i think it was more that guy wanted to do more but red was angry because he specifically told him no drugs if he had gone beyond his station but without breaking orders red would have been happy with the increase in cash flow
Arrogance. The belief one is immune from harm, or smarter than Red. If Red doesn't know what you are doing, it only means he hasn't found out. And he finds out EVERYTHING. It's just a matter of the offender starting out in the lead and Red always catching up to them.
His calmness is what makes him so menacing. You can sense that he could kill you without a second thought. And it wouldn't be out of anger or hatred or fear, just removing something in his way.
Was a good show in the beginning, they took it too far as every other show after few seasons, but this garbage took it waaaaaay over the line with woke crap in the late seasons and this last bits we are getting in season 9 are just horrible
I love Spader. He can play this bad guy that is freaking amazing but then he can turn around and play a character like Alan Shore, who was sarcastic and funny as hell. Honestly, he is way underrated.
"Value loyalty among all else..." - just about everything Red does - comes back to this simple but powerful mantra. Whether it's make-believe TV / Movie OR real life - THAT mantra is golden.
Not drugs exactly, human trafficking and methamphetamines are his lines. Seems like the more addictive hardline opioids are what he refuses to run(despite his maybe more amicable usage of opioids himself)
"If it was up to me - and lets all reflect on how awesome it is that it isn't..." is such a great line. Didn't we all have such a moment in our lives, thinking "thank the gods I don't have to decide here lol"
This actually is every Spader character in a nutshell. Professional, calm on the outside and an underlying pool of sadness that is permanently fed by the things other people would get outraged by.
My interpretation of what Red's saying: He tells that whole story about training to not mind committing unspeakable acts by not minding the pain of a flame. He then does it himself, flinches, and says "I mind." The listener (I agree with another comment that he's made this speech before, and that Dembe's familiar with it) is supposed to think Red minds doing the unspeakable acts. But they should know him well enough to know that isn't true. Red minds the _flame._ He can't hold his hand in it and not mind. The _listener_ is the flame, and it is _their_ unspeakable acts he minds.
I cannot imagine any actor, and there are some brilliant ones out there, who could have portrayed Raymond Reddington better than James Spader. In fact, I can't think of anyone who would come close to his portrayal.
Red to smoky: "How did you know martin had a kid" Smoky: "wzziz waz wazzoz" Red: "speak clearly so I understand you - throws him out of plane dew minutes later When it comes to Red's business, DO .. NOT .. push your luck

This is one of reds best ever scenes. It shows who he is. How he can be brutal but lives by a moral code, which is the reason for this very execution. Classic scene.
Yep, if there's one *TRUISM* in life, don't betray Red! - He ain't to be trifled with...And one other thing, don't ever entertain the folly of thinkin' you're smarter than him.
not to mention he didn't instruct no drug running to his managers, this was a paranoia purge designed to flush out whoever he wanted to believe ratted on him or was even capable of ratting on him to the police and put him in jail,
If Liddy had that saying about "not minding", it figures. The little roach never really was that original. He stole it from the movie "Lawrence of Arabia".
If every dealer was killed on the spot it may make others less interested in the job. Sure some would still deal and take desperate measures but when they are killed on the spot it may eventually start getting better. It’s only getting worse by allowing it
As long as people want it and will pay for it there will be dealers. If you get caught dealing in China you die. They don't seem to run out of dealers to kill.
Nope, it just makes the price go up and the people who are willing to get involved even more dangerous. Just legalize it all and start regulating it. That will tank the profits of the cartels and then we can put money towards drug addiction treatment. As long as there is a profit motive, the drugs will come.
My only qualm with Red is that there is no real punishment for the crimes committed against him. Sure people get shot, almost always, but what sort of punishment is that? As the Count of Monte Cristo said, "A few moments of inconvenience is hardly justice for all the pain they caused. " (Paraphrase) All the trouble these people cause and their punishment is a few moments of pain? Seems a little off-balance for a man like Reddington.
i feel if red was true to his character, other characters wouldnt last long and there would be no regulars left on the show lol. so much of what he chooses not to do is off balance. just getting rid of them is the least we can hope for. another thing to consider is that he must remain likable, have mass appeal. like in the dexter books dexter tortured the bad guys, but in the tv series they left that part of him out. because most dont want to see that or shouldnt be allowed to see it because we are supposed to live in a civilized society.
Desde la muerte de Liz Keen y a pesar de la imponente y sensacional actuación de James Spader,"The Blacklist" es una mesa de 4 patas a la cual le han cortado 2.Ya no es igual.
Initially, I wasn't sure whether to put Red on the psychopath category or on the sociopath category...I'm kinda' rooting for the latter, since he has a conscience - sometimes...
I agree with his decision to kill the man. but if I was red, I'd make an example out of him, to make sure that nobody betrays red, without considering serious consequences. but that's me, I'm not sure if such actions fit his character.
I love how ridiculously intimidating Red can get out of nowhere. Had my armpits sweating like crazy.
You should see a doctor for that
😂
That guy intimidates you? 😂
Jason statham sweating when Red show up. It's cool bro.
How any of Reds employees ever get the idea betraying him is a good idea is beyond me.
Doesn't mean they won't try

bcs its scripted
No honor among thieves.
How Spader portrays Red is amazing, how he can be so calm yet menacing
Generally speaking if a situation is going downhill and/or highly chaotic the calmest person in the room is the most dangerous OR the craziest
Same when he voiced Ulltron
Like Hannibal Lector. Without the cannibalism part.
His calmness is what makes him so menacing. You can sense that he could kill you without a second thought. And it wouldn't be out of anger or hatred or fear, just removing something in his way.
Smokey never met Walcott, but knew he had kids. That sealed Smokey's fate too.
This is simply the best series I have ever seen. May Spader live forever.
It is Indeed
Was a good show in the beginning, they took it too far as every other show after few seasons, but this garbage took it waaaaaay over the line with woke crap in the late seasons and this last bits we are getting in season 9 are just horrible

Did you not watch season 8? He got cancer
1:53 The way he delivers that line is absolutely chilling.
That's what sealed Smokey's fate. He heard how Red said he despised drug dealing.
that and saying that he didn't know martin, then mentioning that martin had children
Betrayal is never taken lightly.
Nor should it be.
You gotta love Reddington’s problem solving skills. So effective !
I just noticed the guilt that flashed across smokey's face after martin died, he knows he screwed up
Not only that. He said he never met martin yet he knew that martin was a family man
@@diegomolina8940 oh that's right, the sudden knowing that flashed across red's face was scary

Loyalty is Everything.
It's the best quality to aspire to, and the worst thing to forsake, given the Ninth Circle.
Above all else 😮
I love how even Raymond sees drugs as a poison that should not be sold
Certainly not by _his_ network.
*proceed to get high with opium in a chinese speakeasies
Seems like there must be degrees to it all. He doesn't mind alcohol. And I remember him saying he was partial to a hash and opium combo.
They show over the course of the show there are things Red just won't deal in. Human Trafficking being another one.
Not drugs exactly, human trafficking and methamphetamines are his lines. Seems like the more addictive hardline opioids are what he refuses to run(despite his maybe more amicable usage of opioids himself)
James Spader is a absolute Genius. This is one of his best character
The writers are pretty good, I agree. And Spader acts those lines very well.
Martin got stirred & Smokey got shaken.
This show would have been best ever made in history without Liz and her SpongeBob husband.
why spongebob?^^
You are absolutely right
You are goddamn right.
Sponge Bob?
So true. They just dragged along and slowed everything down.

smokey?
@@pascalanonym6495 Yes Smokey. The guy with the mustache that gets spared in this scene but later gets tossed out of a plane by Red.
Smokey

Spader is among the most underrated actors.. even though he has been creating magic with just about any kind of role for few decades..
The best series so far in this decade
Good "Mr Inbetween" and watch some clips or the series :)
The story about the flame is so poetic and how it tied in to offing Martin
This was the role of a lifetime for James Spader which is saying a lot because he has done a ton of movies.
I hope the rest of the scene points out that if the other guy has never met Martin then how does he know Martin has a family
Yep 😏 it sure does!
This show enjoys some of the best writing on TV. Rest assured, that was NOT a lose end or a mistake.
The best series I've ever seen...James Spader is top draw...and his character Raymond reddington is mesmerising to watch and listen to 👍
the liz keen charactor is the terrible
I always liked Spader. The rest of the cast was cardboard and replaceable at will. I just watched for him.
James Spader is an underrated legendary actor, he is defiantly on par with Robert Downey jr. and Jude Law.
