    Ghana Railway Corporation operates the railways of Ghana. The Ghana Railway Company Limited is a public-sector body with responsibility for the efficient management of the national rail system so as to enhance the smooth movement of goods and passengers.
    The original 304-kilometre (189 mi) Eastern Railway was built in 1923 by the British for the purpose of hauling minerals and cocoa.
    Currently the Accra to Tema, Accra to Kotoku, and Awaso to Dunkwa and south to Takoradi are the only parts of the Ghana railway lines in operation.
    About 1,300 kilometres of railway lines in Ghana are undergoing major rehabilitation.
    Today I am taking the train from Tema all the way to Accra and sharing my experiences along the way.

    My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
    My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what its like to live in Ghana, from the Ghanaian food, to the Ghanaian culture, to the Ghanaian lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and help inspire to explore Ghana.
    My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.
    Follow your bliss because life is short, follow your bliss because human life has no intrinsic value, follow your bliss because everything happens for the greater good and follow your bliss because it has all happened before.

    They need to expand it to cover other parts of Accra and add new stations and routes also fence the entire railway line to prevent people and animals encroachment.

    Kenyan here, it's a cool train. The management should however increase the height of the platform to be the same level as the door to make it easier for people moving in and out, especially the disabled

    This is bringing back memories of travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi with my mother and brothers. We used to take the sleeper and we'd travel overnight. We'd be in kumasi by morning. That was when the train used to move from side to side. Scary but fun 😃😀

    If you buy land nearby you can make it a pay and park and have shuttles busses that comes back and forth every 15 to 30 minutes.

    You made me remember my first train ride. I was very excited I was 16 years old and by myself. I was returning home after spending the summer at my Grandfathers farm in Oklahoma going home to Virginia. I even changed trains at GRAND CENTRAL STATION in Chicago Ill. Part of the trip the train went very fast and the track was smooth. And one part was very ruff, so bad I thought we would derail even though the train was going about 30 mph.

    Thank you for sharing this video about the train ride as I have asked many tour guides when I arrive to Accra if there is a railway system, yet no one seemed to have that knowledge. This has been the answer to years of inquiry! This was such an enjoyable video!

    In as much as Ghana has its fair share if problems but some times we should try to remain positive that we will develop, the other countries we say are better than Ghana also have their own issues. Most of our problems are made by ourselves

    Jasmine thanks for sharing. The commentary was on point. I am glad to see the Tema to Accra train line back in business. These trains are very old. Back in the west you find much newer trains including very high speed trains that would have done this journey in about 30 minutes. But Ghana has gone in the right direction with fixing the lines and sprucing the trains. I can’t wait to see the newer trains.
    Odorgorno is the name of a Senior High School in that neighborhood not the name of the neighborhood. Also the railway lines were there years before most of these neighborhoods got developed as they are now. Jasmine was all smiles when she mentioned Achimota Station, I think she was thinking about her old high school.

    An hour and half ride from Tema to Accra central is not too bad. Driving on that Motorway can be a bit stressful with frustrating traffic. Thats why I always wakes up early whenever I'm going on a trip via that motorway. But traffic in Accra in general is atrocious. Not to mention the crazy driving. It always takes me at least a week to get acclimated to driving conditions out there. But this was a very nice adventurous ride.

The world today is not the world we knew in the 60's & 70's. We heard what occurred on Nigeria train ooh. Step up Security Agents 🌎🇬🇭.

      @rainbow3649 2 роки тому

      That, they didnt know that Ghana ever had trains. I wonder if theyve ever been anywhere where u can even see the old train tracks, haha. Yes, we had trains that brought all the foods from villages, to Accra, kantamanto, very early in the morning, the do their supplying and sales, and leave before the sun came up! Kantamanto was our special market purposely for straight foods from farms from far away places, never this kantamanto of today, for second hand clothes, second hand clothes was by tema station next go makola, behind lotteries, nicely enclosed and not really a big business like today, because we didnt really care much for secondhand clothes.

    • @rainbow3649
      @rainbow3649 2 роки тому +3

      Ooh, more than 20yrs kwraa! I grew up in the 70s and we used to take it to Tema with my mum, at the crack of dawn, to go and do her fishing harbour business. It's just the usual lack of maintenance habit of everything else, and that makes things so difficult for consumers and the public! I just wish that we will learn that, without maintenance, nothing will ever last long. Today's generation, are the ones sadly commenting

    Allowed the Railway system that was built in the 1940s to fall into disrepair then borrowed billions to build trains that look like they were built in the 1940s. LOL! Same thing has happened in every West African country , yet the same train system built by the British at the same time in Britain is still in excellent condition.

      Very ignorant comment! These coaches and the tracks are the same, since independence. They are not newly built. They just repair them... the newly built railway is the Tema to mpakadan track.

    After reading the comments underneath this post, I’m convinced that Ghana and Ghanians have a huge task ahead. Let me emphasize that when you see Nigerians complaining about their country, it’s not because they don’t have good Infrastructures or living fine to a modest level, all they want is more and to compete with developed countries. Have you seen the train stations and trains in Lagos, Nigeria or Abuja, Nigeria. The trains are very Modern and train stations are super magnificent, they all look like Airports inside and out, and this is what Ghanians want to settle for? You guys need to wake up and challenge your Government. You guys also need to travel more and get exposure! Damn, I’m disappointed!!!

      You very stupid, don’t compare Nigeria to Ghana. Check the infrastructure index between the two countries, you would realize that Ghana is far ahead than Nigeria. Bro, you country is failed country! For your information, if your infrastructure is poor, it reflect on your human development index, that’s why Nigeria is trailing behind Ghana, in terms of human development index.
