I purchased the top of the line Kenmore on clearance in 1977 ( it was a 1976 model.) Loved that machine. But in the early 2000s I sent it to Sears in Chicago for service and when it came back it didnt seem to grip the fabric when sewing. I packed it up and gave it to Goodwill. Then one day over ten years later I needed to adjust the screw on top of the machine. Ive since purchased one like it from Ebay. Has cams, a monogrammer which I never used etc. Had 4 separate boxes of attachments. And yes that gentleman was right the buttonhole maker with these machines make wonderful buttonholes.
I got this machine from sears in Mansfield Ohio in the 70s and still have it and it always works as good as new. I sew all the time lol love this machine and it works like an industrial one for me well there's one difference, mine takes cams too
I left my old singer behind when I moved recently. It was too heavy to haul halfway across the states. I just found this one in perfect condition for 20$ at a thrift store in Texas. Thank you for this video!! It’s perfect for learning.
I have one very similar to that. That was my grandmother's very little use. Wonderful machine to great care of it. I've got it sitting on my table with the intention of using it. I've got several other sewing machines singer, class 15s but all of those have got to be restored. Refurbished
Great informational video!I have this exact same model - got it for $5 at a thrift store, the belt had slipped off the pulley - that's why they said it "didn't work" - easy fix! I cleaned it all up and it's been my go-to machine for years now! 158's are great machines.... this one makes exceptional buttonholes with the attachment.
The knob on the top of the machine on the left you can press in on it and it adjust for thickness of material very handy I have to say machine if you are using a lot of thickness you can push the button down it adjust the presser foot so you can go through thicker fabric you need to talk about that it's an awesome feature

I have a 158-14301 and the stitch length control doesn't stay where set and I can't figure out how to get the control knob off to see how I might tighten it up
Thanks for the video, enjoy your videoes. I have the 1803 and the reverse lever is loose, have no resistance to it. how do i fixed it. How fo i tighten it or make it work.. Much blessings
The 158 series Kenmores were made by Maruzen in Tokyo, Japan for Sears. Maruzen later made the Jaguar cars.
158 series machines were made by Maruzen in Japan , which later became what we know as Jaguar , yes the cars .
