Interesting video, I like the tent - lots of features and lovely colours. As for dogs, I lost my little mutt in February 2022 after 14 years. She pushed herself into every corner of my life and loved camping. She just wanted to be with me, whatever I was doing and wherever. I will miss her forever.
The Boy Scouts who you work with are very lucky young folks! Scouting here in New England while I was growing up a century ago, or so it seems,, started me on a life long love and appreciation of nature and the incredible satisfaction of living and enjoying the outdoor life, wherever you do it!.Hope you and the puppy get back out soon.
I'm quite happy with the fjern gokotta 1, it's not perfect (no tent is) but it's light, well made, easy to pitch and sensibly priced. The 2 looks excellent as well, thanks for the review 👍
Dave, I've got two dogs: one dog hates the rain and doesn't want to go out in it. While the other one, he'd go out in a hurricane. As a dog lover, I would gladly take that dog out in bad weather and just like you, I would do everything to keep him safe
Well done for keeping your chin up and keeping the glass half full! I am not a big fan of that pole structure, so wouldn’t be a tent for me. Keep the good stuff coming Dave
Love your dog, Dave. My husband and I also have quite a few tent. Our recent tent is a gazelle T4. It’s not a hiking tent. We love camping. It’s a home away from home. I enjoy your adventures and info on your camping gear. Ty for sharing.
I love taking my tiny Jack Russell camping with me, in fact you could not stop her from going 😂 She loves to camp, doesn’t mind the weather, and when she’s tired I just pick her up and carry her. Which thankfully isn’t too often as I have a big pack on my back 😂. My dog has her own blankets, but I usually find her in my sleeping bag keeping my feet warn 😅😅
Great first look dave.i,ve used sports pursuit for about 7 years.always had good kit at a good price.looking forward to seeing the tent used in various conditions.
Its basically a less expensive copy of the msr hubba hubba Hubba, which is good for people who like the design but dont have the budget for a Hubba Hubba. Tents like this can be modified to make them stronger with trekking poles (video on my channel of my modified msr elixir 3😉) nice review 👍🏻
@@andrewforward3812 yeah, I meant if you can get it on sale like he mentioned in the video. I noticed on their website it was full price. But it is an exact copy. Personally if I was going to copy an msr design and make it lighter I'd copy the elixir series, much more stable in the wind.
really enjoy your videos Dave , I'm sure you are experienced and responsible enough to know whether its appropriate to take your dog or not. liking the tent but unsure about the inner pole movement.
I had the same idea as you after i saw this on Mick Outdoors channel, "Its maybe a good summer option" So bought this tent for £220 from a company (which I wont name) but sent it back as it had clearly been used as it was full of mud, sand and long hair 🤮 But I did get a full refund with no questions asked. I did get a good look at it before sending it back and I think it needs a few upgrades before companies try and sell if for anywhere near £500. It might just be a marketing ploy used by companies like OEX and DFS where the half price sale is ALWAYS on but I still think at £220 it needs some upgrades. I also didn't realise it was a British company as the name suggests its Scandinavian 🤦🏼♂️ I also get comments about taking my French Bulldog with me but she is happier out with me than left at home and like you, I'd protect her with my life!
Excellent review as usual.yeah dogs just love the outdoors.mine does anyway he’ll sit out in the wind and rain from morning till bed time just wandering around sitting lying down and looking around 😍WOOF!🐕🦺👍.✊🙏❤️👌👊
Great video Dave, very informative and much appreciated, a big thumbs up from deepest Dorset 👍 For me, any tent for U.K. use just has to be a fly first pitch☹️ So it’s back to the drawing board! Once again thanks for all your hard work bringing us this masterpiece 👍
A budget alternative is the Naturehike Vik 2 single skin tent with footprint, it's the exact same design, same weight and is very comfortable for a large person. it's only available in off-white but don't let that put you off, it's superb little tent that will work for 3 seasons no problem, and condensation really isn't an issue due to the excellent vent design. I don't understand the people saying they're not fans of this pole design, it's very stable and quick to erect and is decently wind resistant.
Hi Dave, great first look video, I have this tent and really like it, there's a few vids on my channel about it, you can actually pitch this outer first if you have a groundsheet, I bought a cheap hikeman one and it works. Or you could buy the MSR hubba hubba nx2 foot print as I'm sure that fits but more expensive, as this tent is basically the msr nx2 👍
Thanks Mick, I have seen your first video on this. I will check out your others and the footprint and credit you if i use it on next pitch. How have you found it in any wind?
@Fellmandave1 I was out on the cleveland way in it, but winds only got to 20mph gusts and it was fine, I wouldn't like to comment on its potential in strong winds as that'll probably get me strung up ! 🤣🤣
Great balanced first look, thanks. A 1.5kg tent and roomy for a solo 6’4” camper - interesting, now if they did a compact pole version for bike packing…….
You'll know the experiences your dog has had and what he can deal with. Also what kit you have for your dog will be the difference between what's possible and what is not. Can you remind me what the piece of sleeping kit you have for your dog is? I was going to look as the goretex bivi bag, coat, and blanket for my dog is quite heavy. Given that the tent is nylon, are the given measurements post stretch? I've seen loads of your videos and I enjoy the format. It would be interesting to see a review of the Tarptent Stratospire 2 with SideCar. Looks like a great solution for two people and dog. Looks to be less than 1.5kg all in.
Hi Buddy, that is the dog jerven bag, if you look at my recent special forces gear video, the Jerven bag, there is links on that and shows full use of the dog bag. Get it from wild and moor in the uk.
@@Fellmandave1 thank you! The bag is about half the weight of a goretex bivi bag, although I'm tempted to cut it down to dog size, so it will be about the same, avoiding waste. But thanks for commenting, I am not here for sympathy, just for us all to share our struggles and take the weight off with like minded people. Thanks for taking the time. And don't worry ,Nortent have been brilliant and I will be back with the Verns!
Similar design as the excellent Naturehike Mongar 2, which is a similar 3 season tent in that niche. Timely to remind everyone about dogs during the nesting season (March to July), there’s an abundance of scientific research on the continent which points toward free running dogs having a negative impact on breeding condition ground nesting birds, they don’t have to be caught or even noticed by the dog to make them abandon their chosen nesting site. Ground nesting birds simply won’t nest successfully where dogs run freely, so close control is important in countryside areas of conservation value.😊
Yes Ray, but who can be ars*d with that! So for me an outer pitch too if its looking dodgy. i see this as a summer tent, nice foercast. But, testing to be done first. No double zip is not great, or high up vents.
I dunno if it's normal for this channel but the audio only being in the left channel is really offputting. It should be an easy fix too, just change it to mono in your editing software. Otherwise video seems great, can't find the tent for cheaper than £500 though and I can't get on the other site you mentioned as it won't even let me browse without signing up.
