- Elīna Garanča performing "Nacqui all'affanno... Non più mesta" from Rossini's opera La Cenerentola during the final of the 2001 Cardiff Singer Of The World competition.
The Latvian mezzo-soprano gained major recognition following her 2003 Salzburg Festival appearances. Engangements at renowned opera houses around the world soon followed, including the Met and Vienna State Opera. She has released various audio recordings over the years, including the Grammy Award winning Bajazet conducted by Fabio Biondi, in which she sang the role of Andronicus.

This is 22+ years ago ? Elina looks & sounds much the same today. Amazing !!
If only she sounded the same today... She has overworked her voice with Verdian repertoire without having a strong chestvoice for low notes and this makes her look out of place as Eboli or Amneris, while she was better off as any of the three Rossini low voiced heroines (Rosina, Isabella, Angelina), Mozart, some belcanto roles, Massenet's Werther's Charlotte or Carmen. Still, I admire her love for Zarzuela repertoire and how she has mastered some bravura pieces, stunning the Spanish audience with a very well done job.

This performance dates back many years. Over that time no doubt her singing has progressed. To the mere admirer of beauty I can only say how lovely she is and how much I enjoy watching and listening to her. Ican only repeat what her many admirers have said so well.
Merită din plin s-o asculți și s-o privești, în egală măsură, pe talentata, frumoasa și eleganta mezzosoprană Elīna Garanča. O voce superbă, cu un timbru și o rezonanță care te fac s-o tot privești și s-o tot asculți. Pe lângă toate acestea, privirea și zâmbetul, mereu atrăgătoare te fac s-o privești și deopotrivă s-o admiri.

Am vazut-o acum citva ani la noi in Wien in Eboli ( Don Carlo ) . Exceptionala. ❤
