bravissima and diabolical. She keeps the roulades light and when necessary increases the pressure, as if to convince the audience that her luck has really changed. A few final sounds (one or two) are slightly shouted and out of control unfortunately, but everything else is sung in a way that serves as a lesson to future generations, never never changing throat position, leaving the sounds fluid, legato but always precise. She took up an aria she used to do as a girl. More than this, it is impossible to go into singing and style
The vocal technique is fine; the breath support is just no longer there. Back in the 1980s, I read an interview with Phyllis Curtin where she pointed to the loss of breath support as the root of Callas's vocal problems, pointing out the slumped forward shoulder and the sinking chest we see here. And I think she was 100% correct. Callas herself said not long before she died that she lost strength in her diaphragm, which led to her troubles. I think her loss of breath support was caused by her rapid and drastic weight loss, where she lost 80 pounds in a year, going from 220 lbs to 140 lbs, and she was almost 5' 9" tall. By 1959, she was rumored to be 119 pounds. As Renee Fleming said about this subject, I think Callas's weight was an important component of how she supported her huge and heavy voice, having been a larger girl all her life. I don't think there is any way that someone with a large voice such as this could lose over a third of their body mass and have their voice remain unaffected. You can certainly hear a difference in the sound from 1953 to 1954. I think her loss of voice was one of the greatest operatic tragedies of the last centuries. Geniuses like Callas rarely come along.
@@thesedreamsarefree Callas's prime vocal years on recording were 1949 to 1953. By mid 1954, she had lost a substantial amount of weight and looked glamorous, but the voice had begun to thin out as a result and to lose volume and plushness. She did do some incredible singing still until 1959.
Her technique was always flawless even at the end it was still there. It was her breath and diaphragm support that weakened. When you're a bel canto expert and world class soprano only then you can pass judgement on a flawless technique, untill then be quiet and educate yourself
Straordinaria!
Come sempre inarrivabile!

When Callas sings is fluid like cristal river water...
Proper Bel Canto technique
I know Maria Callas was famous for her tragic roles, but, oh, I would have given my eye teeth to see her perform in a staged “Cenerentola.” 🤩
She would have been the perfect Cenerentola because she already was Cenerentola.
So gern! :)
Deeply appreciate this post of our Maya❤

Callas 👑- Superb ♥️🐝🪽🪽🥹!!!
Bartoli - sounds like a damaged car engine. 😂😌
I agree
Her vocal technique is sorely lacking here, unfortunately. Not her best, but her interpretation IS excellent. :)
Too bad you were not there to advise her !
@@512gontran Shame you were not there to advise her as well though you offered nothing of relevant constructive use.

Entschuldigung, aber das ist keine Koloratur.
No it's genius apocalyptic singing
