I think ludovico technique gets some of their vocal influence from this.

People with taste in music
Me!!!
Everyone on the planet needs music like this in their lives. Absolute late 80s alternative masterpiece.
Bauhaus-> Tones on Tail-> Love and Rockets... a wonderful evolution. I miss 1989.
someone knows..
One of my favorite years 😁
Don't forget that while Tones On Tail was starting, Peter joined with Mick Karn to create Dalis Car.
Probably more underrated than Peter Murphy's solo career, but Daniel's style so gothic and atmospheric catched another type of audience.... very artistic!!!
Bauhaus was magical
@@jennyboomboom7368 Indeed , so " magic " that when I 1st listened to these projects in the 80s/90s as a late teen I had all but contempt for both parties .
I certainly chose wrong in the divorce. It was years before I recognized where the magic of Bauhaus had come from. Peter's voice is, of course, legendary, and he's a skilled songwriter. But Daniel Ash and David Jay had the magic touch. I can't think of any Peter Murphy songs that still sound as perfect and timeless as songs like this, No New Tale To Tell, Haunted as the Minutes Drag.
That said, Murphy's real genius has always been on stage. If he's up there, you don't look anywhere else. Sorry Daniel.
@@jennyboomboom7368 i couldn't agree more!! ❤
Thanks for giving props to PM solo - so good.
The coolest and most forgotten band of the 80s.
Not forgotten. Charlie Sheen is forgotten. Love and Rockets is not forgotten while I draw breath.
Agreed😊
In 1989, I was a 19 year old man, when I heard this on Radio, here in Melbourne, Australia. I bought the album straight away at a music shop. All these years later as a middle age man, this song is just as great now as it was back then ✔️👍✔️👍✔️
What's the rest of the album like?
I was 22 years old in 1989, and I also loved this song, I remember dancing to it without fatigue.
I was in 5th grade and my classmates all listened to Poison and Warrant, God help me.
@@Robyn-r9s To be honest, I haven't listened to it properly since about 1990/91, however, it was more true Goth music, whereas "So Alive" was reputed to more for Commercial Radio at the time. Nevertheless, still very good.
@@patriciamontenegro7867 It was, and still is, the type of song that's more so easy to listen to as well as easy to dance to. Best rest assured, this one will remain one of those all time great songs.
I don't know how I missed this song back in the day. Luckily for me, I have an awesome radio station that plays awesome music from that absolutely fantastic Era, which is where I heard this from. I'm 65 years old and am STILL listening to the music from back then, and I doubt that will ever change. Everybody should be as lucky as to be born during that time!
This group has a very different and distinctive sound, and has now earned a new fan! This song makes ME feel so alive! I just wish I would have found them sooner!!
The summer of 1989 was kind of epic for me musically- not only did Love and Rockets get a Top 3 smash hit on the American charts but there was Depeche Mode’s 101 live album and film as well - my top 2 favorite bands of all time. I saw Love and Rockets in concert that summer with front row seats (with The Pixies as the opener!) and even met Kevin Haskins earlier that day, before he did an interview for MusiquePlus (Quebec's version of MTV) and was bowled over by what a complete sweetheart he was. When Peter Murphy came though town on his solo tour later that year (with Nine Inch Nails as the opener!) , I also met Peter and he was as kind as you could imagine someone being. A year later I was graduating from high school and skipped prom because I had sold-out-in-15-minutes third row seats for Depeche Mode on the World Violation tour (with Nitzer Ebb as the opener!) and ended up meeting Martin Gore, Alan Wilder and Andy Fletcher after the show outside of their hotel. They were about to go clubbing and Martin invited me along. I ended up dancing with Martin and Alan and even played a round of pool with Fletch! It was such a magical time in my life, full of promise and possibility.
Both bands are on tour now
@SparkJoy I spent about two hours talking to Kevin Haskins backstage after a Peter Murphy show in 2000. He played drums for PM on that tour. I had the same experience, he was super cool and what started as a music conversation just kept going until I had to leave - at the time, I was helping run the video feeds at House of Blues in Las Vegas.
Funny thing...I discovered Bauhaus in Spring of 1983 when I was in 10th grade. Then I went to London on a school trip and it happened to be the week they played their final show, but I had no clue about it. I found out years later that I was there but missed it. He thought that was funny!
@@chrisyost5949 I know! And I've seen them both this past spring/summer! I saw Love and Rockets at the Cruel World festival in Pasadena in May and almost passed out from sheer happiness and giddiness! Saw DM in April and I'm going to see DM again when they return to North America in November. This year has been nuts when it comes to shows! Not only DM and L&R, but The Cure and Grace Jones as well!

Love this song from 1989. Takes me back to my High school senior year. Long live the 80s. Miss those days. Simpler times.
I am 50 and was a teen when this song came out. Always loved this band. My mom (RIP) was watching this video with me once, and said, "Mija, those girls legs are too skinny! Are they sick?"🤣
😂
52 here and remember like it was yesterday. May your Mother rest in eternal peace.
When this album came out I was playing the cassette in the car with my mother one afternoon. She hated it and screamed at me to take it out. When I stopped playing the cassette, So Alive just happened to be playing on the radio station at that moment. She said, “See, now THIS is good music.”

Thank you, 80's still live.
I remember hearing this as a middle school kid during summer vacation in 89. As soon as I heard it I was mesmerized and quickly popped an audio cassette in my one speaker radio/tape recorder and kept playing it constantly that entire summer. Still remember sitting on the floor in my room in the summer heat with just a fan listening to Casey Kasem hosting America’s top 40. Ahh youth!
"and their little dog, named Snuggles"
Scott Briggs uh??🤔
Mike Valdez See: Negativeland song with Casey Kasem bloopers.
Good times but it was no fun unless you had the ladies enjoying the music with you to
Unfortunately age must be affecting your memory. Casey Kasem stopped hosting America's Top 40 in 1988. If you were listening to America's Top 40 in the summer of 1989, it was Shadow Stevens who was hosting it, not Casey. Nonetheless, the summer of '89 was such a magical summer for me. Definitely in my top 3 of all time. So many great songs and movies, while I was vacationing in Salt Lake City that summer.
Sonido perfecto unico y clasico eso le convierte en una leyenda una epoca un tiempo inigualable y se llama 80's. Lo mejor que le paso al planeta
Heard this in a Goodwill a few weeks ago and it’s been living in my head constantly since then. In that moment, I was in 1989. There’s something about this song that’s so hypnotizing.

the last 10 or so bars of this song add yet another layer of depth to an already incredible work of art. nothing like pop and music video direction of the 80s, inimitable.

If by kids, you mean Gen-Xers, then I can answer: Yes- all the time. It's a good thing Numbers here in Houston keeps it real with underground 80s most Fridays. This song did get mainstream airplay back in the day, but radio was better then, as were most things.

I was addicted to this song back in senior high. I played it over and over again. Even now when I hear it I can see why it spent such a long time on the Billboard Top 40. Something very erotic and haunting about the rhythm and the beat.
