Excellent showcasing this so clearly, with that level of safety and so professionally! Thank you for sharing and highlighting this danger mechanism, which I think many paddleboarders might understand in theory but have never seen in practice.
Have only just seen this video so shared on Facebook. This needs sharing far and wide. As a whitewater kayaker I know the dangers but it scares the hell out of me that so many people are playing in an environment with equipment and no knowledge of how fast things can escalate and no idea how dangerous ankle leashes are. Lockdown has made water spot more popular and with places like Lidl selling boards more accessible. I warned a local provider of the dangers of ankle leashes ages ago and they lied telling me they didn’t use them yet I still see them posting photos of groups wearing them on rivers which infuriates me.
Thank you. I'm new to SUP and have heard a lot of advice about waist/chest leashes for flowing water. This is a great demonstration of why. I've ordered mine now.
I'm new to SUP and my friend said I needed to get a waist leash (which I'll be doing today). If you add a link to a suitable leash in the description (I'll be buying an HF I think) then it'll help people like me easily buy something safe. BTW your videos are excellent - thanks for sharing but if you change the titles to be more descriptive it'll help them get discovered by people like me ("entrapment" isn't something I'd search but "SUP river safety using a waist belt" is :-) Many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Amazing work guys. This I want pushed for all boards. We've just lost a family member in North Wales due to this scenario, it's ripped us all apart. I've joined a group and I will be campaigning along side other to promote all manufactures to supply manadotory waist/chest straps.
Very informative and the main reason why I always calf leash below the knee rather than ankle leash, even when riding on lakes and the sea. Much easier to get to if needed.
The manufacturers should stop making and selling conventional leashes with legstrap. The safest version should be made for every SUP. Maybe the EU should intervene and force the manufacturers making only safe equipments for water sports. The life jackets, PFD-s has also issues which can cause problems. They should be redesigned.
overall sup in white water is a bit dumb imo you fall from so high just go kayak and keep sup in lac or ocean your giving bad rep to the withe water sport

Excellent explanation. Thank you. I now realize I was doing it wrong, but luckily didn’t have to pay the consequences. I will be changing my system.
Glad it was helpful! Please share the info. The more we share the people we keep safe
A very powerful illustration.

Feel free to share this. There has been 1 death and a few very close call.

Excellent illustration of a safety issue. Thanks.

Thank you M.
RIP Joanne Dening. We lost a girl in New Zealand because of ankle leash.
@@ledang9584 sorry to hear.. we are doing our best over here to change people and manufactures to use/sell waist belts for all inflatable sups .
Excellent!
great clip

We just need to educate both manufacturers and paddler.
