- Hey everybody! Today I’m exposing some male fitness influencers since I typically only call out the ladies. In reality, I’m going to share 5 amazing coaches (even more are linked below) and then 5 not so great coaches or influencers you should probably stay away from for various reasons. Let me know your thoughts below!

Dr. Mike Isratael from Renaissance periodization is my favorite. Once i started really following his advice, i had serious improvements in my fitness levels. He doesnt JUST talk about bodybuilding, he also talks about sport specific training and how to ACTUALLY optimize your training for a specific sport without accidentally wasting your time. And his reactions to celebrity training are hilarious! This guy is a gem as far as how his advice actually works. His reaction to Dr OZ is great.
I love Dr. Mike!! He’s so funny too
Yaaasssss!! Me too!!
He's my number 1
My favorite!
Same! Hes so funny too. I also love Dr. Layne Norton
Harry from TFNL is great. Open, honest, vulnerable, and just all about facts. Great if you're looking for info on lifting. He inspired me to lift heavier and I was surprised at how much i could do. Adam Wright is wonderful too, no bs from him. Plus they're both pretty amusing, that helps too.
Well said!
Harry’s recent video on his mental health was very … wow. Gave me chills. Don’t know him but so proud of him
I like him too, but I get a little annoyed that he pretty much only reviews women. I think he might have recently done a video on v shred (or it might have been someone else who did, I feel like several people suddenly did videos on him at the same time) but like everyone knows that guy is an idiot. That's my only qualm with Harry. There are plenty of male influencers out there taking steroids and pretending they got their results just from the gym and Harry never talks about them, or at least I never see him do it. Maybe it's because his audience is mostly female, but I think it's important to address the guys too!
@@MB-vi8zp I know that reaction/comment channels are a thing--and it's his thing--but after watching him critique workouts by all these female trainers, I just gotta give side eye to that sort of conent because he's really just doing the absolute littlest. Meanwhile, those female trainers, regardless of what you think about the style of training, are putting in a helluva lot more work to offer free workouts and to help people. I'd like to see him put in some work and put a bit of his training content online (even to just prove that he is an actual trainer).
I like him too!!! I do think he should expand to include others beside women. Some times
It comes off as condescending even though I realize he’s not a problematic male commentator at allllll !!!
the way I cracked UPPPPP when she said “your craving the nurturing of your father” stopppp be so fr
brett contreras is always winking at us in a creepy, power trippy way. he's like, "look at how i am getting away with sexual harassment."
Yeahhhh he gives me weird vibes.
His ex-fiance made a video about him years ago...
@@Oscarnodwannabe do you have a link?
@@idreamofpeony ua-cam.com/video/usvOZK7PD7g/v-deo.htmlsi=pjjKtN5vDVNfgV1w
She mentioned it in a podcast. I think a Reddit post may have the link.
I adore Ben Carpenter and am so glad he made your list of mentions! One of the things I like most is when he does a longer form reel or video in response to another video because I learn so much!!!
Yes he's fantastic!
Yes he’s brilliant! Just got his book
Jordan Syatt has honestly changed my entire outlook on fitness :)
I love his approach to fitness!
Brett has his HANDS ALL OVER THAT WOMAN… like, why?! Get your hands off of her. You don’t need to touch her to accomplish anything you’re doing in this video clip. Your coaches shouldn’t be touching you! If they do, they better damn well ask for permission. I’ve been taken advantage of in this exact same way, and it’s just an awful spot to be in. Any coach putting their hands all over their clients is a GIANT red flag for me, regardless of how educated they are.
Anyway, as always, this was a great video. Thank you, Justina!
He probably has consent (I would hope), but I agree. You shouldn't need to be SO handsy with a client.
100 percent, he was making me very uncomfortable touching that woman's butt
I agree. I don't like the way he is touching the person he is training. It's really unsettling.
I touch my clients to cue them. I ask them. Every trainer is not the same
It made me uncomfortable.
I’m craving the energy of my father with extra olives
Hahahahha
I saw this comment before I watched the video & was bamboozled to see the context in which it came up 😂😂😂
Ahhhhhh, the Brett guy is so touchy!!! And I know some people say that he hopefully/probably has a consent from his clients... but you know what - if I had a super famous trainer and he asked me if I am okay with sometimes being touched, my little ashamed non-assertive myself would internally refused BUT I would still say yes. So consent isn't always a consent. Power imbalance.
Totally a possibility!
I don’t eat oats anymore because they give me acid indigestion personally but that does NOT mean anyone else should stop eating them! I passionately hate these “one size fits all” diet ideologies. Everyone is so different and you should listen to and do what is best for your own body.
I know this is an old video, but I'm watching it now and OMG the clip with 'you're craving the energy of your father' made me crack up so much I had to stop the video and laugh for a full few minutes cause what the hell lmao.
I LOVE what Adam said about the "We all start with 24 hours" thing. It's such entitled B.S and I love to hear people calling it out.
Hi Justina. I've been following your content for a while and I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you and your approach to fitness and wellness. You are an inspiration! ❤
I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE HERE!
The only male fitness influencer I consistently follow is biolayne. I've learned from him that a single study is really not that much to get excited about, it's the meta analyses that are more interesting and are showing what we find across multiple studies. Also, it's much harder for an average Joe to just read a study and understand perfectly what it was trying to research, how it was performed, and what conclusion it supports and doesn't support.
I gotta look him up!
@@JustinaErcoleDr Layne Norton is the Sht! And you are really knowledgeable as well, great content ❤
Hampton from hybrid calisthenics.. He's so gentle and he's so good and providing modifications
Thank you for the recommendation!
I know I am late but YES! He helped me getting to my first push up - now I am at 7 with proper form. On my way to my first pull up now, still a long way to go. ❤
Yes! Jordan and Harry are both so entertaining with really great content!
You clickbaited me so well with Jordan's picture and that title, well played lady, well played.
Hahaha I knew this thumbnail would get people 😂
Wow I can't believe I finally found a fitness influencer who actually talks about mental health and other boundaries to fitness. We are all on a journey to be as healthy as possible and the negativity in the community is holding us back!
I’m so happy to have you here!! ❤️
Wow, I wish I had seen this video when you first posted. I've been trying to get consistent with workouts for the first time and the first "coaches" I tried were the guys who basically yelled at me for being fat and not being in the gym everyday. I found your channel by accident and felt much more at home and accepted.
Couple of names I've not seen mentioned:
Eugene Teo - like his calm, measured approach
Jonni Shreve - knows his way around a gym. Friend of Greg Doucette but take him on his own merits!
Also follow many of the names mentioned in the comments; too many to watch everything each of them produces and don't necessarily agree with everything they say, but they mostly have at least something to learn from. This video actually gave me a couple of new names to follow, thanks!
Sean Nalewanyj is someone I've followed for a few years. Plain, simple, informative with why in laymens terms which I love. So glad he made it on your list.
Great to hear!
I get creepy vibes from some of these dudes. So many of them seem obsessed with butts. It's so odd.
RIGHT??
What are your thoughts on Hampton from hybrid calisthenics?
Never heard of it!
Hampton is so good, so many adaptable exercises and I love his positivity.
I promise, you'll love him!
I love the way you look realistically at the fitness industry. Icon.
Thank you!
Josh Brett is my latest find for the positive category! Thanks for all the recs 😊
He has great content!
I NEED MORE OF THESE!!!!!!!!
I'm kind of happy that the Brent Contras blinders are finally coming off. It's like nobody remembered that disgusting blog post he wrote 10+ years ago about training women. I was just a fitness newbie then, but it really gave me a quick education on the red flags to look out for!
And maybe he's changed his mindset in 10 years, but i haven't heard him address it.
His whole thumbnails is a no go
An excellent list Justina! I second the 👍for Dr Mike Israetel (Renaissance Periodization), Jordan Syatt, the Bioneer and Jeff Nippard. A couple of people from the UK not mentioned as far as I can see are James Lister of Shredded Sports Science (his take downs of snake oil salesmen like V Shred are hilarious) and Joe Delaney (someone else with a very dry sense of humour but anyone from the USA will need the captions on to understand his Liverpool accent!😂). On a side note, I have followed Sohee and Ben Carpenter individually for ages but thought they were just "collaborating"! (I suppose they kinda were...😉)
Great suggestions!
5:25 FUN FACT: The "energy of your father" lady Ben Carpenter is reacting to is the CEO of Scentbird (who you may have seen advertised through many UA-camrs). I literally just hopped off a video detailing her belief in the Matrix and some other interesting stuff... Just sharing because that was a weird coincidence and I have learned a lot.
OMG NO WAY IM DOING A DEEP DIVE NOW
I liked how long this video was! Cant wait for part 2? (Hopefully???)
:)
I thoroughly enjoy your content and no nonsense approach to fitness!
thank you!
100000 cheers for Harry at TFNL!!!!!!! I really like Sean Nalewanyj and Obese to Beast as well. Thank you for sharing the gems. I have new people to follow! Bret really influenced me regarding glute training and was so helpful. BUT...he is very, um, "handy" with his fitness models in the videos. I stopped following after observing that.
Harry is the best!
Hi Mary! I made sure Harry saw all of these comments, thank you!
@@austinhenshaw2140 Thanks Austin!
Thank you for the video, always love new reccomendations!
also I love that you are a supporter of body neutrality/[see: maintenance phase], but I would love to see more neutrality/less jokey comments about someone being on drugs. Thats something that also needs to be destigmatized :-)
Totally fair criticism! I can definitely do better there ❤️
I'm here from your video about Oprah, lol!
I already follow most of the good influencers you mentioned, will definitely check out your list of other people to follow - I follow Harry from TFNL, and he's awesome! His workout guides are also great, I would definitely recommend him (I see I'm not the only one, lol)
thank you for watching another video!
Dude, this was super - informative! So Glad I subbed to your Channel!!
I'm so happy to have you here!
Hey Justina, thanks for this. It's always good to know who's the best to follow and who to avoid. I see a lot of garbage here on UA-cam, as well as bits and pieces from Tiktok and Insta, and I question the practices. I tend not to follow to many of these "influencers", simply because what I see some of them do is just plain ridiculous. Love from London ❤
I’ll be in London in a few days! Thanks for watching ❤️
Omg I love your content so much! I have been interested in fitness since childhood so I’ve seen a lot over the years (not sure if you’re old enough to remember the whole “boot camp”/tai bo crazes back in the day?) At one time it was SO incredibly difficult to find people (real people, not fake personalities or caricatures) involved in fitness that I could relate to. My God… I wonder how many people have been turned away from healthier living due to not finding people they can actually relate to. 😔
I have never been the type of person to get inspired or motivated by real-time coaching or workout partners. Tried but it wasn’t for me. I’m accountable to myself. But watching inspo like yours and a couple of these guys really hit the mark for me.
So tl;dr THANKS!! 🙏🏽 You’re appreciated.
And YES! You’re definitely not the only one who sees these guys trying to tell women how to workout, eat and how to shape our bodies verrrrry specifically. 😒
You're so welcome!
Never heard of Jordan but what he said about IF is terrific. I was skipping meals (fasting) at 11 years old to lose weight so I know it's just a way to reduce caloric intake and Dr Fung has made a fortune selling it.
Jordan is great! Highly recommend :)
As far as dudes, I am interested in what you think of Athlean X and Chris Heria.
As far as women, I am curious what you think of Keltie O'connor and LivFiit.
I'm so bad at knowing male coaches haha so I really don't have an opinion on those two. In terms of Keltie, I thinks he's super entertaining but don't love that she's supported (and recommended) people like Lilly Sabri, who has some of the worst marketing out there IMO. And LivFiit is such a bundle of joy! Love her stuff.
Never come across Adam before, but that video was just brilliant!
I love Ben, he’s so no BS. Just bought his book.
Dude. Do NOT come for my oatmeal.
I like James Linker from Shredded Sports Science. He's got a good sense of humor, and I think his advice on supplements is very refreshing. Also, Hampton from Hybrid Calisthenics.
thanks for sharing!
I agree, those two are amazing!
I don't even understand how anyone could think ANYONE only has sleep and work as a priority over the gym. Don't these people shop for food, cook and do the dishes and eat three times a day? What about cleaning, the laundry, having a family and friends or having hobbies? You can find time for the gym, but it's still time you are taking from doing something else and there is ALWAYS something to do. Not finding the time doesn't mean you are laying down on your couch 50 hours a week even if you don't juggle children, multiple jobs and care for a sick parent...
Oooo can't wait for this one!
enjoy :)
So happy to see Jordan Syatt !! He in my opinion is just so honest and his methods are the best and sustainable.
I love him!
@@JustinaErcole me too. 1 of the best decisions I made was joining the IC with him and Susan.
I really enjoy watching MattJFit and HybridCalisthenics. Both explain stuff in a simple way while being inlcusive towards different body types and different levels of difficulty.
I have a video on Hybrid Calisthenics coming out this month!
@@JustinaErcole Uhh, I'm excited :-)
Loved this video. You made it so fun! Also very happy you like Jordan Syatt cause I think he’s hilarious and glad his videos are good/informational
I love his energy
Love this, thanks Justina!
I'm so happy you enjoyed!
I discovered weight lifting through Bret Contreras' book, Strong Curves. It's how I lost weight and have kept up a consistent workout routine at the gym. I enjoyed the simplicity of having it all mapped out for me. I've been following his routines for years, but I do think that's it's so glute focused & I want to have a more balanced routine. I'm currently reading Thinner, Leaner, Stronger. Do you have any other recommendations of what I should look into? I realize that I have only followed workout routines by male fitness coaches because the female fitness influencers I've seen focus on shit I don't like, such higher reps, cardio, & just watching their videos & following along with their routines. I enjoy your channel so far because unlike what I've seen with a lot of female influencers, you seem to keep it real.
Hey! I've done some interviews on here with female identifying coaches who have a similar approach to me, but I'd also look into Sohee Fit, Tara LaFerrera, and Charlee Atkins :)
I'd be interested in your opinion of BioLayne. I've never seen anything that he posts that seems contradictory to your approach to nutrition and fitness, but it would be interesting to see if there's any red flags I've missed.
Honestly never heard of him! Gotta go look him up :)
Layne Norton is the real deal. Super science guy. Solid content. A great follow, IMO.
Love this list, gotta check a few out that I never heard of before.
It seems you’d like the Mind Pump guys. Sal, Justin, and Adam. They do oversell things but their fitness advice seems solid.
I used to listen to their podcast a lot! Sometimes I feel like our values don't totally align though on the political spectrum and it kind of turned me off :)
@@JustinaErcole same. I think they’ve become more progressive now compared to the past, but o usually scroll over those parts and just listen to stuff like the main topic of the day, listener live segments, and Q and A stuff
Great video Justina! Love Jordan and Harry. Do you know Greg Douchette? He has called out V Shred and Casey which Im for but he's a little loud for me 😉
haha he's also a little loud for my taste, but I respect him for staying true to his personality.
😂😂 Loud is an understatement.....I do follow coach Greg though I think he has some good informative content
@@JustinaErcolehe reminds me of an amped up Gilbert Gottfried (RIP) - knowledgeable but kind of abrasive.
Great work!
I used to work at a Fancy Juice Store in LA (hawking eating disorders for minimum wage, not my proudest moment) and I had a co-worker who was SHOCKED when I showed her with a quick google search that the Medical Medium is not an MD
Holy shit that Tanner Shuck guy scares me!
Also I know Fitness Blender is a husband/wife team but Daniel Segars is great!
I love Daniel!
Agreed with everyone on the list. Superb recommendations 👍
V shred doesn't go away, does he? The only good thing he did is unite the entire fitness industry against him.
hahahah very true
I love me some Jeff Nippard!
love that!
Ive gotta throw in my vote for Harry TFNL like others here. I also like Jeff Nippard his stuff is always backed up with science. Entertainment wise i do enjoy Jesse James West, i know his content is not meant to be informative but he's still a male fitness influencer. There were some in this vid i've never heard of so thanks for the heads up....i trust your judgement girl! 😉
Great people!
Haven't even watched yet, already smashing the like button.
thank you friend :)
Great Content as always! Plenty o Value! 🦅🦅🦅
Always here for your takes and recommendations! Would love to hear what you think of Tom Merrick; I started following him during the pandemic when he posted an at-home calisthenics program. Now I mostly following him for his mobility/flexibility content. I would love to know your opinions on his approaches to flexibility/mobility. It’s different than a lot of stuff I’ve seen
never heard of him! gotta give him a google.
This was a great video, that 3rd guy on the bad side 😂 can we say crazy eyes 👀😅
Right!!
Have you done a video on your opinion on intermitten fasting? And maybe follow Steve Cooke or Erica Fit Love?
My favorite influencers are in no particular order Liver King, Kyriakos Grizzly, Jujimufu, Jack PGM and Dom Mazetti. At least when it comes to pure entrainment value.
I would love some recommendations for female fitness influencers that are LEGIT helpful and have fitness knowledge, and not just... Posing IG masters and booty-angle content creators. Cause Instagram seems to only push male created content and booty posing ads sadly

Would love to hear your opinion on Will Tennyson and Greg Doucette
I don't know Will, but I think Greg has some good content. That being said, he's just not my cup of tea :)
@@JustinaErcole I totally agree on Greg, just too harsh sometimes I feel like. I can recommend Will tho, he's got the same type of humour as you or Jordan.
I’m surprised no Athlean X. I like him the most especially since he discusses what not to do in fitness that will get yourself injured. He also looks like someone who is (with years of workout discipline) naturally developed.
Love your content 😊
Thank you! 😁
I've heard of Vshred in passing, but never actually saw a video of him. He just seems to talk in circles. First he demonises cardio, the he says you have to do something you enjoy and he follows up saying he could help you lose weight with a cardio programme.
THIS
😢I'm a bit sad now. I've been following Vince sant and his programs for 6 months now and am seeing results. Any results I haven't seen are my fault cause I'm not good at sticking to plans yet, but are his plans as bad as him?
Hey! First of all, don’t feel sad. You’ve been consistent on a program that’s providing the results you want, and that’s HUGE! You should be so proud of yourself. That being said, VShred has some very manipulative and shady business practices. I think it’s a good thing to be aware of, but there’s no judgment on my end for sticking with it since it’s helping you ❤️
V Shred is a joke. All marketing.
100%!
would be interested to hear your thoughts on thomas delaur
Jason and Lauren Pak are amazing! I recently started following them and I absolutely love their content. Harry and Obese to Beast are great too. My top favorite(s) male “influencers” though are the guys from MindPump! Highly recommend them to everyone!
Oh yes, MindPump was my go-to for a long time!
Layne Norton is also very good…on the bad side is Bobby Parrish
thanks!
Thank you so much for all the information. It is so hard to tell who is legit. As mentioned by others I do like Harry from TFNL. I use to watch some videos from Eric Berg but he was so full of information it was overwhelming and thought he may know what he is talking about because he is a doctor....then I found out he is a Chiropractor...I stopped following. I will check out the ones you have mentioned. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Love Ben Carpenter.
He's so great!
I agree with all but bret Contreras. He is about glutes but he's also about getting females freaking strong. He started the strong lifting federation and holds competitions. Growing glutes gets many women in the door to lifting heavy (including myself) but you grow to do more😊
I stand with victims of abuse.
Thanks for this video. There's so much toxicity in the world of fitness in UA-cam (and in real life, tbh)
I'm stil lol'ing at the whole "craving the Energy of your father" thing
I still haven't gotten over that lol
@8:31 don't care how we do it? Isn't that part of his job to help clients find healthy eating habits to achieve their goals?
Great video! But not liking Brett Contreras for specializing in female’s glutes feels like not liking a female andrologist/urologist or a male obgyn
Women’s glutes are literally the same as men’s glutes…..
Also, the way he touches his clients is uncalled for. And there are plenty of abuse allegations against him. So those three things are enough for me.
Omg I love Adam!
He’s great!
Based on the placement of her husband and ex I think Sohee would love this video lol
Hahaha I bet she would!
What do think of James Smith?
Never heard of him! Gotta Google :)
I like Bobby Parish and his recommendations
Ohhhh…. so, I have celiac because my dad was never around? That explains so much!
Wow also hormonal acne guy has no clue what he’s talking about 😂
I love this kind of content but I do automatically cringe thinking about the negativity that this type of video invites for you and any other female creator who dares to call men out on their BS. I hope the idiots are minimal in your comments and most the feedback is positive, and I completely agree (esp about 'the glute guy' .. he has always given me the ick and when the 'allegations' came out I was like yeah that tracks lmao). I shouldn't even have to say this in the first place, but thanks for being a bada$$ (as always) and making this video.
I'm ready for the hate if it comes. I (almost) never post anything I'm not 100% ready to defend :)
Glad to see Ben Carpenter on there - he definitely keeps it real!
He’s great!
Omg thank you. I've always thought Brett Contreras was so creepy and I'm like.. why do these women want to work with him
Hope is not a strategy.
What about MINDPUMP?
I like their podcast a lot!
I appreciate your viewpoints on all of the influencers you covered! I am not familiar with Brett Contreras as a trainer or person in general; however, I disagree with you about his speciality in women’s fitness (namely glutes) being inherently creepy. With that argument, do we assume male gynecologists, breast surgeons, mammographers, plastic surgeons specializing in breasts, glutes, etc. are all inherently creepy? Of course some of these men may have poor character, and/or act inappropriately throughout their life, we can’t assume their career choice or speciality is inherently indicative of their character. Again, always appreciate your opinions and look forward to your next video!
Here's the difference: male glutes and female glutes are the same. So why would you need to specialize in ONLY women's glutes?
I see where you’re coming from for sure. Perhaps he (or others) want to specialize in flutes and women are the bigger target audience or on the flip side, he wants to focus on women’s fitness and many of his clients are interested in glute growth. We have to understand where the motivation is coming from.
That's the problem though. He has never (to my knowledge) been clear about his motivation. We can totally agree to disagree! It's simply really icky feeling to me.@@mhlovelygirl13800
@@JustinaErcoleI’ve watched a lot of his content and he talks about how he became fascinated with glutes in high school when he wanted to build his own, and he never mentions that training is different for men and women, just that women tend to be far more motivated to build their glutes, and women are the majority of his clients. Oftentimes, he mentions that men are reluctant to train glutes and that they could really benefit in an athletic sense from doing so. The women he trains in person tend to be long-term clients of his who specifically are building their glutes to participate in bikini competitions, so they are very familiar with each other, and I don’t think he goes around touching people without their consent. I like that he stands up for women who do want to build their glutes more than other body parts, unlike a lot of male trainers who think women should all train their upper bodies as much as they do, and that glute-focused exercises are “stupid”. I’m not saying we should all be die-hard fans of his or that we can know everything about him, but he is considered one of the leading experts in research on glutes and from watching a lot of his content personally, I think he encourages both men and women to train their glutes effectively if that’s something they wish to do.
You can be an expert in something and still be a creep.
i know this isn't the point of the video, but i can't stop thinking about 5:40
lady, what do you mean with THE ENERGY OF MY FATHER?????
hahahaha RIGHT??
I'm curious to compare Carnivore MD theory to the actual diets of actual champions (i.e Super Bowl champions, Athletics 100m male and female champions, etc.). Something tells me a >0% amount of real champions eat Oatmeal, invalidating that particular claim.
On a far sillier note, Vince Sant's porn stache was...a choice. Why he'd ever deviate from clean shaven is beyond me.
I never heard of any of these guys. You shall comment on Coach Greg Douchette.
I think Greg adds a lot of value but he simply isn't my cup of tea. Nothing wrong with that!
Love Eric Roberts ❤ he has helped me so much and he genuinely wants to help people, can highly recommend him ❤❤
Love that!
Yay! V Shred in the thumbnail, I knew he’s problematic, his ads are all over UA-cam
he's the WORST
Oh god I’d that numbnut still around, he’s such a doofus idiot that knows nothing.
The last guy talking about "getting your cycle" I audible rolled my eyes lol. I get content from Adam all the time, and yes, his reviews are short and acertive. I used to watch Harry from TFNL a lot, but he too nice and kind for my taste, I like a little sas on my content. Great video as always!
thanks!
Can you do Greg Doucette?
Possibly!
@@JustinaErcole good! Renaissance Periodization would be good too I love him!
Ooh please do weight watchers one!
when i have the time to do all that research, I absolutely will one day :)
I like Cory from Redefining Strength.
I’ll look them up!
Renaissance Periodization (Dr. Mike Israetel), very fun and tons of different fitness content. I found his videos on doing Hypertrophy training while training for sports extremely eye opening.
thanks!
Jonny Shreeve is great!
