It is easier if you put the foam type onto some wax paper to cut up the middle of it to make smaller strips. Xx

Wendy, next time you need to cut foam tape, place a piece of parchment paper on the sticky side, then cut to your hearts content,. you won't end up with sticky scissors and the foam tape won't stick to the scissors either.

I have multiple rolls of the Altenew sticky back foam tape and quickly learned to ditch the little, skinny scissors. I use the full length Tim Holtz scissors by Tonic or the smaller, lighter non-stick scissors from Simon Says Stamps. Both work well to cut long strips from the adhesive foam without the tangling and curling. They are my go-to scissors for sticky foam tape.

Try putting the double sided sticky foam tape onto baking/parchment paper, then it won't stick to your scissors. Kristina Warner often doubles the tape up on itself and then cuts it. Great tips and cards. 👏😊💕

Great cards! When the MISTI first came out Jennifer McGuire showed how to use it to line up your panels to the card base. It was really a game changer for me. For anything sticky, I use the Teflon coated scissors. I believe I bought mine years ago from Target when they had more craft items then they do now. They are made by EK Success but I’m sure other manufacturers have then as well.

Glad you learned about aligning your card panels in your stamp positioned, Wendy. It’s helped me over the years with my cards, for sure. I’m not sure I shared this tip on my channel, but maybe this will help you and your subscribers: you can also make a ‘sandwich’ of your die cuts between two pieces of acetate. This way, you can add your sequins or mini gem stone embellishments right side up, and nothing will fall through. So, die cut one piece of acetate and adhere to the back of your die cut (card stock piece). turn the die cut face up, add sequins or gems, then add the second piece of acetate on top followed by one final paper die cut. It is a slight extra step, but I like to see the shaker bits as from the front. So, now, you can place the shaker portion to your card and still use the corner of your stamping platform (or scoring tool, if you don’t have a stamp positioner). I hope this makes sense. 😅

Love your tips about the Misti and love the cards you made. I love black, white with touches of red. For some reason, in my later years, I began to love red... I had a nice, little Toyota Highlander in Salsa Pearl and I also got a new mixer in Candy Apple Red, then I dressed up an already-made black & white card with some added, lovely red. I wish I had been able to get several more sets of cards with that one card in it. I want to make some black & white Christmas cards this year, with touches of Christmas red and maybe a few touches of Christmas green, or a bit darker green, here and there on the stamped image. I've seen a few videos where Misti has a sticky mat to use instead of magnets, to help place things where you want them without mis-placing them. I love all sorts of tips on how-tos. Thanks for offering this one. Love this sort of thing. 🥰❣❣

Yes, this is a great trick. Another thing that Kristina does is fold the foam tape over onto itself to make it double the thickness for shaker cards. Then, it’s not sticky except on the edge and she trims it into thin strips.

  • @mumstheword8851

TIP: keep the release paper from double sided adhesive sheets (especially if they're large pieces) or take baking paper/parchment and fill it with strips of your sticky double sided foam tape. The foam cuts a treat without goo on your scissors!! 👏👏😄 (I got so sick of having to clean mine with sticker remover) If you don't stick them too close together you can fold a whole sheet for storing. Even sticking a release strip from a piece of foam tape and sticking it on the back of the next piece on the roll helps. I hope my explanation makes sense. 😅 Good luck👍 I just made a shaker card with all of the frustration you mentioned. I was thinking: I need to ask hubby to make me a lightbox. Your tip with the misti is genius 👏👏 for next time. 😊

    • @brrjohnson8131
      @brrjohnson8131 10 місяців тому

I do something similar. I save the release paper from my Lidocaine patch or big xyron & put the sticky tape onto the plastic release paper then I place it on my cutting mat, halfway under the full length ×5" ruler & under a second ruler for stability & make long slices using my snap off razor blade. I then have long, skinny strips of tape I keep in a tray with my foam dots.

Break up your time where your hands hurt with planning, and/or have a friend help you with die cutting etc. Maybe use kits with already cut out ephemera, morph your style into what works for your body. I have a tip for cutting sticky items like the foam tape. Lay it down on a piece of wax paper or baking parchment. Both of those are non-stick. Cut your tape, then peel off the wax paper/parchment backing. Ta-da. I have even used this trick to cut tiny strips of duct tape.
**A Jennifer McGuire tip for making shaker cards with fine line dies like the window is to not use foam take at all. Instead, cut the die out several times and glue it into a stack that's deep enough to hold your shaker bits. Add said shaker bits and glue the layer with the acetate on top.

Beautiful, beautiful cards! Thank you for the tips - haven’t made a shaker card yet so what a great tip to learn now! I’m definitely glad I bought my Misti & just recently the Misti sticky mats - haven’t done alot of stamping yet but I wouldn’t be at all if I hadn’t bought my Misti - agree re: those still not yet sure about getting one that it’s a great investment & now even more so with your tips, Wendy! If there’s a way to die cut from the front of a card & place the stamp on the inside that would be cool too! I don’t have a dies/machine but I have a Cricut, so I will try that way.

    Beautiful cards--love the 2nd one.
2 directions you could go with a similar idea. 1) Stamp the sentiment (or whatever you want in the hole) on the card base. Then you aren't "wasting" a whole piece of cardstock.
    2) add a few sheets of (mistakes) cardstock in between the layers instead of foam tape. Cheaper and sturdier.
    Enjoyed your presentation and subscribed.

Great video! I usually wipe my Scissors with a wet wipe before I cut foam tape - so that then the foam tape doesn't stick to the Scissors. 😊

I am following. I really like these two cards and your tips. I know you know by now that the 49ers did not win the Super Bowl this year. I told my husband that at least now we would not have crazy people doing crazy things. We had a few firecrackers and everyone went to bed. That made the loss not so painful.

Thanks for the tip. I hate making shaker cards for that reason. Beautiful card 🩷

Shaker cards are one of my favs but I admit it was one of the reasons I would hesitate making them. Not now!

Loved watching your video. you gave me an idea for a card using my Cricut that I will have to try and figure out lol. my question is about the sticky mat you were using at the beginning when you were inking the flower pieces. I can't find a link or mention of it in the supply list. can you tell me what it is? im sick of my fingers getting inked up !!

Hi, game changer for me was a trick that I saw Nina Marie use. She put her foam tape on strips of wax paper (I used parchment paper) and then scissors will cut it like butter! I have Altenew foam tape and love it. This also makes it easier to use rather than cutting from a large roll. Hope this helps.

    Hi Wendy,
I saw you were having problems with cutting the foam tape. I used to also. Below are the Scissors I bought. They are awesome they don't stick to anything. I have been using them for quite some time.
Fiskars Everyday Softgrip Non-stick Titanium Scissors (8")

I have teflon coated scissors, I think they are honey bee brand (purchased YEARS ago). Using those to cut anything sticky works like a charm! definitely a great investment.
