- Here is what this car sounds like with basically no exhaust
As you guys may have seen my previous video fo the 540i with the straight pipe exhaust it was a bit to loud so I have been driving around with the stock exhaust with muffler delete and it was quiet. I am getting a new setup so had to take the exhaust off while it was being worked on.

Engine light is on because some exhaust sensors are missing.

CEL is from the O2 sensors detecting out of parameters emissions from the cataltyic converter which doesn't exist anymore.
no, deleted cats wont light up cel. I have the same car I know. it's probably because of smth more serious.
Lemme help ya out its the lambda sensor. Noone would love his car and drive it with CEL on. I drive an straightpiped E92 my CEL is on. 1st time when i noticed called my best friend(and mechanic) tested it and it was as stated above. Been driving it for 1 month with CEL on cuz in waiting for a quality part not cheap turkish chinese fake ones. If the car had other issues CEL related i would never ever drive it until fixed. Find a diff from an automatic they have a lot shorter gears you have to use your manual input flange from your current diff though ,get poly diff bushings , go with a sprung pucked clutch set up put some decent coilovers on it an call it a day ! I love my 5 series
Did something similar on my 97 540i just to try...regretted it later because sounded quite obnoxious even though fun! Put in a magnaflow performance muffler and couldn’t have been happier since
I went with a vibrant resonator much better sound check out the newer videos
I think this car can much better I also have a good one, same model. I suggest to you firstly check your air hoses

I bought one of these bad boys last month because of this video. I’m taking it to the exhaust shop sometime soon after I fix the heater control valve.
The heater control was the first thing that went out for me lol

Making a jump from 80 horses to 150 is very noticeable 300 horses and a good driver is a win. The sounds are orgasmic gotta love love it.
I think it should be around 280hp stock and I doubt this is even close to that. It sounded like he floored it and my previous 2003 120hp peugeot accelerated about as fast as his and it's nowhere close to my 360hp mercedes even though it should be less than 100hp short.

Its slow because something is wrong with the engine, thats why the engine light was on

I drove my 2000 E39 540iA MSport from New York To Atlanta, only 2 gas fill ups. Was doing 130+ mph most of the way. I love this car. A maintained 540i msport can do 174mph stock.
How much did you spend on maintenance like oil change and brakes etc…

All I have is my resonator on my 540i and it's almost too loud. I'm planning on putting some more cats on there and at least a muffler.

Victor Menchaca He chopped the resonators and mufflers but left the cats.

People calling this the 540i slow ... pshh haha so that’s why my old e39 took those “fast” boosted Honda’s, gti, Audi’s, hell even a frkn “bolt on 400whp SI” 😂 the e39 is not slow for what it is. The automatics might be slow but I’m a little cocky, go up against a 6speed you’ll see the difference 🤭

Does the 540i have a sort of y pipe 3 muffler setup stock? I have a 2001 X5 4.4i v8 (very similar motor) and I’m looking into exhaust setups for it but I don’t want anything ridiculously loud, just a little bit more noticeable than the stock exhaust

I find its too Loud the rear muffler must be take in ! I drive an Mercedes W124 E320 estate With An 6.2L V8 from an W212 E63 AMG inkluded the 7 G tronic + and it works like an factory car with the 525 HP and 800nm of torque

Not if you go over the ECU and tell it to stop worrying 😃
Not if you use an 02 spacer or spark plug fouler to trick the ecu into thinking your cat still exists
i have a 2000 540i sport, ive kept the inerior all original with oem phone and nav tv.ive got dinan cold air and chip.80k.it is very fast if you keep it tached up.with good tires and brakes my car can be very luxury or race oriented.the v8 purrs and the 6 spd is fun.

Not in an 328i bud Gonna cost $$$ + ur looking @ Lots of modifications Bro espically in that 328i. If it was a 5 series it would’ve been better. What most ppl do now a days is get a 540i and swap it wit the older m5 engines And try to make it a newer m5. But yeah defiantly do not do that To the 328 espically with the 99 it won’t even Fit that much most likely gonna need a custom hood

Reverse you can get a 5series around that year for about £4000. That’s what I’ve seen anyway
But you shouldnt buy so cheap, spend more money on it, when you want to have a really good one
I drove a 540 with no emissions on it, that thing was no where near slow, stupid low end torque, it’s a freight train.

Honestly, something is wrong with the guys in the video. My old failing 80's Turbo Supra that weighs the same and only at around 280hp moves way quicker.

I also have a straight,. But odometer has to fall much faster: how about your engine oil, coolant system, all filters also have to include. Check them regularly. But firstly you have to check your engine, if that symbol appears its not good

3800lb car with the 320hp is not bad compared to the 4200lb challenger, a true e39 with the s62 has 400hp an is quite quick for being a 98-03.
is speed even a concern? no, unless you're racing. if you dont have at least 450hp in your car than just stay quiet
