      1. i'm not a cleveland browns fan 2. players hold out and get paid I think holding out is rarely not a mistake since it hurts the team and the player holding out (rust)
but you have a small window of getting paid so i can't blame him for trying.

should have played out his contract that way you have leverage.

    • @AK-74K

You should be looking out for yourself, but you gotta be smart about it. If you just had one good season and then act like a diva next year and not show maximum effort on the field, that isn't a good way to maximise your earnings, it's a career killer.

    • @spritzerak4u89

Seisman 75 + He would have no leverage. The will run run run run him to the end of the contract and say his shelf life is up, or he goes out and gets some sort of injury.
Running backs don't have the luxury pretty much every other position has because for the most part they have shorter careers. That season was all the leverage he had to open up extension talks.

At Arkansas he had the best hands on the team. In 3rd and 4th and long situations he was the go-to receiver. I never understood why team didn't use his receiving ability more. I thought he would have flourished with the Patriots because they love a fullback or third-down back who can get the tough yards and catch the ball.

Thing is, he signed a contract. He got paid what the Browns and the league thought he was worth. Just because he was outperforming his contract, doesn't give him the right to protest against the team that decided to take a chance on him.
You are seeing it more and more with young guys, guys coming off "rookie" contracts, complaining and "holding out" cause they feel they are worth more. Like Aaron Donald of the Rams, sitting out the last two preseasons cause he was still on his rookie contract.
I get it... you deserve more, and I agree with you... but BE A MAN and show up for work.

They were giving bumbs top pay and when we finally got someone that was changing the momentum for Cleveland, they shit the bed and didn't pay the man. He was definitely a sight to see for the fans in Cleveland. The true fans appreciate what he did and understand why it ended the way it did. Humans can put their "nose to the grindstone" and work hard to make it to the top. Once he got on the cover of Madden, playing for the Browns, he realized this is the top of the mountain for him. He's not going to win a Superbowl with the Browns. Being on the cover of Madden is a big deal.
Once humans reach their goals, or make it to the top, we tend to get complacent, lazy, content and satisfied. Nothing else to work towards. Once you're at the top anything less feels like the hard work is no longer worth it. A lot of people fall off because the hard work is no longer praised or noticed.

It's not that bad. I've had strep a handful of times in my life that I can remember and simple throat numbing spray will do the trick. I did get mono when I was in maybe 17 and that is much worse - but even then my doctor prescribed me some kind of liquid pain killer to gargle with and that did the trick. If you can handle the feeling of your throat being numb (many people can't and find the sensation intolerable) then even the worst sore throats aren't that bad with medication.

I know people that say mono didn't bother them as bad, but I'm usually bed ridden for a week when I get a relapse. It's crazy how we all are affected differently.

Mostly true, Chris. Certain teams will maintain their places at the top and bottom, but the rest of the league is generally mired in sort of a soup. Every year, a few teams get a couple lucky bounces, a handful of favorable calls, and better health, while others suffer in all these regards. This year, the Giants, Colts, and Seahawks pulled the short straws, while the Eagles, Rams, and Jaguars pulled longer ones. Pundits will talk about how "this team is for real" and such, but at the end of the day, all these breakout players are looking for money, usually from a team looking for a few more pieces for a playoff run.

( barely, but ill take it) and have a bright future at least with Mariota and D.Henry. That all started with new ownership and a Gm who wasnt braindead. Hopefully the browns come around soon as im sick of the Pats/ steelers/ Colts (who are kinda dead now without luck/Manning) running the afc.

Watching Hillis highlights from 2010 is still awesome and enjoyable. Also, it is a typical Browns story in it being so tragic and so weird and unusual. But reporting, getting paid, taking up an important position and then basically refusing to play has to be the worst negotiation tactic ever. If his agent had him do that he should sue him for malpractice, if that was his idea what a horrible thing to do to your teammates. Either hold out, or give it your all one more time and see if the franchise is willing pay you if not move on. But that half in half out is just self destructive because no one can support that, you are a pariah to everyone. Follow that catastrophe with 3 garbage season and then the entire league wants you gone. Wish I knew the real story about his agent’s actions that year. Just too stupid of a tactic with all downside.

That WAS bazaar. I picked up Hillis off waivers early in the 2010 as a Bench "Wait and See" player for one of my Fantasy Football teams. Somewhere midway through the season, I began starting him and he helped lead me to the Fantasy League championship game. The following year he was on my Fantasy Draft radar somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd round I think but someone else grabbed him early. I was kind of kicking myself, but he turned out to be bust for the guy who drafted him!

With his size and style he wasn’t going to last long as a main back. I am always confused by how it seems as though many fans blame Hillis over the Browns’ management. Front Offices gamble on talent all of the time. Sometimes they take care of a player and “overpay” him and get too little back. Sometimes they let a player go and his talent and production benefit another franchise. Sometimes they decide that no one else wants to spend a lot of money on a “big back” with “okay” speed so they undercut/lowball him in negotiations and he “stands his ground” from the advice of his agent. I believe the negotiations and smear tactics broke his love of the team, fans, and game. Remember (or know) that he has been “taking the backseat” throughout his career and sacrificing his body for the betterment of the team. He might have hoped they would have returned the favor.

As a Razorback fan, I can say that Hillis was only a fullback because we had McFadden and Jones for most of his career. He would have been a stud number 1 back in college, and made plenty of amazing plays while still playing his role as fullback
