LOL, I just realized you were asking for our favorites of what you tested. When I was a kid, I loved Twinkies but that was because I wasn't allowed to eat them and could only have them at my friend's house! The chocolate-peanut butter ones look really good, but I'm not going to try them. I don't need any more junk addictions! (Ding Dongs.)

I use to work for Hershey. They cut corners with the chocolate by not adding as much cocoa butter. Most European brands have a larger amount of cocoa butter. That’s what makes the flavor richer. Twizzlers has added more flour to their recipe which is off putting.

In my opinion the American ones are indeed chalky and a lot sweeter.....even the global available bars/candy like snickers, m&m's and twix.
Love the American chips range, though! So much more different flavors and brands than we have here in the Netherlands!

The reason that Hershey's tastes differently than European chocolate like Lindt's is that when Milton Hershey started in the 1800's he had available to him only soured milk, i.e. buttermilk whereas Lindt had sweet milk. This gives Hershey taste tones which have been compared to those which flavor Parmesan, and one gets used to one or the other - thus the divide between the tastes.

Yes, Hershey's is probably THE American chocolate brand, but the standard is generally not that good. Not like, for example, Ghirardelli chocolate, which is from a famous location in San Francisco. Hershey's does do some good chocolate, but the basic bar is not one of them. You're right, it tastes a bit "chalky."

Hershey's chocolate is the worst chocolate on earth. It is made with butyric acid which is found in animal fat and plant oils, bovine milk, breast milk, butter, parmesan cheese, and as a product of anaerobic fermentation (including in the colon and as body odor, and vomit). That's why for me it always has a vomit aftertaste.

3 Musketeers was named that because they came in strawberry and vanilla as well as chocolate. The new hostess twinkies are not nearly as good as they used to be. The new company does not make any hostess cakes very well. The reason Hershey's is not as creamy as other chocolate is because they use milk that has been soured instead of powdered milk like most other chocolate.

Turned out that Hershey's chocolate uses real milk instead of milk powder, while all the European chocolate brands use milk powder. That's why they taste so different.

Hey guys my wife and I love watching your videos. I wanted to suggest some US snacks that Phil might like, even though it sounds a bit 'hail corporate':
Salty snacks: 'US' snack brands unheard of in Europe are Utz and Herr's (and a bunch of other regional ones, I'm sure). Phil should definitely try the Herr's Sour Cream and Onion (with riffles) and I would also recommend that he try their Buffalo Wing Cheese Curls (if you can find them). Herr's also has fantastic Barbeque flavored chips (much better than Lays in my opinion). For Utz, the Old Bay Seasoning Crab Chips are very American and if you can find Ketchup or Dill Pickle flavored potato chips, I'm sure Phil would enjoy their unique flavor or at least comment how its very untypical for Germany. Snyders is available in Germany, but I could never find their Buffalo Wing flavor, or their non-flavored products (pretzel sticks, butter twists, etc.). Their Sour Dough pretzels are tasty, but maybe a bit boring. Cheetos, Sunchips and Frito Lay chips are not available in Germany and might be interesting to try!
Sweet snacks: I don't have a big sweet tooth personally, but some unique American sweets would be the Symphony Bar (I think it's Hersheys) as it has nuts, caramel and is of a better quality than regular Hersheys chocolate. York Peppermint patties are also quintessentially American, as are Peppermints (the hard candy; can't find them anywhere across continental Europe). Boston Baked Beans, Lemonheads, Warheads, Starburst, 100 Grand, 5th Avenue, Peanut Brittle and Root Beer bottles (hard candy) are not easily available on the continent and most used to be very inexpensive and available in small packages. Trader Joes is supposed to have a better 'in-house' version of Reese's peanut butter cups (with dark chocolate) but I prefer the original.
Anyways, keep up the cool videos guys!

Hersey’s chocolate is made with fresh milk, most other milk chocolate is made with powdered milk. That is one of the main differences that Europeans tend to object to. Many Americans like the taste because it is what they grew up with since childhood. Personally I prefer Ghirardelli 60%, a more grown-up chocolate.

    Interesting info:
Mars, Incorporated is an American manufacturer of confections (and other products). MARS made a series of candy bars all coated in chocolate that are slightly different inside than each other. The first is the 'Milky Way' bar (1923) which has nougat topped with caramel. Then there is the 'Snickers' bar (1930) with nougat topped with caramel and peanuts. The simplest is the '3 Musketeers' bar (1932) that has just a whipped chocolate malt nougat. The fourth bar was the 'Mars' bar (1932) which had nougat and toasted almonds in the USA.
The Mars bar was created in 1932 in the English branch of Mars Inc and released in two versions. The European version is actually the USA version of 'Milky Way' bar packaged with the name 'Mars' bar. The European 'Milky Way' bar is actually the USA '3 Musketeers' bar. The USA Snickers bar was sold as the 'Marathon' bar in Europe until 1990 when it became Snickers again. Mars, Incorporated global has companies in various foreign countries and the candy bars have changed to accommodate sizes, contents and labels over the years.
