      Look into using natural marshmallow root which is what was used in original marshmallow. Gelatin is used today instead of actual marshmallow root.

    I have made these for many years. I got my recipe from the Farm Journal Homemade Candy cookbook. The only difference is that my recipe does not have the light corn syrup. After cutting mine, I roll them in toasted coconut. OH MY. What a treat these are. And the freshest marshmallows on the planet. I hope everyone tries them. Thanks for sharing!

      How much sugar if no corn syrup?

    • @Lady.Fern.
      @Lady.Fern. 7 місяців тому +3

      @@quetywilson3587the corn syrup just helps prevent crystallization when heating the sugar. You can replace it with the equivalent amount of cane sugar plus 1/4th cup extra water than the recipe calls for.

      @@ireneblizzard I use three egg whites, a teaspoon of lemon juice, a teaspoon of vanilla essence and about 500g of icing sugar (I think US calls it confectioner’s sugar?). I use a balloon whisk attachment on my mixer to whisk the egg whites and lemon juice until thick and frothy, pour in the icing sugar and fold in a few times so the powder doesn’t go everywhere and whisk on high until thick, white and glossy then mix in the vanilla at the end. This makes quite a large amount but freezes well x

    Love it! At Christmas one year, I put candy canes in my food processor and pulsed them until they were powdery. Then I added them to the powdered sugar. It gave the marshmallows, a light pink cast. And boy were they good!

    This is awesome. Your vids warm my heart because they do not feel fake or well rehearsed. You are being natural, you are in your element and are so very happy. What I love the most about your vids is honesty. You make messes, you make mistakes and you make delicious treats. LOL .. My husband in the kitchen does not spill sugar or flower or do any of the doofus stuff I do. I simply cannot bake anything or cook anything with out a huge mess like getting sugar on the floor, wearing flower, wearing chocolate, wearing eggs. LOL. The point is ... I feel better about my baking abilities because you make messes too and you teach. So, I have been baking a lot more and withstanding painful criticisms. Thank you for helping me feel better about myself over all! Thank you!

    For anyone looking for a review, here’s mine!:
    First, I just wanna start off with.. these were AMAZING!
    Recently, I’ve been having problems with recipes like with pretzels, and churros, and I was feeling kind a of down
    I decided that if this didn’t turn out good I just had a problem with baking. So, I went to Walmart and bought all the ingredients and then few days later after school, I started making these marshmallows. It was so simple and fun! The gelatin bloomed really well, and the trick with the cold water worked! When it was time to mix, I rotated between my sister and I. Overall I’d say it took 15 minutes for the first part of the mixing (no vanilla or salt) and abt 5-10 more with the vanilla and salt. I was a little anxious so I probably mixed it overtime, anyway when it was done I taste tested it and I COULD NOT stop eating it! It was so fluffy and delicious, I had to force myself to wait. Finally, when setting it, it looked no where near as perfect as John’s but that’s to expect bcuz I’m a beginner lol
    In conclusion, if you wanna try this recipe or any other recipe check out this channel! John is positive and funny and makes it easy to follow recipes! This marshmallow recipe was a total success, and can’t wait to try another! :D
