English Lit exam tomorrow and after 3 or 4 years, and I've only just found the best channel for English Literature and how to answer these types of questions properly.
Thank you for this video.
Same boat here, good luck and try to get enough sleep, I slept through one of my mocks because I literally couldn't think about the exam.
Thank you so much!! I wish you all the very best for it tomorrow
You’ve got this. I believe in you. You can do this!!
This video was really helpful and helped me achieve a grade 8, could not thank u enough
Honestly, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind, kind words. I’m so pleased to hear about your success too! 😊 wishing you amazing grades in the future and thank you so much for your support 👍😁

Correct answer! 😂 If you have any other suggestions for other videos by the way, I’m more than welcome to try and see if I can produce some content on it 👍 all the very best!
I’m really really sorry to ask you this but I genuinely struggle to watch the video with the music in the background, I don’t want to trouble you but is there any way for me to be able to remove it from the background or even if you wouldn’t mind posting another one of this exact video removing the music. (I don’t mean taking this video down) if not it’s completely okay
Hi! No need to apologise at all! Thank you for the comment. I completely understand and have removed it on future videos. I will take a look into it and see if there’s any way I can get the original recording and post it. I really appreciate the feedback and will look into it for you 😊
Thank you so much I greatly appreciate it
What would you recommend as a method for remembering quotes? I have been using post-its around the house for the past month or so but struggle to correctly remember them when questioned.
This is a fantastic question - may I ask for your permission to use this comment in a video where I answer this topic? I’ll film it within 24 hours
My English literature exam takes place on Wednesday, Im currently sitting at a grade 9 on my lit and I find your language and interpretations very useful. Thanks for the extremely informing videos mate they are really going to help me.
Oh thank you so, so much for your kind words! They’ve made my day 😁 absolute best of luck for your exam tomorrow! 👍
Thank you so much for this video it is so useful!! Do you have any ideas with what could come up for Macbeth this year? (For this particular exam board).
Thank you, Phoebe!! It’s a total guessing game but what’s not come up before is kingship, Banquo (specimen paper only) and the supernatural
@@GuigLit Thank you so much!! :) I thought that the supernatural had come up already?
I’ll be honest I don’t think it is but I don’t have my list in front of me!
would you say what the eduqas examiners and mark scheme is looking for in a grade 8/9 english lit essay differs greatly from AQA? many videos on youtube have AQA english lit advice, is this still relevant?
Hi Eva! Not really at all to be honest. All exam boards are in essence looking for the exact same thing with just a tweak here and there. An 8/9 on AQA is not really different from EDUQAS or any other exam board, the only difference lies in the questions that are set as they sometimes are shaped differently.
Ultimately it’s always about clear expression and meaning with short quotes and detailed analysis 👍
On the 15 marker do u need to write a conclusion summarising like the extract and its significance, also what are the timings for the Macbeth questions that we should aim for
I believe timing is 20/40, for me anyways. I prefer writing the extract as an introduction/overview, such as stating where it is in Macbeth, what’s happening and why things are happening like they are, but it’s up to you
great video, i just wanted to ask for the 15 marker are you required to write a conclusion as i have noticed that you havent included one in your answer. My teacher tells us to write a conclusion
My honest answer to that is it’s useful but not essential. If it’s a choice between an extra point and a conclusion always choose the former.
I was recommended this video by a friend. I've found it very useful and beneficial. Thank you so much :)
I’m so happy to hear that, it’s great to hear it’s helped you too 😊 thank you so much for your kind words and support. If you have any other suggestions for other videos I’m more than welcome to try and see if I can produce some content on it 👍 all the very best!
@@GuigLit Your welcome, I'd like to request that you do poetry anthology if you don't mind.
I can take a look! What exam board are you?
@@GuigLit Currently it is GCSE Eduqas.
Oh perfect! That’s the one I teach! So I’ll absolutely go through those over the next few months. My free tip for now is to eventually select a ‘top five/six’ to absolutely master once you’ve covered them all. You’re not expected to know the entire anthology word-for-word
For all the people thats got this mabeth gcse tomorrow and they are not at all well prepared then i cant really help you cuz even i got it too and i dont know anything sorry
good luck mate 👍
Good luck, guiglit was my English teacher and I’m praying I do him justice 😭
@divinedm I’m sure you will, whoever you are! I believe in you 🫡
I’ve videos to help. There’s always time!
@@GuigLit THANK YOUUU, I’ll remain mysterious 😈
I've got my lit paper tomorrow I'm dreading it 😭
You’ve got it! I believe in you!
Same dude in flunking
In the extract question, is it necessary to write the whole line/sentence that a character speaks? I am only asking this as I was told you only need to embed the quotes into your answer as evidence, which is what you did as well but you also wrote out the whole part of the extract that you were talking about in the first paragraph of the 15 marker.
nah you can just take the important bits of the quote and put ellipse in middle for eg stars hide your fires ... black and deep desires. The examiner will generally be a trained english trainer so will have extensive knowledge of play so theyll instantly recognise the quote.
hii! do you have any predictions for the 2023 Eduqas poetry anthology paper? thank u sm for your wonderful videos !!
Hi Kausar! That’s a great question! I’m really hoping for Power and Ozymandias/Hawk Roosting, but it’s hard to say, I’m making that prediction based on what has not really been seen recently 🤞
Amazing vid! i was taught that you dont get any marks for context in macbeth eduqas like you were writing in the overview for the second question? could you please cofirm or deny??
Thank you so much! I can confirm that it is indeed true there are no marks directly for context. I find that in the overview it just demonstrates good, secure knowledge instead to refer to those parts. Don’t forget also that Macbeth is one of the few that provides a few marks for SPAG. Best of luck!
Thank you for making this video and good luck to everyone tomorrow
You’re more than welcome. Absolute best of luck, thank you for your kind words!
How many quotes do you recommend we try and remember altogether. So far I have learnt like 16: 5 for Macbeth, 5 for Lady Macbeth, 2 for Witches, 2 for Banquo, 2 for Macduff.
That sounds as good as perfect to me!
Just keep them versatile so think of them as quotes you can apply to lots of different contexts
@@GuigLit Oh ok thank you. It's just as I realised that the second question is completely unrelated to the extract, and the amount of quotes you used in your second answer was quite substantial considering it was only a single theme.
That’s a very fair point. The first question is all about digging into the extract as it’s there in front of you whereas the second is a test of your own knowledge, so quotes should absolutely still be used but they’re not expected to be crystal clear for example
Very helpful video, just one question: Do you not need to include context in your answers for a grade 9 response?
Thank you! For Macbeth knowing and applying context can help strengthen your overall understanding but AO3 (context) is not explicitly marked/considered in the mark scheme.
So there is no AO3 for question 2.1 or 2.2 so no context at all is needed? So where is context needed then?
you put that in poetry poetry needs context macbeth doesnt :)
Any predictions for tommorows poetry and Macbeth?
Thank you for the vid, what themes should we know for Macbeth???
You’re welcome!
The top themes I would suggest are:
- Superstition
- Violence
- Gender
- Religion
- Kingship
Best of luck and thank you for your support!
@@GuigLit Okay thank you!!
You’re welcome! Thanks again and best of luck!
Aren't you meant to lay out the essay (Second question) like Introduction,3 paragraphs, conclusion?
Hi there! This is an excellent question. That’s a perfectly good structure, it’s just all a matter of timing. I prefer to have three developed points and a conclusion if there’s time to spare, as the vast majority of marks are on the analysis itself. I hope that that makes sense. Thank you for your comment!
@@GuigLit Thank you, your videos are super helpful!
Ah thank you so much for the kind words and support!! It really means the world 👍 cheers!
would the 15 marker be a model answer of full marks?
It would achieve a top grade, yes
Did he say that's only a grade 7/8 response. I am actually finished.
I've got my English lit tommorow and Im so scared because I feel like Im going to fail :[
If you’ve taken the time and effort to be here and try and practise then you absolutely won’t fail. I believe in you and I’m proud of you as a person and that’s all. That matters.
@GuigLit I've tried to make an effort, but I kept getting distracted, and now I feel I'm going to fail because I didn't do enough soon enough. I'm sorry :(
@DapperGhst it’s all up for grabs, nothing has been decided or confirmed, it’s a completely open page. The effort will pay off 👍
@GuigLit sorry for all of these comments lol, I was catastrophising and my exams went pretty well, thank you :)
@DapperGhst haha not at all! Anything to help! I’m sure you did fantastically 😁👍
Hi, do I need to mention context in both questions?
In Macbeth, no AO3 (this is context) is required according to the mark scheme. But it might help to show your understanding of the play, or help with your answer. I'm not sure about this though.
is it important to talk about context in the 25 marker?
Excellent question. Context should only ever be half a sentence or so AND if it’s important.
Also remember context is two sides:
CONTEXT OF RECEPTION (IE when it took place, EG ‘at the time it was first performed witches were viewed as a legitimate threat)
CONTEXT OF PRODUCTION (IE how a modern audience watches it, EG ‘to a modern audience, Macbeth’s hallucinations are the result of a troubled mind’)
Very interesting. Can you please do a Romeo and Juliet one please. Thanks a million
Hi Zaheeda! Thanks for the comment. Absolutely! It will take a few weeks but I’ll get it done. Have a great day!
please help me. I just found your channel and im working on grade 3 right now and I really need to pass.
Hi! Sure. If you’re looking for more detailed help than my videos I also offer tutoring or personalised exam marking. Please contact GuigLit via my Instagram account or email address
@@GuigLit I am not allowed to do that but it would REALLY help if you make a video on how to structure your Macbeth paragraphs on the eduqas exam board and do another live walkthrough on a different question that is a bit harder so that I can compare. Thank you :) (my mocks are really close, at the start of july, so before that would be appreciated).
could u do more essays for macbeth 2023 macduff fear and loyalty
Hi! Thanks for the comment. I’ll do something similar in terms of how I might plan them
A lot of knowledge - but no explicit teaching of academic writing skill. Good model of academic writing though.
Hi Mark! Thanks for the feedback, I’ll bear this in mind for future content 👍
