+palmomki This is a stupid argument to be had, since I'm not liking to fanboy anyone here. If you're looking into a purely analytical and theoretical level, Adam Neely is miles ahead of these guys. That's kind of a given.
This might seem silly to a lot of people, but as someone who's looking for inspiration to finally start writing music this is some beautiful ass stuff.
I said it on Andrew's vid but I'll say it again; I absolutely love the raw energy that came from most of this being improvised. You just can't write something like that in. So much chemistry and love of the craft
@TootTootMcbumbersnazzle thought that'd be it. Yup. Well I'm pretty basic on my experimental rock knowledge... I know Mr Bungles, though not much, listened to Stag by the Melvins, some Ashley Paul, trout mask replica, and that's pretty much it...
Oh my goodness that was great. xD Either that recording engineer thinks you guys are brilliant, or he thinks you're totally out of your minds for going to the studio to record an album in one day that hadn't even been planned, let alone written. XD
My guess: both. Note, somewhere early on he said something along the lines of, "This _may_ just be the craziest thing I've ever had in here…" By the end, he must have been pretty sure of that - "…and it is glorious…" 😁👍
Rob and Andrew are absolutely amazing but that sound engineer has been absolutely hilarious and super friendly in recent videos. Especially that tapedeck effects video.
Yeah, I'm real keen on seeing him as a recurring cast member of this channel. He seems like a really down-to-earth personality that allows for Rob to be a bit more bouncy in these videos.
@@prometheustv6558 but they didnt write all the songs and parts in a day. they probably practiced and played and came up with parts for weeks or months

Because I noticed they rearranged it for the album, the ten tracks here to the ten tracks on the album: 1 -> 7 ("Things To Do") 2 -> 1 ("Woo!") 3 -> 6 ("Rollerbladin'") 4 -> 8 ("Always") 5 -> 5 ("Don't Go") 6 -> 2 ("Can't Be Stopped") 7 -> 9 ("Spoilers for Playdead's Inside") 8 -> 3 ("Two Friends") 9 -> 4 ("Don't Go To My House") 10 -> 10 ("Possible Band Names")
That engineer clearly didn't really know these guys at this point, but nowadays he's been in a bunch of Robs videos outside this studio he's working in. How did that happen? :D did he just go "yeah I really like these guys, can I apply somewhere?"
I wanted to point out, I’d worked with Rob Ruccia for many years at this point. Just wasn’t making these types of videos where he’d be on screen. So it’s not like we just threw this project at a random engineer. I knew he’d be up for it.
I find myself singing "Rollerblading" almost daily. I don't even think about it, I just find myself singing a melody and I'm like, "What is this melody I'm singing? Oh, it's Rollerblading, amazing."
Rewatching this after "Gotta Record Everything Good" The journey that First of October has gone through is incredible. Andrew and Rob are fantastic, but I've gotta sing the praises of Rob Ruccia, the sound engineer. Even over the course of this first album, he gradually gets more and more on board. Great work!
I'm not joking: this is so good, i've been listening to it daily once since release, the whole 20 min. I don't know whether I appreciate it more because I know you only had 10 hours, but still there are some strong songs in there
wuziq right? In the new one, he just laughed his ass off and had an overall good time, where as this one, it took him a while to figure out oh yeah… they’re just fucking around and having a good time challenging themselves. if you want my honest opinion, I wish more people were like that. I’m not saying be happy and bouncy and have fun all the time, hell no. No human is capable of that. I’m just saying try to have fun with the project you do. You know what I mean? Especially when that’s your livelihood, creating, and producingmusic almost every single day.
Duncan W no joke, if I didn’t bother knowing who these guys were, and I just heard the song out of nowhere, not knowing where it came from, I could believe it.
Rewatching these 5 years later it’s amazing how much the process evolved. I can’t remember what I thought about this years ago… but they have totally evolved as musicians.
With musicians as talented as Rob and Andrew, and Glenn being a UA-camr himself (who knows stuff like this is gold as far as content goes), I think it would have turned out pretty great.
We had 10 hours in studio, two musicians, two guitars, one bass, a whole drumkit with cymbals, cowbells, agogos, woodblocks… Also, a completely unawared sound engineer, a ton of mics, a barrel of coffee, a camera guy, and two friends just for support. Not that we needed all that for the making an album, but once you get locked into a serious studio work, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the vocal lines. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man beyond a mic without any lyrics, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.
Ive come back to watch this video every month for the past 3 years, now in 3 weeks me and my friends are gonna do the same thing at the university studio. wish me luck guys.

It's engineer speak for "I hate you and if you're here for 1 millisecond longer than you paid for I'm gonna murder you"
We had 10 hours in studio, two musicians, two guitars, one bass, a whole drumkit with cymbals, cowbells, agogos, woodblocks… Also, a completely unawared sound engineer, a ton of mics, a barrel of coffee, a camera guy, and two friends just for support.
