    hi, how do you hit AO4 within this unseen prose essay? As you've stated do not bring in other texts, what sort of things are relevant to ensure hitting the criteria?

    • @GuigLit

      You can also consider links within the text, so connections back to other points in the extract or links to broader genres or contexts.

      Thank you so much! My advice is TABL only at the start. It’s a good way to set yourself up for the whole essay itself. You wouldn’t need to use it after that. Best of luck!

    Lord of the Flies

    • @GuigLit
      @GuigLit Місяць тому

      ‘Maybe there is a beast… maybe it's only us.’ This quote, spoken by Simon in chapter five, is one of the most significant in the novel because it encapsulates the novel's central theme: the inherent evil within human nature. The "beast" isn't a literal creature; it's a symbol for the savagery and violence that emerge as the boys' civility unravels. Simon's realisation is tragically ahead of its time, and the boys' inability to understand it ultimately leads to their descent into chaos.

    • @wethan9569
      @wethan9569 Місяць тому

      @@GuigLit last question, how would you approach different quotes without looking at secondary sources? Like looking at a quote and then perhaps thinking about techniques or themes or links to other parts in the text? That’s the main problem I have… thanks!

    • @GuigLit
      @GuigLit Місяць тому

      @wethan9569 not at all! Keep them coming! So always make the quote the most important part and spend time analysing it for its own worth. Maybe add a few words as far as its location is concerned now and then but really stick to the quote and its impact in and of itself first 👍

    • @GuigLit
      @GuigLit Місяць тому

      “He [Gatsby] looked at her [Daisy] the way all girls want to be looked at”. This demonstrates Gatsby’s inherent desire for Daisy and that arguably he is in love with her instead of her money (though this is a debate throughout the entire novella)

    What about oxymoron and all of those techniques why i have never seen that on ur videos and i think all with this exam board is picking a quote and say something on that would get you a mark is that right?!

    • @GuigLit
      @GuigLit 3 місяці тому

      Put simply, techniques have their place and you would get marks for considering them but they aren’t nearly as important as range/coverage of quotes and getting to grips with the meaning itself. Feel free to use them but I strongly suggest treading carefully - they should cap off any point made and not be an end unto themselves

    • @pampoone623

      @@GuigLit would you get full marks just by picking a range of quotes and put their meanings alongside them ?!

    • @GuigLit
      @GuigLit 3 місяці тому

      @pampoone623 I would suggest it needs to be slightly more sophisticated than that - the key term in the mark scheme for top band on such a Q is ‘detailed analysis’. I think of it like ‘hurdles’ - tie up a quote with analysis and repeat, little and often. Coverage is vitally important
