Salve la guardo per la prima volta dall'Italia ed è un vero piacere vedere con quanta maestria realizza gli incastri a coda di rondine. Grazie per condividere la sua esperienza da cui trarre insegnamento. Hello, I'm watching it for the first time from Italy and it's a real pleasure to see how masterfully it makes dovetail joints. Thank you for sharing your experience to learn from. Greetings

not sure what I respect more, your choice of cereal or your woodworking skills. Both are on point.

Well - once again something new. never considered that a dozuki could allow dovetails with the timber horizontal. Tried that with my rather neat western dovetail saws and it was a no go, the hand grip was challenging. Another interesting assert I could watch the dozuki from the cut start side , helping arrest wander.
One last thing - instead of jigsaw for the waste, made too shallow cuts to cut out some of the waste. Did aim right at the bottom corners - just neat them. A small bit of the waste is directly cut out this way, but it also seems to make it easier to chiselm out what remains.
    Eagerly awaiting part 2.

Was facing the same problem (so far only in theory) about the long panels with dovetails that don't fit in the moxon Vise. Like your solution a lot!

I appreciate the details about keeping the inner walls square, as well as your personal method of marking the spacing of the dovetails. Both things that I haven't heard much comment about though they are really pretty important 😊 looking forward to part 2!

Biggest thing I've seen on why people hate Japanese saws is because they grip them way to tight. I barely hold onto mine and just let the saw do the work and I've got much better results than a westerm saw. I absolutely love Japanese saws by a mile

Thanks for posting this. I haven’t been able to nail the dovetail joint yet (getting close!) but I still managed to learn something new and useful here. Can’t wait to see part 2, really appreciate your teaching style!

Thank you for posting this. Your style of explanation seems to make things very clear. I still struggle with dovetails, so I’ll stick with my smaller projects for now. You have inspired me in that I’m less fearful of bigger projects. Knowing that even “the masters” make mistakes is free-ing. If that’s a word. Well, it is now. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to make this video!!

Cereal boxes the unsung hero of the workshop. Nice explainer of your method. I have the same Razorsaw Duzuki and it's a problem solver for awkward joints.

I use a duzuki saw to cut my dovetails. And chop out with chisels of course my little boxes are much more manageable.

Great video, certainly not draw sides. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge.
To experiment with the pull saw is expanding the orchestra.

Did you create a knife line to guide your western saw for the mitre cut? Always something to learn from your videos and they are entertaining too. Thank you for sharing

Do you have a video showing your technique for repairing dovetail mistakes ? If not could put a video together

Is there a reason why you didn't create a knifewall before sawing the miter?

I get better results sawing close to the knife line and paring to it with a paring block than trying to saw directly on the knife line.

What are your thoughts about using a saw guide for dovetails?

I've never used them as I was concerned they'd slow the development of my sawing skills. That said, I don't begrudge others using them for critical joints, or just to get started. Whatever works!

Hey, why 1:8 for oak? Im from Europe so 99% of my wood will be oak ;)

    • @themountaintopjoinersshop8422
      @themountaintopjoinersshop8422  8 місяців тому +2

It's somewhat of a tradition to use lower angles like 1:8 for hard woods like oak and higher angles like 14° for soft woods like pine, the theory being that short grain of the tails is more likely to crack and break loose during glue up with harder woods.
