Modified Novix Helo tree stand two stick Ultralight Method (have since rectified safety issues)

  • Followed my son and one of his buddies into the woods where they demonstrated how to set up and the advantages of a #modifiedNovixHelo lock on stand. The #ultralightdeerstand system is very mobile and very quick to deploy. The use of only two sticks and aiders makes for a very light mobile stand system. The simple short cord method that allows to use the seat of the stand as an additional pack space is a definite game changer with this method. This mobile hunting setup with climbing sticks and stand combo make public land hunting more accessible when your area is pressured and you are forced to move locations in a short amount of time. Modified Novix helo review.

Strongly suggest linesman’s belt on the way up. Only takes one fall to get seriously hurt. Thx for the video

I'm new to saddle hunting. I've done a lot of research and spent the last year doing it. I have 30+ years bow hunting (with one fall) I can tell you I thought I was being careful and safe. I was not. I think you are on the right track and you will get there. But, you absolutely need to wear a tether or safety rope at all times! Not doing so and not promoting wearing one is a bad idea. I only forgot my safety rope one time. I'm lucky I now have three crushed vertibrae (instead of being dead or cripple) I can still hunt, but not like I used to. Do us all a favor and practice safety and promote it too. We bow hunters need to stick together. Good luck this season!

You can also add an aider to the bottom of your stand after you get it hung if you wanna add some height. I do that to limit sticks.

  • @wampire1284

That was nerve racking to watch. Use a lineman’s going up. Have a tether attached above your stand after you set it and before you detach lineman’s to get in.
550 cord is light for body weight. 8mm accessory cord minimum for aider. Doesn’t matter how much you trust your Amsteel cordage on the sticks when you’re putting your weight on standard paracord

One possibly even fatal flaw with this method, though. All your hang on tree stand and climbing stick manuals say to step DOWN off your stick into the stand. I doubt many actually put the top stick above level with the platform, but you need to realize that when you’re stepping up so high to get into a stand, you’re basically asking it to rock and kick out BEFORE you even finish setting it. Begs the question of why bother toe hooking it to set it if you’ve already taken such risk? Right? Speaking of setting it, what’s important is not how much it drops but that a couple of the batwing bracket teeth are visibly biting the tree. I’m all for toting less and I use aiders as well, but bottom line is it’s hard to SAFELY get to most folk’s preferred hunting height with only two sticks. Multi-step aiders can work but how safe are they on crooked or wet trees? Toting one more stick won’t hurt. Check out Traditional Bowhunting and Wilderness Podcast. Dude is as fast and efficient hanging 3 LW sticks and a stand as anyone I’ve seen. Mainly though, stay SAFE and maybe you’ll still be able to hunt elevated when you get as old as I am.

Great advice David, he should make another video this time being safe, the young guys are good to keep our triditions alive but there never going to happen to me attitude needs work and that comes from hunting with a friend who drives an ATV into his blind because he can't walk anymore, A friend of mine closed off 400 acres of his land because someone sued him when they fell from there stand, the judge dismissed the case and today nobody can hunt without permission and waiver from there attorney, this is the price we pay for carelessness

Your're going to fall one day, where's your linemens rope, Your're swinging that stand around at that height, at one time you only had your feet at point of contact, balancing, and that harness you had around your waste tethered to tree is not going to save you, at least Corey had on a full harness, it's not a young man's game I just know how to get up there safely, I'm 60 years old hunting for 58 years and been hanging stands since the old Loc On stand days, I know you're young and believe never going to happen to me, you fall from that height and you could find yourself hunting fields from your truck with your handicap placard on your mirror, life isn't a race, be safe and enjoy your hunts

I just got the novix helo it’s a good stand but I’m not real happy with it nothing wrong with it I guess I’m just getting to old to mess with these lock ons I fought with the sticks for 35min and never even got to hanging the stand I was completely wore out so I let my 17 yr old son try it I walked back to the house got my open shot climber walked back climbed a tree and came back down before he ever got the stand in the tree I feel like the climber is just more efficient for me but I can see where a lock on is needed

Coming from someone that's hunts with a saddle system you know how important it is to be tethered to the tree. It only takes one wrong move and you could be paralyzed. Or worse. Very discouraging to see this guy and knowing younger more inexperienced hunters are probably going to follow his example. Stupidity kills brother
