I don't have the funds for a jet like this but I always enjoy watching your content. Your wife does a great job with the camera. Great flying Jon, AirHammer out!!
After watching you set yours up, i went ahead and started removing all the weight possible to make up for the tail weight i will have to use. Magnets out of the nose removed and nose glued on with the freewing elephant snot, removed pilot and screws, removed screws from the mixing boared mounts, removed airbrake mechanism, and changed to agfrc servos for the canards that are, unexpectedly, 8 grams lighter then stock. All this saved me 80 grams with half of that weight up front. Stock servos had the left canard servo with a bad potentiometer that alreadt has a warenty replacement coming, but i want to fly it this weekend. Im using all the mixing for take off canards and airbrakes from your last vid. I totally agree that the landing gear retracts are crazy slow . Would be cool if freewing sent out an updated mixing board to fix it. Thank you for all the good content.
Anytime man! You should hop in our Discord server, we'd love to see you in there. And consider slapping one of our stickers on a model you want to crash to get rid of it - because if you film it, we'll toss it on the channel and highlight it as part of a community crash reel. ;) Nice work with the mods! Which servos for the canards did you pick up? We were considering the B13DLMs as replacements.
@@TwoBrosRC i dont know, i lm too good for crashing😅 but i will see what i can do. Using the b11dls. On paper, they are .3kg to .9 kg beefier then the stock ones. The sheet for thebstock ones doesnt specify if their number is when running on 4.8 or 5v. Will see how they do. See you on discord.
B11DLS perform best at 6v, but they should outperform the stock servos even at 5v and still be significantly more precise. Be sure you use your Calvin avatar so we know who you are!
did the maiden on my typhoon and all your setup suggestions were spot on. That canard trim button is genious. I added another ten grams in the back on top of that included 28, running spektrum 5000 100c at 680 grams, allows cg to be 35mm behind stock without pylons and missiles. Can get 55mm when the pylons, missils and bombs are added. I was feeling good with 40mm and will slowly get it further back. This bird felt so comfortable on the maiden that i went ahead and started doing low level high alpha passes. Tons of power, great presence, and lihv 5300 are next to try out. Also loving those loaded rolls. Im pretty sure this will never do a cobra 😅 Felt like it was lacking in pitch authority. Need those full span elevons. Maybe it will unlock after cg goes further back. Thanks for another great flight review that is spot on
A bad Spektrum Rx caused mine to crash into the wall during setup 🤦. When the radio signal turned off it would spontaneously go to full throttle until the battery was unplugged. Anyway the damage wasn't too bad and it flew perfectly today in the maiden!
I would love to see a thorough review of the 8s set up. Not just 'wow' that's fast but what sort of 'punch' it has from slow flight straight into the vertical considering its extra weight penalty! Thanks again for your comprehensive reviews
We aren't currently considering any 8 cell setup for this jet as it already flies nose heavy on 6 cells - 8 cells would add a ton of wing loading and nose heaviness and ultimately hurt its acro performance while doing nothing but adding more thrust. That might change in the future, but for now we're not planning it currently.
You're just full of useful content!!🤩 Waiting on Callie for some custom graphics for an 8S EuroFighter myself. My flying buddy Rudy (my brother from another mother since neither of us has a 2nd brother like you 😊) finally maidened his 8S two days ago. He has it set up with something like 16 channels with a 10 channel AS3X and an expander and a lot of over the top settings and it flew outstanding, more so on 2 HiV 4S 4400's than on 2 5300's (which was still OK). I'll be doing the same eventually when all components come in, but may even try 2 4S HiV 3600's. He gets at least 4:00 on the 4400's. Unfortunately he got overly cocky on the 4rth flight, hi alpha-ed about 10 feet off runway, went into a hover, and ended up pancaking on grass runway after flipping it over. Not much damaged but enough to force him into getting a new fuse. I'm especially interested to learn from you that we can go 40-60mm behind the wing marks. Thanks for doing what you do, an objective reviewer is priceless. 🤗
Hi Jon, I'm currently running my "Phoon" on Gensace 4400mah 40c packs and the poor things are suffering, I'm looking to get myself some SMC packs and was thinking of the 5300 LIHV packs for a minute or so extra flight time, I know I'll need about 40g tail weight to achieve my current CoG as they're about 50G heavier but as I fly more scale (mainly high G Turns, fast passes, cruising and a little high alpha) and I'm not too worried about all out agility do you think the airframe will handle the extra 90-100 grams of weight well? Love the vids and your attention to detail keep up the good work.
14:00 I get wanting it for performance, and how the real EF2K could turn on full span trailing controls when necessary, but also it is technically authentic to the full scale for the primary controls to be the 50% elevons. On the scale of capability vs scale, which is more preferred out of model Jets?
Does it come with reverse thrust? Which would you buy the high-performance 90mm or the arf kit? I prefer MKS servos so I kinda doubt I'll leave the servos that come with it unless you think they're good enough. Love those afterburner lights and the speed brake helps like you said level it out. You're one hell of a pilot. Yeah up there in Cary NC that place has 4 kits I want and there all are arf warbird kits. It's just that 100 miles I hate.
Okay cool, I agree the landing is extremely slow. I like the jet $659 I just think the flight times make it not worth buying. I'm still going to get but I think it will be the arf model. It'll cost me a little more but I think it might be worth it. I guess I'll have to wait and see what I do.
We feel that flight quality is more important than flight time. We would rather fly a much less nose heavy jet for 3-4 minutes over flying a very nose heavy jet for 4-6 minutes. If you prefer an extra minute or two, you can run SMC 6200 HV packs. This will increase flight time significantly at the cost of much more wing loading and a nose heavy CG, making the jet more resistant to control inputs.
What do you define as a loaded roll? And how does it differ from a barrel roll? I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything definitive, I've only just barely dabbled in rc planes with small warbirds but play lots of flight games and you're the first I've ever heard use the term. I don't wanna start throwing these terms around myself without knowing what they are, and i don't want to sound dumber than I already do...
It's actually crazy. For 700$ they seemingly prioritized "scale" things like lights and airbrake and even through in ordinance. Total contrast to the F22 where for almost as much cash you get proper flaps included. It's clear where they prioritized pure flight performance over scale features. At the end of the day it's a preference thing. It still flies very nicely tho 👌
Great flights and setup advice, but I was disappointed that there was no cobra maneuver attempts as these delta wing models like the Rafale excel in. I agree that the included 20 gram ballast tail weight and the added weight of an afterburner is necessary to get the center of gravity further back on this model, and that something needs to be done about the slow gear sequencer on all of the Freewing models, 30 seconds to cycle the retracts is just plain ridiculous.
Excellent touch-n-goes… if I could land like that, I wouldn’t be fabricating a replacement gear for my Arrows Edge 540 out of music wire; sadly, they used a very soft, low yield strength wire and it bends very easily. Speaking of, I’d like to see you review that aircraft; that gear issue is my only legitimate complaint.
We asked Arrows to work with us and demo their models. We'll see if they respond. With regard to landing, it's a skill that has to be practiced a lot to be proficient. The more you do it, the better you'll get. Spend a few batteries doing touch and goes and you'll get it quickly.
@@TwoBrosRC - Some of my planes are very easy to land; I just haven’t got the hang of the Edge yet - it will come. But that gear is still too malleable… it’s gotta go. 😃
@@tonydarst8211 Try making the ailerons separate and reflexing both of them up somewhat so you have to bring the model in with thrust instead of gliding it. It'll probably be a lot easier to land that way.

Loaded rolls use rudder to slide the tail around in the maneuver. It should look like the aircraft is skidding through the roll.

I am bugged too that Freewing keeps missing the point on making full span elevons.
