    How do you differentiate between la mère (the mother) and la mer (the sea)? Both sound the same to me.

      That was exactly what I was going to ask.

      Salut!. Mère (mother), Mer (sea) and Maire (Mayor) are Homonymes! Like Dali S said, it's all about context.

      Le mer. La mère. Plus getting the context. Then you need to master - sans, son, sang, cent, s’en 😉

      They do sound and are pronounced exactly the same. You can only tell them apart from the context :)

      When I was in France (I spent a semester at a French University) I could understand the lectures in class. I could understand what people said to me on the street. I could understand announcements on the train. But when it was time to speak - then I struggled. J'ai toujours du mal à parler. Les paroles sont dans la tête mais elles ne sortent pas de la bouche !

      I think it's a stage that we all go through. It should come with practice, listening to French radio, acquiring more vocab.

    i think ive been pronouncing neuf wrong for a long time haha. for some reason i didn't recognize it. is it possible it changes with accents in different areas? like canada

    • @LanguageCity
      @LanguageCity  7 років тому +1

      Well in Canada, many words will be pronounced differently, but in general, there is only one way of saying "neuf".

      I also found the pronunciation of "neuf" to be unusual in this video. I live in France. Here in the video I've heard
      af\ rather than
      œf\ .

    Je suis un peu jaloux que tu sois aussi parfaitement bilingue. Comment as-tu accompli à être parfaitement bilingue? Tu peux me répondre à : melinski at optimum dot net, si tu le préfères. En plus, je voudrais te parler de tes cours particuliers de français pour des gens, comme moi, qui voudraient améliorer leur niveau de français parlé. Qu’est-ce tu offres comme cours et à quoi pourrais-je attendre en suivant un de tes cours? Il semble que je ne fait guère de progrès ces jours-ci. Merci de ta réponse quand tu auras le temps.
