I've now had this knife for well over a year and use it daily for plumbing. The bit loosened up and is a perfect knife now. Just get passed the first few months and you won't regret it.
I carry the newer model everyday, next to my Leatherman Wave+ on my belt. This extends the blade life on my multi tool by tons. Cutting boxes, drywall and such, as you stated no cutting device in reach. The bit in the driver is respectfully tight. It does free up. Try some graphite or lube . I appreciate the input. It’s a great tool. Don’t dismiss it.
Carried it everyday since purchasing it. Tried some lubricant several months ago (helped a little bit) but graphite is where I think it’s at. Thanks for sharing.
The bit holder on mine eventually got more loose and it’s pretty easy to swap now. However I notice now it has a bit more play in the bit itself when it’s in there to all sides. If this had a ball detent in there instead of a circlip it would be much more reliable
I keep meaning to put a drop of Marvel Oil in there. It still hangs up on me sometimes but what do you do. Great concept though, appreciate the feedback.
@@campbellbuilt I get the same kind of thing with the ball detent on snap on ratchets, particularly 1/4 inch. I don't use them like I used to so my 11" 1/4" Dr for example is a headache every time I use it to be honest, getting a greasy 8mm socket off is impossible without pliers.

This is a tool that works perfectly, I've used mine for over a year.. It is of the highest quality as far as construction is concerned. All functions work 100 percent. Imagine the time an engineering and manufacturing team went through to create an amazing tool only to have some one like this crap on the perfect tool you created. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
So after using the second knife for a few days I’ve noticed the bit holder is also very tight. Not as tight as the original but unless you have really strong hands it’s a no go. I really want this knife to work for me😕
I haven't had that issue with my 1505. Still great video. Thanks. They have another one with out the screw driver that holds up to five spare blades. The 1505 has a spot on the inside where you can store one extra blade
Just got the updated version of this tool a few days ago... They fixed the bit holder by using a detent pin instead of a friction ring and now it works really great out of the box. You were not the only one complaining about it ! ;-)
I also had a hard time getting the bit in and out until I discovered you just need to line up the flat side of the slotted end bit with the small ball bearing on the outside. No matter which side I put the bit in as long as the ball bearing is lined up to the flat end it goes in and out easily. If the bit is turned it becomes hard.
Thinking of buying this one. My trustee old knife is annoying me. The blade cover latch is worn out and it keeps opening up while I use it. It's often overlooked but it's one of the tools I use the most. From opening up packages to sharpening pencils, it does a lot of things. Worth buying a good one.
bought one less than two weeks ago from home depot.. from the very begging i had a hard time removing Phillips bit...... this past friday, i went to use the slotted bit, same thing....i had a hard time removing bit. flip it over and the darn bit would not go in... i tapped on it with a pair of pliers and i still couldn't get the bit to go back in so hence, it won't close..... i finally force it back on, but now it is very loose. the bit no longer held on by tension, it will slide out.. i lost the home depot receipt so now i'm stuck with this knife that's defective.. not happy..
I love that knife. Carry one all the time and it is amazing how often I pull it out even when not working. A tip I have about that bit. Grind the corners off the straight screwdriver bit. It seems to be to wide and can catch on the retaining ring and screw it up and then it won't hold the bit in anymore. Take the corners off and it won't happen.
I have a few different fastback models that live in various pouches. This one lives on my small OX leather pouch with a sharpie, and mechanical pencil and a small knipix adjustable cobra pliers.
My screw bit came out like it was in my pocket and is not stuck in place I can’t get it out am currently trying to fix it like it bumped out like in the closed position wasn’t rough with it Literally second day of having it
The bit retaining clip popped out the first day on mine. I popped it back in and it's been fine. I think it has to break in. Also, you can actually store a spare blade on that too.
i stepped up to the Milwaukee fast back from the old Stanley thumb slide out the front. Holy moly, what a difference. Love this knife. Mine is a plain one without the screw driver, model 1901.
Just visited my parents and we did some work while we were there for a couple days. I used my father’s Milwaukee original Fastback since I had left mine at home. I kept thinking while using it, this is one great knife. Appreciate the comment.
Best knife for drywall finishing I have found because I can fix screws and take off outlet covers all in one tool. My only concern is that if I drop it from high up it could break.
When you slide the straight blade side into the new style ball/spring retainer pay attention to how the bit is clocked. If the widest part of the bit lines up with the ball it is difficult to install and remove. Clock it off one way or the other and it is noticeably easier. Try it!
When the spring gets out of the groves you have to push it back in with a small screwdriver. Then it will work but the bit wiggles a little but doesn't fall out. I'm gonna try to get a magnet that will fit and then carry a couple different 1 sided bits instead of the double bit.
Appreciate the comment first off, my comment here isn’t towards you because you sound just like myself. You just want a tool that works. I really like these knives but wish they had come up with something other to retain the bit. I’ve been told to (Man Up) and just fight to get the bit out. Why, I Man Up every day to do my line of work. I shouldn’t have to fight with a bit. LOL
"Man up" to use a screwdriver? We shouldn't have to use a pair of pliers to pull out or reverse the bits (otherwise we might as well just carry our Leathermans). I really want to like this product and I would gladly have paid more money to have it use bits with a detent. I think a magnet will work though. I hope so because it's great idea. I was planning to carry a 1/4 inch driver extention for more reach, a variety of bits, my Knipex pliers, and a small adjustable wrench because I don't love multitools because you can only access and use one tool at a time.
I have a few of the original all metal ones. Got this new one because of the driver and in addition to it being plastic, I had the same problem with the bit. First time pulling the bit out, it launched out of my hand and was gone lol.
I am going to do a light mod on mine. The retention came so tight, that I need pliers to remove the bit. So I'm putting a 5mm × 1mm magnet at the bottom to make it magnetic, and removed the ring inside altogether.
