How to make your own stamping tool | stamp positioner used with Altenew Stamps and Inks

- A quick video to show how I made an inexpensive stamping tool using a DVD/Stamp Storage case. Please check out some of the other hinged stamping tools - they are amazing and much better quality. This little tool is cheap in quality and in cost and is limited in some functionality, but might work for you until you can get another one. I have a very bad tremor that is usually kept under control with a neurostimulator that is implanted in my brain. Well, the batteries have recently died and the tremor is 'out of control'. Just typing this is quite a challenge (My neurologist is in Houston and I am in Georgia not to mention no insurance). My point? I thought I was going to have to quit stamping...I just cannot afford the MISTI, but your less expensive version is the answer! Thank you!!!

I made myself one over a year ago, out of a clear ring display case. I used the foam pad that you push the rings into, as the base. It works fine. It's good to see people making their own craft aids, instead of buying everything. Great video 😊
if you were near me I would give you a hug right now I am so happy that you posted this I just got into this whole card making world and there was no way I was going to spend that much money on one of those tools when I could buy pretty stamps instead

I made one of these and I don't know how I lived without one!! It's fantastic for assembly line-ing cards! I've put two foam sheets in mine for extra cushy stamping, got those at the dollar tree store. hobby lobby has the really strong magnets too- but then so does ebay. I just love this tool!! Thanks for showing us how to have one without spending tons of money!!

I made one according to your guidelines, works PERFECTLY all the time, no matter what! No magnets needed, maybe sometimes a small piece of Post-It Tape to hold paper in place. It's a great asset in stamping, especially when stamping onto watercolor paper when repeated stamping is needed to really make in image crisp. Thank you! And I didn't spend between 40 - 100 dollars to have a stamping positioner!
I like to use a low tack tape as well sometimes. The perfect positioner won't last forever but can be replaced if needed or you can just use a low tack tape like micropore paper tape or washi tape rubbed on your hand or the post it tape as you mention. Thanks for sharing your tip!
As I somewhat expected, my homemade positioner finally broke...the polystyrene could only take so much pressure. Put a little clear packaging tape over the crack. Onward...until something else happens to it!
Your videos are really great quality. Enjoyed it a lot. Thank you. It saddens me that none of the "big" stamping channels do videos like this. It's so commercial and sponsored, which is cool, but to a point. Thanks for this video.
If you use the thinner fun foam, you'll have enough room to add a photo magnet to help with holding your cardstock in place while stamping.
You can also make this with clear acrylic sheets from a hardware store and get acrylic hinges. Stick white foam on the back or rubber washers to prevent sliding. You can stick the Little B grid on or draw your own. I found the sheets 8x10. You can glue on rulers or write in inches.

Great idea. You should put together a kit with the Stamp storage case, fun foam, a few sheets of grid paper and Little B positioner and sell it as a set for one price. Thank you for sharing. God bless, Peggy

Hi Susan! You can get them at our store (use the link in the video description - or visit our website and do a search for Little B Perfect positioner) you may be able to get them other placed as well.
Boy am I behind! I found your video, just got my supplies, except the grid, am going to assemble tonight. This is perfect for the Altenew stamps. TY for sharing because I personally can't afford the Misti.
I made one similar to this but I used a softer plastic dvd case. It works perfectly.

I ordered the foam sheet, the little B, and the storage case. It came in 3 days. It only took me 5 minutes to put it together. So easy! Can't wait to try it!

I have watched a lot of faux Misti Tools and this is the BEST BY FAR! I have everything (even the Little B Perfect Positioner) now I just gotta find it..lol but THANK YOU SO much for showing us this and using the Alt T new stamps with it.. I have a set of those stamps and I am having one heck of a time lining them up..Now, I know how..Got to buy that pretty ink too..Thanks again. I SUBSCRIBED and THUMBS UP!
I ordered the supplies to make me a couple and I have to say it works really good. I have a hard time stamping background stamps and used it today to make a few cards and it was awesome because I could make it darlker or as light as I wanted and it was all the same. No sploches any where. I was very happy with the outcome. It beats spending 50 to 80 dollars on something that I can make myself. If you make this and your grid doesn't hold your paper down anymore, you can use Stencil Removable spray to keep your matt sticky. Thank you for this great video. I came across it while browing in the online store.
Ordered from Hallmark Scrapbook, received in record time, put together in a few minutes, and it works like a CHARM! yes, I would love to have the "real deal", but it's going to be a while to save up for it. this will also help to determine would I really USE it enough to justify the expense. Thank you so much for your great and very helpful video. I was just thinking of doing something like this myself, after seeing the Misti, but wasn't sure of exactly how to do it. I may eventually get a Misti, or a Mini Misti. But the price is a bit steep for me to spend $40 - $60 on just one tool right now....worth it, though it may be because of the stronger construction. I actually recently purchased a Little B and even have some fun foam, so all I need is the DVD case. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks again.

This is great! I just threw a bunch of those polystyrene DVD cases into the waste basket in my craft room....better go take a few back out! Recycling the others. They are super, super cheap. Polystyrene used for acrylic stamps ruins them over time, so I switched to polypropylene cases. Having said all that, I still like using my acrylic blocks! Thanks for the tute!

This is fantastic! I'm currently just learning about the clear stamps and how to make my own greeting cards using them and I don't feel comfortable using the acrylic blocks on their own, I'd rather have a grid and a solid, hinged tool to help me. I checked my local craft stores and nobody has anything like this so I'm glad I can try to make my own and save money too. :) Thank you so much for the video!!

As crafters we ALL make DIY projects to help us with our craft n wat not. This kady should be quite flattered that people love her product that much they want to have one that's similar tgat 1/4of the price.. or maybe not charge an arm and a leg for hers so all crafters can afford it..as for the "lawyers" tgey have nothing on you so dong be bullied into taking Your creation down..

This was such a great idea that I went right out and bought the CD cases. I did the same, with a couple tweaks. I cut two strips and aligned them along the left and bottom sides to create a frame for placing my paper. That way I didn't need the grid paper, I just aligned the paper in the corner. (Similar idea to the Stamp A Ma Jig - butt the paper into the corner) It's also quicker when stamping multiples. I liked the idea of the "gridded lid". So I took graph paper and scanned it, then I printed it on clear sheets and attached that to the lid. The only drawback to this home made is the smaller size, but it works like a charm.

I'm living in France. As the pink thing isn't sold wholesale and as MySweetPetunia sends from the USA, buying this stamp positioner from whatever part of the world would double or tripple its cost due to shipping costs and other compagnies'profit margin. I could definetely never afford me to spend so much money on a stamp positionner even if it was the smartest stamp positioner ever.

Ok, this gets even better because I was able to stamp once with 2 colors on the stamp and then wiping the excess off and using Versamark and emboss using a clear embossing powder over that. Looks fantastic! =)

This is a geat idea, I've seen many, by far the easiest one to make! I hate when my whole card is perfect, and I stamp the sentiment last and it doesn't stamp fully. so when I try to "fix" it and it double stamps, my card is ruined! tfs!!

I have to admit it looks fantastic..... love the ink and the stamp set!
Karen Menard Altenew is an awesome company with wonderful products. Like I said in the video the inks are my favorite and stamp a solid image very nicely even with new clear stamps. At least the ones I have used them with. Some of the other inks struggle with a new solid image clear stamp. Most work well with a stamp that has been well used or conditioned.
This is fantastic. It is so simple and we have all the goods at home. Great show.

Thank you for showing how to make this stamping tool, we can't seem to purchase the Little B Perfect positoner here in Nelson, NZ so we are using graph sheets instead. I hope it will do the same as the Little B sheet. Cost approx. $6, better that paying $50- $125 for the same thing. Thank you once again.

+Ideas2come Hi Heather.- I'm so glad you like this idea. If you think this tool is something you'll use a lot I would encourage you to get one that you were saving up for. The one I show here, like I mentioned, is inexpensive and not a very high quality item.

I bought the MISTI but this is brilliant!! What a great idea if you want a cheaper option to have similar functionality of stamping tools like this.
I just read the comments about "the other product" If people can spend the money they will buy the real thing. This like with many other products offer us an option to do it yourself. The products your using are available for other uses as the CD cases are. Who says you can't repurpose them. We all do that with crafting many times....when you don't have name brand stamp cleaner you make your own... The real thing is a GREAT invention she has done a wonderful thing and will make lots of money. I don't think her sales will stall because SOME people are repurposing a CD case!! Cathy
Cathy Lee No her sales will fall because her customer service is not consistent.She honors some warranties and others she accuses the buyer of bad cleaning agent or misuse.Also her scouring the internet for DIY tools and then ranting and raving about sicking her lawyer on those people for infringement when she has ZERO patents makes her sound rather whacky.Her tool is so close to the Letter Press I would be shocked if she ever did get a patent.She will be paying the big bucks for an investigation to patent only to come up with an empty wallet.She should sell the idea to a big box company and take a cut of each one sold(profit in perpetuity)or hire someone to deal with the bad product..someone with people skills..that is what is lacking now.

As long as you are making it for yourself & not mass producing it & selling it with the same name or similar name there's nothing she can do about it. Every store carries generic products---these are just the ones we make ourselves. I agree the price it too steep unless you are making hundreds of cards or projects. I can buy a ton of fun foam & empty DVD cases for $60!!!
