I think drummers would appreciate Radiohead a lot. It's not just the drum parts... all their instruments get pretty interesting with interweaving rhythms.
Hey, look at me, I'm Phil Selway, I repeat a beat for several minutes at a time without fills that I can use to put myself back in time if I start to slip
LOVE the slow build in intensity and the layering of the guitars: the arpeggiated guitar parts. Arpeggio is playing chords one note at a time in sequence like they were all doing. Listen to it a few more times. And the whole album is a masterpiece, listening to all the songs together. Oh BTW, that's an Electro-Voice EV-20 mic he's using. Yours has a similar build, but not the same, correct? The EV-20 is a classic mic that's been around a while. Used more for voice work, especially for male voices, but it's a good vocal mic too. It definitely works for Thom and he uses one quite a bit. Radiohead's earlier work is a little more simple, especially their first album, so I always recommend to people to listen to their songs in order because they grow a lot as a band from album to album, especially between The Bends (#2) and Kid A (#4). Those three albums are so different and they expand their range and palette a tremendous amount during that period. I've listened to tons of music, have shelves full of albums and CD's, been to tons of concerts, and have a room full of instruments - these guys and Yes are tied for my favorite artists of all time. There's a lot of awesome bands and artists tied for second place, but these guys and Yes are the best, in my opinion. Thanks for listening and sharing. Like hearing your insights as a musician and drummer especially, since I'm more a guitar and keyboard player, so your view is a nice complement to what I get out of things. Peace from SF PS - If you really want to be impressed by their range and creativity, listen offline to "15 Step" off this album, In Rainbows, then listen to this performance they did at the Grammy awards where they did a wildly different arrangement that rocked the house (I think you would REALLY appreciate the drum work!) ua-cam.com/video/XgjWVIDN9rQ/v-deo.html
The lead singer, Thom Yorkes favorite song they ever did was How To Dissapear Completely. I would love too see you check that one out, its a beautiful song and Im sure youd enjoy it. :)
Radiohead is one of the most incredible bands of all time. Some people (old people) don't want to hear it. But they are amazing. Nothing sounds like them, nothing ever will. There is no such thing as a Radiohead impersonation band such as Wolfmother or Greta Van Fleet. You can't just recreate their sound.
the best song on the best album radiohead ever recorded. i WILL sub and like just cos of that drum intro. edit: AND you're watching the absolute best version available - that whole set from the basement is gold.
He’s possibly the best singer in rock/alternative/whatever genre Radiohead belongs to in the last few decades. He specifically chooses emotion over perfection after Neil young suggested that to him. By all means we all have our opinions though, and that’s all good.
@@majorsev830 Jeff Buckley has a very distinctive voice and he gets props from me for covering a Genesis song off the "Lamb..." album, [fyi, "Back In N.Y.C"], he was a big fan of the band, as I recall, as well as Led Zeppelin. I won't argue about his voice being good, but Thom's is tops with me, lol!
@@cosmiccat6708 yep he covered it on sketches, his posthumous album. I'm a fan of both genesis and zep as well. I actually discovered Jeff through zep cos Jeff was apparently a big fan and was heavily influenced of led zep. The thing about him was that he was a great mimic. He had a great understanding of the human voice and he can imitate any vocal styles there is. I love listening to his live performances and live banters. There was one instance where he imitates Vedder and it was spot on! He probably had the most versatile voice in rock history. Vocal distortion, clean falsetto and head voice, well developed mixed voice, clean chest voice and he was able to glide through the ranges with ease. His work is a great study for singers and guitarists and songwriters alike.
Awesome to see you continuing to check out Radiohead! This concert is Legendary. If you wan to hear an example of some of Thom's singing ability check out "Nude" From the Basement. Every song from this performance is amazing. Another good track to listen to is "Karma Police." Keep them coming! My first favorite musical act was Pink Floyd then I encountered SRV and he became everything to me. Radiohead = 2+2=5 Thom is in the sweet spot in musical terms, same with Johnny; and now in the same project “the smile” ahhhhh, just perfect. Great video man!
Lol Radio Head is on an other level bro, There one of those iconic bands who’s music does not fade like so many others this song has so many levels of music and emotions you don’t see very often.
They’re lyrics are very abstract, for me I focus more on the mood of the song than the lyrics because the lyrics aren’t easily decipherable and I don’t think they’re intended to be.
The layering of instruments is breathtaking, also the crescendo in the end was stellar, they are definitely one of the best bands all time imo, such a multi deminsional (sp) song and the talent they possess is unmatched imo....

Thom doesn't have perfect vocal technique but he knows how to make the most out of his voice. And he's got his own style and approach which makes him unique from other singers.
So stoked to see more and more checking out Radiohead. Pull up Before your very eyes from Atoms for Peace and Daydreaming from Moon Shaped Pool. And for some really old school High and Dry, Just, Bulletproof.
Listen to the live version of "Creep" from the Glastonbury festival. See what this man can do with that voice. He does choose emotion over perfection, as someone else commented here, but I, personally, think he has a beautiful voice. To be fair, you've only just begun reacting to them, so maybe you need more of a listen, but I like your honesty. Your reaction was still positive but. I'm just such a fan that I'm like "What?!", lol and leaping to his defence.
For some, Thom's voice is an acquired taste. It took me some time (not too long) to truly grasp the greatness of his voice. I actually had a little debate with someone in college, around the time this album came out, who was arguing with me that Thom's voice is classically great. I still disagree with him, but I don't think that makes his voice any less beautiful. His voice is unconventional and that makes it all the more interesting to me, though, as I stated before, I had to warm up to it at first.
