All of this is great advice and technique. I also bother to finish the drawers, but mainly for the purpose of preventing the wood from having seasonal movement that causes sticking... unless it's plywood shop furniture, of course. Looking forward to your future content!

Always a treat. Loved the bench work holding segments. Thankful for you haring all the details you give your work.
The choices Veritas has for smoothing planes is daunting. They have the bevel up and small bevel up. Then the 4 and 4 1/2. I want the bevel ups and can use a Stanley 4 1/2 for difficult but beautiful grain.

That's pretty much how I clean up drawers and boxes. Except that I always have to hunt for a support plank. I never manage to keep a big piece of timber like that around, it always gets used!

Thank you for this very nice video on cleaning up hand-cut dovetails. I especially like the technique of using a combination of a bench hook and a vise to hold the workpiece.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Your method of explaining things is so clear and unambiguous. It gives me the confidence to know that I, too, could maybe someday do a decent-looking hand cut dovetail drawer. Why do I let that intimidate me so??? Anyway, my real question is something you mention in the video. You said you used to have a crochet hook on your bench, and now you have the leg vice. Is there something inherently better about the leg vice? I feel I could build my new bench with a hook to start, then maybe do the leg vice later, or is it that difficult to install the leg vice? I'm just curious for your input on the efficacy of one vs the other. The crochet hook intrigues me for it's historical application, but a leg vice seems more versatile in the long run.

The leg vise is a huge improvement by virtue of capacity, versatility, and clamp-ability. The only thing the crochet excels at, other than being very low cost,, is edge planing operations.

The stop is a bit superfluous (in that the vice resists the forward motion of the workpiece, and the sticking out piece of wood is only under vertical .....downward.......pressure), but otherwise, this is much how I do mine, and, funnily enough, exactly what I was doing this morning. My variation is that I put the rear edge of the drawer in the vice, and support the forward end of the drawer with the sticking-out batten. Your sloped vice wouldn't be suitable for my approach, I don't think, but it's a trivial detail. Another approach I have used is to stand a saw horse under the overhang of the bench, with a drawer sitting on it but held in the vice. Doesn't work with my new bench.

Great video, thank you. Are you using the Veritas bevel up smoother?
