I made my own stamp positioner. Using a slim A4 plastic case, inserted foam sheet cut to size. Added a graph grid which I laminated to enable cleaning. It works really well and for very little cost. One day I will purchase a Misti but will need to justify the cost.

Wow thanks for the idea. You said A4 and immediately I thought of a CD case. I used an older CD case as it is a little thicker than the newer ones, because i needed something to hold the stamps i have that are bigger than the stamp holders i purchased. So far so good. Thanks for the idea.

I thought about the stamp wheel but I'm not sure how my arthritic hands/wrists would like -- or probably not like!- the flipping motion. I'd likely drop it on my project! But the misti is my absolute must crafting tool; it's the only reason I was able to come back to stamping at all. Lovely cards 😊

Your granny quilt is beyond adorable! (And you have such patience.)
I have a bunch of stamp positions too and have given away some. Tool girls/women rule! One I have passed on is the Altenew wheel. Not into using both hands to lift it up and down 30 million times. (I do love the mini Gina K wreath builder.)
But I also gave away the Stencil 360 kit and bunches of stencils although it’s a remarkably cool tool. I wasn’t using it and someone wanted one. Better to rehome than ignore.

Thank you for this video. I'm a newbie at cardmaking and didn't want to go too expensive until I was sure I enjoyed it. MISTI was not my 1st choice of stamping platform.
First i bought a Friskers stamping tool, which was a waste of money and I hated it, then I bought a Yescutting stamp platform for 1/2 the cost of the MISTII. I has serviced me fantastically. Now I'm ready to upgrade. This hobby can get extremely expensive, especially when you don't know what you REALLY need to begin slowly then build up. I wish I had seen this video back in June. Again, thank you!

I agree with some of the comments that MISTI is too expensive & it's sad they are so aggressive in suing other companies. I still like it for the raised corners that contain cardstock and the foam base pad. Stampwheel seems to allow for smudging if I don't lift or drop the wheel plate evenly. Sizzle reminds me of the Tim Holtz product, which I have and use with a foam pad & clear grid sheet to get good results.

    • @ardyth
      @ardyth  11 місяців тому +2

I think that every company has the right to protect their patent and charge what they think their product is worth. If people don't buy it because of the price (or any reason), then that company will have to change their strategy. I just wish that we didn't have to argue about it here. I agree with you that the Sizzix tool is similar to the Tim Holtz platforms, while being much bigger. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @ChrisAndCats

@@ardyth I love my time holtz one. I have that and the original misti. I use the tim holtz one bigger pieces as it doesn't have that raised edge on 2 sides but you do still have the corner. I like that the door comes off and that the hinge is so strong. I use either depending on whether the card will overhang or not and if I want the door off which I find helps with precision when colouring a stamp with markers rather than using an ink pad.

@@ardythTrue...consumers biggest power comes from buying or not buying a product or service. At the same time, I don't know that expressing concerns or opinions about a company is neccesarily arguing, though. It's just discussion about a topic related to the content of the video. I do feel badly that the discussion doesn't seem to sit well with you, though. It probably is a reflection of your nature, which seems to be very kind and makes sense why it would bother you. I think this particular thing probably generates SO MUCH discussion because it is an anomaly in this industry/community. All the other companies and creators I've seen are all so supportive of each other. The fact that this one isn't that way REALLY stands out. I was floored when I first heard about it when researching 2 or 3 years ago which platform to get. I didn't believe what I was reading in comments because I'd never come across such a thing in this community before. I then did my own research on it and made my own decision about buying or not buying the product. I wonder (just came to me) if it also might have something to do with anonymity? We all know, for example, who Tim is - so much so I don't even have to say his last name 😁 - because he's visible. People feel like they know him and support him and his products. But with MSP, I have no idea who the face of that company is or the story or struggle or whatever. It's harder to empathize with a Corporation (capital intended) than with an individual so for folks who get heated or passionate about it that might be part of the reason maybe? And, of course, that might not have anything to do with it at all! 😂 In any event, your video is great. You explain them all very well and the demonstrations are, as always, super helpful. I really appreciate the time you put into all your videos, Ardyth - thank you!

@@lucyc Thanks for taking the time to write this kind and thoughtful comment. Since posting this video, and removing some comments, and upsetting some viewers (and losing subscribers), I have been thinking about this a lot, and wondering how (or if) I should be moderating comments on my channel. I believe people have the right to their opinion, and I believe that their feelings about and experiences with certain companies are valid. I am just not convinced that this is the best forum for those kinds of comments that can't help improve the situation in any way. They are rarely framed as just 'passing on helpful information', and are often very hurtful and unkind. I don't want that here. As you say, fortunately, this situation is a bit of an anomaly. @@ardyth It is definitely unfortunate when people can't frame their thoughts and opinions as constructive dialogue. I have a misti and also a Tim Holtz one. The thing I like about the tim holtz one is that the door comes off like the sizzix you have there and the hinge has a metal bar so its really robust. It has 2 sides that don't have raised edges but you do still have the corner to easily line up so you can stamp on 8x8 cards without risking creasing the card if it overhangs which could happen if I used the misti on bigger pieces. Between the two I find i have the best of both worlds but I do like the look of the stamp wheel.

If I were starting fresh, I would buy the Stamp and Stencil Tool (you need to buy that if you don't already have it, for the Stamp and Spin to work) and Stamp and Spin tool, and I would use it as both a positioner and spin tool. Right now, I'm using the stamp and spin tool (with the stamp and stencil base) for everything and I'm loving it. I did have that one for a while, and I remember that about that tool. Definitely I have not had that issue with my 4 tools. I think the Sizzix one (with the moveable door) would be the one to most likely have a similar issue, but because of the size of that door, I rarely use it to stamp sentiments. Thanks for watching!

I don't understand why no one talks about the Stampin' Up positioner. It's by far the best one I've ever used. Is it because it's sold through demonstrators? If so, that's a stupid reason to not include it in your comparison. You're not doing a real service to your viewers by leaving this out - but you're not the only one that ignores this amazing platform. EDIT - I'm NOT a demonstrator and I got it online used.

Maybe she just doesn't have it.

Oh, no! This is not just directed at Ardyth - I love her. It's just that I NEVER see these comparison videos using the one I have.

maybe because it is no longer available to purchase - new that is. Stampin Up was forced to cease selling it because MSP sued them.

@@pattyh2410 I didn't know that, but I don't think it's the reason as I've been making cards for years and could have purchased it online at the time. I've never seen any card maker use it unless they were demonstrators. I just find that strange. I actually also have a Misti but don't use it. Must be a reason

LOL! I don't have a Stamparatus, but I know that there is a strong, loyal following for it (kinda makes me wish I had purchased it while it was available!) It had the two-door system, right? I bet that allows for some really cool techniques. I think the reason you will see only demonstrators using it is because that's how they make money (and at least at one point, they weren't allowed to use nonSU! stuff). And non-demos don't tend to use it because they can't make money on it. If I ever find one, I'll try it out and post an update to this video. Thanks for all the feedback and for watching!

I wonder how long will the Sizzix tool will be available. MSP will probably go after them like they have others that have, correction:HAD, a hinged stamp posititioner. Thanks.

Sizzix tool as well as Stampin' Up Stamparatus do have hinges, but they are different. They are not fixed hinges. They are one step further.

@@turkey1528 Sorry, my point is that the Stamparatus is no longer available to purchase because MSP sued them for copyright - hinged stamp positioner. Even though it is vastly different the MSP tool. Again, wondering how long before MSP goes after Sizzix and forces them to cease selling them. Note how many other hinged stamp positioners are no longer available - Tim Holtz, WR Memory keepers, etc.
