The other “risky” thing about grafting figs is that if you get a hard frost with dieback to the ground, there goes your prized variety and you are back to whatever rootstock you used. If you root cuttings, they become trees on their own roots and if they die back to the ground, you’ve still got ‘em.
Just bought some Figs from Bass . Super nice guy very knowledgeable and friendly. Tremendous amount of varieties all are super healthy won’t by from anyone else if Bass has that variety. Also has other fruit trees . Petar Bubalo NJ zone 6b .
Just came across your video. I have so many questions for you. I have 72 trees in 18 gallon pots. I overwinter them in a back garage. One of my biggest problems is moving them back and fourth and the root pruning. I’m 68 years old and it’s getting more of a struggle. What do you suggest? I modified a hand cart and it works pretty good but open to ideas. I also have a short season. I’ve lived in NY/NJ my entire life and now living in upstate NY in Rochester.
If you have the resources and plan to garden for the rest of your life, why not invest in a greenhouse or hoophouse? You can provide supplemental heating in the winter months to keep the space above 32 and you’ll never have to move them again. That’s what I’m doing here in CT
First time gardening in Pahrump NV. I have acres in my back yard. I purchased rooted fig cuttings with leaves on it. I thought that I was told to transplant it in the ground and that figs love the sun, so I planted it that evening. Yup, next day leaves were wilted and I think the plant didn't , make it. Someone said to shade it and keep it moist that it may survive because it had good roots. Will it have a chance or should I plan on buying more? Thx
If you’re genuinely up potting it into a larger pot, no problem; do it any time. But if you are going to root prune it and return it to the same pot with some new soil, better wait until the dormant season.
I got a Bass Favorite Fig from Bass and it has the most amazing flavor and ripened for me in Zone 6a/b

I have seen pots that come with little wheels, not sure where you would get them.
