I hope we’ll have a new episode where Luke sets laptimes with all three of these 😂
We could watch Moog and Marty chase those times for a few months and see how many mods are needed to reach them 😅
I skipped to the end hoping to find just that.
@@matpolilegend Yeah, I was kinda hoping the same. I would love to see Luke set some times just to show how far off the pace Marty and Moog are.
I think that might require an awful lot of mods to match a pro driver in a stock car even on stock tyres.... If you sent him out on PS5s with a lightly modded car no normal human would get close...
@@neilbathe7752 but if all 3 were on the same tires, all with some good mods, it would be neat to see what a top tier driver could get out of each of them, especially on a tight technical track like that
Yeah click baited for sure.
Would have liked to see timed laps from all 3 and the power/weight too. Maybe they will do that ! Actually go further ! add in all the MCM cars (that they still have) and timed laps from pro and MCM drivers too in an hour long special !
Upvote people!
I don't think the power values are comparable which is why they didn't do that. Plus with the mods it's not a fair comparison. But would still be interesting
Thanks for the upvotes and im sure you have noticed in the latest pugbro v swift battle they did both power, weight and laptimes! Absolute legends!
duuuuuude! This guy would fit so nicely as a third co-host! The chemistry and banter just top notch. I have been here from day one. Love you all. Thank you for the entertainment Marty and Moog
Yeah he seems like a nice dude I'd love to see him more, maybe not as a permanent host, but when they'll make other videos on track/ comparing cars it would be pleasant to see him again
I totally agree with your comment mate✌️
agreed !!
He could be the MCM pseudo-stig, "psuedo" because he has a face and a voice 😂
They won't, they won't mix up anything. Stagnation
Loving the heeltoe emphasis. Been saying Marty and Moog gotta start doing that.
It was genuinely painful watching them try to control a snappy little car like the Elise without Heel/Toe, its near impossible to gear that thing into a corner without snap oversteer without it!!
Agreed. I love Marty and Moog but seriously, they gotta start learning that more
I need to learn it too. I want a sim rig to practice.
It's a very tough skill, kinda reminds me of when I first started learning manual... only more risky. My car probably doesn't help with it's setup...
@@PigeonLaughter01 You don't need a sim rig, just practice every day when you drive, braking to a stop, flip your heel over to touch the accelerator, and slowly progress to learning to modulate throttle with heel.
If I ever get bored with all my old nuggets, I’d go for the GR I guess. Great in-depth explanations on how to drive differently based on the drivetrain.
yeah from someone who professionally knows how to get the best of each platform, his insight was extremely good. im happy that i used a lot of his technique in my fwd golf track time at the Nurburgring when i used to live near there. at least i did THAT right! haha
I bought an 86 in the UK last year and it's hands down one of the best value for money for the smiles you get from it!!
Maybe the gr Yaris because it's an awesome nugget out of the factory and a great step forward in the modern world of affordable track car.
60k AUD is not affordable lmao
@@Average.1JZ.Enjoyer fair one Id rather have that money in a property then in a car that could leave you stranded somewhere
£30,000-£35,000 not sure i would say that's affordable, guess it all depends on your salary
@@Average.1JZ.Enjoyer agreed, it is a lot to fork out, but they hold their resale value pretty well. Also, the amount of money you spend on buying a car, fixing it etc etc can start to add up.
I completely appreciate that is half of the appeal with these cars for a lot of people, but I don't have the tools or experience to do this stuff myself, and to have something that is high tech, high performance and high fun in a turn key package, for me, is worth the premium.
I have a $20k residual on my car, that that is a problem to be solved in 3 years :D
That was nice, but I was actually hoping for a track time battle, too. Of course each having a proper alignment and the same tires to make it as comparable as possible would be needed (the 2 things almost EVERY track battle gets wrong).
Yes! Don't put a car with all season against one with summer or 200 tw track tires.
Pick one and go with it.
I'm stuck on pilot sport all seasons for my daily now.
@@jameshaulenbeek5931Are the all season PS good? I was considering them for when I finally get a GR Corolla to replace the summer PS4 it comes with since it gets cold where I am for like 8 months out of the year
@@Roomsaver they're great tires, definitely worth it
Heel and toe is so much fun. First mod i did to my swift sport was move the throttle pedal towards me a bit to properly heel and toe in the French back roads. So much fun
I use the heel on the brake and toes on the accelerator, but unfortunately they're making our road less and less fun every day :(
@@CyberChrist I do the opposite, toe on the brake and blip the throttle with my heel / side of my foot. Interesting that there's different ways!
@@jama211 That's the orthodox way ^^ I use mine because my heel wasn't precise enough to get the revs needed, as the engine's a bit sluggish at low revs, as when initiating the blip, but then rages towards the limiter.
@@jama211 i keep my toe on the brake and use my ball or side of the foot to do it, i know some just fully use the side and not the ball. I think it depends on the car if the pedals are close enough
I learned to do it in my MX5 where the pedals were absolutely perfectly placed for it, but had to fit a custom made extended accelerator to my Clio as the pedals were ever so slightly too far apart to do it comfortably. As they stated in the video it's incredibly useful on track, but it also makes every trip to the shops feel like a rally stage 👌
I’d love a GR Yaris. It ticks so many boxes (not the one for moving furniture).
And.. it's 50k.
That can also be a positive, as none of your mates will ask you to move anything.
Depends on how big is the furniture. Hatchbacks are surprisingly spacious after folding down the second row seats.
Get a trailer, sorted.
@@tkangwei i hauled a 3-person sofa with fold out bed in it in my mk2 golf once, hanging out the back a bit of course, but it made it! 2 years ago i hauled a 1200 pound generator/welder 300 miles when Omaha had a massive power outage for a week after massive storms and 100mph winds. (3 people and an engine hoist to put it in!) hatchbacks, and by literal "extension" estates/wagons, are the BEST form of a non-pickup/ute vehicle. more use, more space, better aerodynamics (proven) than sedan/coupes.
Was good to see luke back in the videos! Would be sick to get some more track focused tutorial style videos in the future. He explains things really well
I started off with a CRX-Si. Ground Control coilover sleeves on Tokico HD shocks. Awesome lift off throttle oversteer. Then bought a WRX. Fixed the underster with coilovers and best mod a STi trans. Now have a Forester with just about every STi aftermarket suspension piece. I live in the United States and would have definitely bought a GR Yaris if they had come here.
Great video. Luke is a great presenter.
I would have loved to have seen a hot lap for all of these cars, but that outro segment was so wholesome. I just hope we see more of the man (and his car)
How do you guys out to yourself every single time I watch an episode? You guys are just the best!
I agree with Luke. The street cred VW will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first video I watched from you. I remember being absolutely hooked and binging the rest of your videos in my dorm house super late at night. Thanks for all the amazing memories.
When Moog tried to explain why does he like the BRZ most out of these I completely get him
Even tho the Yaris is awesome and unique, the acessible RWD JDM is what got a lot of us here, and these days a lot of it is gone from showrooms except the 86 and MX-5
I wanted to hear a little more about the torque feel "issue" of the Yaris, since that convo was cut short during the ride along
Who cares
@@mikenolzie7746 people that own one
Perhaps boost limiting from factory?
I don't have any issues on mine.
Might be a grass is greener, since I own an 86 but not a GR Yaris, but I do agree with Luke's lineup. The 86 is sick and I have no regrets buying mine, but the Yaris is *super* sick.
RWD is just so much fun, my heart aligns with the BRZ. Even though the other cars here are awesome in their own right
it was worth watching this video to see the grin on moogs face with the lift-off oversteer demo :)
Lovely explanations of how the cars handle differently and why.
It was hilarious watching you all pass that fly to each other in the last few minutes.
I’ve been racing since age 19 in 1986. The hardest transition has from the old school thinking of braking in a strange line, downshifting, turning in with a constant stabilizing throttle and then accelerating from the apex to what Luke described, carrying the braking to the apex, then accelerating. You carry way more corner entry speed which is hard but oh boy is it fast. Great tips for new and old drivers!
Steering wheel, 3 pedals, engine at front, drive at the rear... all you need for a world of fun!
Another piece of magnificense, you boys nailed it again, as ever.
The chemistry between you and your mates seems magical and all-inspiring.
Thank you 🙏
BRZ, still the best looking car around.
Good to see Luke back, he's a great addition to the channel.
Great video. Enjoy you taking the time to help people with track tips. Only wish would have been timed laps for each. My vote is for the Subaru. Best channel on UA-cam. Thanks
After last video, I appreciate this video so much more, its crazy the amount of work you guys do!
The real story of MCM... is friendship
cracking episode - luke comes across a top pro and bloke too
There’s something special about putting your foot down and kicking out the back end of a rwd but awd Subaru always has a soft spot in my heart just how well it handles and the fun of just hammering it thought corners
Fiat 128! Luke King just became my favourite MCM guest.
Im gonna say it. There hasnt ever been a bad episode, but i feel like the level of quality is somehow always getting better. Cars too:)
3 top blokes. Excellent episode as always.
I love my mk7 GTI. Handles great for spirited driving, practical, and quite a bit of power with just a flash tune. The only car I'd replace it with is a MK8 R due to the new rear diff and new continental turbo which is a big better than the outgoing IS38.
Where's the hot lap? Hope you guys will do another video with Luke or another pro driver driving these cars around Luddenham setting a hot lap.
This was so amazing to watch. Here in the USA we don't get the Yaris, but the Corolla Hatchback GR. Problem is, out of the 3 cars here (and Corolla GR in the USA) the only "affordable" cars new or used would be the BRZ or the GTI. Now, obviously these 2 cars are TOTALLY different. Yet both very capable. If you could only have one car, Dollar per Dollar performance, Practicality of having friends, family, and all that into consideration? The GTI is just the best bang for the buck "in the real" world. In the GTI you can move your furniture one weekend, take your wife and 2 kids to Church on Sunday, and Go to the track afterwards, all in one car. None of the others here can do that. Here in the USA yes the Corolla GR can but at a MUCH higher price point. Even then, the GTI seems to have more usable space, better ride and better fuel economy overall. All the cars here are amazing, and in their each unique way are masters of what they were designed to do. Have Fun. Cheers from California USA👍👍
I would love to see how you guys would view the i30 N sedan/Elantra N compared to these cars on the track.
I liked that episode a lot more than I thought I would've after reading the Title. Thanks guys & Thanks Luke King!
Really enjoy your videos guys👌, I just wish I’d found the channel sooner! I missed a whole DECADE!☹️
Better late than never my friend 👍
Time for an MCM marathon!!!
@@n7narcosis I think you could be right, but with nearly 700 videos I may be gone some time! 😬
@@cfbm125 exactly, doesn't that sound glorious!?
Whelp... Carlos' plans are set for the next few months.
Solid comparison here, thank you for great content.
Such a smart racer he is....its not like me who smashes the gas and hold on....Luke is awesome....super cheap has a great race driver to represent there company
I love how much of a proud dad Marty is of his Yaris.
I am fortunate enough to own one, and it is hands down the best car I have ever owned, and I would literally deliver pizzas just so I could drive it.
The 40L fuel tank is small, but it will take me 540kms when driving to Qld given the 6 speed, but also it can be a thirsty little thing when you step on the angry pedal.
I love my Yaris. I have put almost 40,000kms on it, and I can see myself putting 400,000kms on it over the years.
Good video. Would have been even better if Luke had done a hot lap in each car and compared times as well.
Great episode Boys, i thoroughly enjoyed that !! 🤘🖤🤘
I was hoping Luke was going to do some hot laps in each and compare the times.
The cars aren't really comparable, the Golf is a heavy practical Hot Hatch, the Yaris is a mad Homologation spec of an eco town runner, and the BRZ is a entry level sports car. Making them compete would be like choosing between an Apple, Cheese and a Biscuit for which is the best snack. I mean, they're too different to have a fair comparison. What you would need is a car that has the same body shape, weight, gearbox, and engine with FWD, AWD, and RWD available to really see which is best and even then its gonna be personal preference and the Bias of the track, the FWD will be predictable but suffers from wheelspin, torque steer and understeer, the RWD will be faster on the straights and out of corners due to weight transfer but you need to be able to control that or you'll spin out and AWD will fast off the line and will offer no real surprises around the corners but will suffer at top end speed due to power having to be delivered to all 4 wheels meaning drivetrain loss is higher and depending on if the car favours front or back wheels it could still under or oversteer if pushed too hard. The Yaris would enjoy a tight technical circuit where its AWD system will come into its own, and it doesn't have to worry about top speed, the Golf would enjoy a good mixture of straights, long shallow turns and tight turns being able to do all of them and the RWD with enjoy long shallow turns, long straights and opportunities to put its weight on the back wheels.
Man Luke King is really vibing with Moog and Marty, such a nice dynamic between them :)
Very cool episode.
I too like having a traditional manual transmission.
Love the Episode's with Luke! He is a legend!
Top work as always MCM!
When do we get the reverse episode of you guys playing with Lukes toys? 🤣
I'd love to know what they all honestly thinks about the i30N's. Moog & Marty have mentioned them a couple of times and Luke races them so I'd love to know.
Really missing the old stuff, get a nugget..build it...rinse repeat...loved that
Cool video! It would be cool to see a drone shot showing the racing line you’re supposed to take, at least for the hot laps in future videos
Good to see Luke back.
I've had a lot of seat time in all three setups, and I've always felt like FWD keeps me honest. That's the one that demands the most. It's the hardest to fix mistakes. The other two you can kind of fake your way through.
And yes, everyone needs to practice heel-toe braking on the street all the time. It's very rewarding.
Yaris GR equivalent would be an Audi S1. S1's are a third of the price of GR's in the UK but not sure if that's reflected in the Aus market
There are only ten S1s on Carsales so I guess they're not really a thing here.
Here in the netherlands the Toyota GT86 and the golf GTI would both be the best value although still not that cheap (22k 2nd hand at least), while the GR Yaris is in another price class. My choice outside of these cars though is a Ford Fiesta ST MK7, bought one for 11K and it's great fun, maybe only 180 hp from the factory but a 4k investment will bump that up to 300~350hp making it a absolute pocket rocket as they say
I have a Fiesta ST200. A better car than the GTI when it comes to pure fun IMO
Yes it's slower, and has a cheap interior, but way cheaper to maintain and to drive.
@@neovenom7187 completely agree, love the thing, amazing fun to drive indeed
In Australia the GT86 is about $20k AUD, 7th gen GTI there's a few between 15 and 20k but mostly in the mid 20s. Fiesta ST are mostly 30k+, but the previous gen can be had under 20k. Same with the Focus ST. Yaris GR are 47k+. Of those I would probably look for a good deal on a previous model Fiesta or Focus.
@@AfferbeckBeats crazy how different those prices are compared to those here in the Netherlands, I'd definitely not pay 30k for a 2nd hand fiesta, 11k was a good price though for a 6 year old MK7, but 30k? Nah, for 35k i could get a Focus RS mk3 here
Loved this. At the end of the day whatever you choose you won´t go wrong.
Got to love the Turbo BRZ/86, they really brought that car to life ;)
Great fun to watch..!! Hopefully you can do more of this type of video in the future. Luke is awesome. Thanks. 👌👌👍👍
Wouldve been nice to give each a hotlap for comparison
YES!! Fiat 128 (and my beard is tingling) and I regret not keeping my 124sport (BC) from back in the day!
If you guys do another big swap, I'd love to see you throw the sti goodies into a brz next time instead of a levorg. I know it would be harder, but that would be truly EPIC!
I bought a 86 in 2021 and it is so much fun to daily drive! What wasn't mentioned in the video was how good looking each of the cars are. The amount of headturns and compliments people give me are astonishing for an affordable car!
The GR will be best value hands down, might not be fastest but the most accessible
And, AWD it's the most usable all year round
But most expensive to buy.
an extra 15 grand compared to the other 2
@@yeoj_ a new GTI is about the same as a GR Yaris.
…and also easily tuned
Luke, you legend! I used to own a Fiat 128, brilliant car. Pure Italian front drive. Love them.
FIAT 128! My first var was a Fiat 128 2 door with 1300 engine and lots of mods from a 3P. Excellent fun and quick cars!😃
Always a good day when I see a new MCM video
MCM might be able to buy a GR Yaris new, good luck to the rest of us plebs 😅😂
Great episode, smiling through! I would like the BRZ as a daily.
Agreed with Marty's list at the end.
These Aussie cousins of mine are good people! Bought thier bag of goodies bundle, which included my black chopped beanie. I thought it was cheap when I got it. But, nearly 3 years later, it looks like it did when I purchased it. I wash it, 'never' dry it.
Good stuff from good mates!
Cheers
As someone who lives in the southern US, the constant fly swatting is very relatable. Great episode also.
Got to love a brz
Why is this such a feel good video i couldnt stop smiling
It's a shame Moog hasn't had a dream where he had a modern Civic Type-R, as it's certainly the FWD performance king on a circuit. Plus, it has a manual transmission, so it would match the BRZ and GR Yaris.
Battle, but no driving?!?! Hopefully there will be a follow up to this episode, I was waiting for your driver to take the cars out for a hot lap, but never happened :(
I agre with the pro driver on the order of cars.
love the technicality in this video!
I know which I prefer, as I own the rwd one.
9:08 That is such a great tip. There's just too many people thinking they're going to be limited by the safety systems when out on track for the first time. While in reality, especially traction control will end up saving their butts, because at speed there is a fine line between being in control and becoming a passenger behind the wheel. This is also the reason why there's so many videos of people destroying their cars on tracks, especially on the NBR.
Great to see Luke again!
Who doesn’t love watching a pro driver? Great show guys
I have a BRZ with headers and a custom dyno tune (and handling mods) and I feel it has enough power. I drive it a lot in the twisties, the “Black Spur” for those of us in Victoria, and it still scares me. Can’t imagine going WOT with a turbo BRZ through that sort of course. Is a turbo on a BRZ really a “must have”? A lot of guys on UA-cam say it needs a turbo etc., agree it’s lacking power, but headers and a tune make it feel how it should’ve been out of the factory. A BRZ with headers and a tune roughly equals a stock S2000 IMO. Loved the video guys, great comparison.
The S2000 is a bit underpowered as well, especially in comparison to modern stuff (I used to own one). I can't speak for everyone, but quite a few of the "BRZ/86 needs a turbo model" people on the internet aren't asking for a 400HP tuner car, but a BRZ/86 with a basic WRX-level engine. A 270-280 HP BRZ/86 would be a tremendous car from the factory (and no, it wouldn't drive the sticker price up by $10k like some people claim, since most of the driveline and suspension bits are already the same or nearly the same as the WRX, which handles 270 HP just fine).
The king returns, hope this guy keeps on making frequent appearances
Mate that's some engineering that song you put together totally flabbergasted,
Excellent work dude 😎 bullet/ Japanese Version
Luke was very good on camera. usually guests are a bit off, but he was so chill
Love that you guys got Luke back!
It's awesome that you are giving a car to a deserving person. But you should do some large give aways in other countries. Maybe not the US where I live. That's probably to far away. But other countries in your area. Love your show. Been watching for a long time. Thank you so much for all your hard work for mine and others benefit. You guys are awesome.
love the continuity
5:08 I am convinced that man has a huntsman spider on his head.... bloody straya for ya.
Great episode. Love the banter oh and the cars..
"Street cred from people in the know" hahaha that was a good laugh
Yeah man, FIAT 128! My Dad bought one new in 72. Between myself and my brother we ran that 1111cc motor ragged! Really taught us in a FWD car never, never, ever, ever touch the brakes in a turn 😂 Light as a feather and quick because of that. Also taught us how to start a car with a ever so slight downward slope. (starter dead for 3 years as required pulling the motor to fix)😮
Love Luke - would be great to get him go into a bit more depth - certainly looked like he never really got to "rag" any of the cars on film. Failing that - not sure Danny Ric is too busy next year, so should be able to find time for you... 😁
Awesome video...and one take !! Such professionals .
Cool video. Great to see the different drive style cars.
Bet not in your wildest dreams did you think you would be 15yrs in doing this with your mate...
Thabks for keeping it real to very few on you tube just being them selves.
Keep safe keep true to who you are and we will keep watching..

Was expecting Marty to roll in during the ending with an AWD Mark 7.5 Golf R 6Speed Manual with a trailer load of mods for the win.
