  • Did you break your antenna and mounting base? This video shows you the components you need to replace and repair your antenna, bracket and cover. This video was on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ model. Details to help the DIY enthusiast. I purchased it from Morris 4x4, MOPAR Antenna Base Cable and Bracket with Pigtail Kit by Mopar 4031-D-4A, The UPC Code is 56038660AB (this is what morris4x4center.com uses as the reference number). The Cover was separate, and was from the brand “Drake Off Road” and it was the Jeep TJ Antenna Cover & Gasket
    JP-190012-Cover. #jeeps #jeepwrangler #jeeptj ‪@JohnsJeepGarage‬

    I had the same issue. Ran my tj through the car wash (never doing that again) and it snapped right off. I have to buy the kit but your video is gonna be super helpful, thank you!

    Great video! Perfect length, just the information I need to do the job. If I had made this video it would probably be 15 minutes of me waxing philosophical. Liked and subscribed!

    Thanks for your reply, my problem I’m having is static on both AM and FM channels, I get no reception on either. I changed my stock radio to a new stereo, with new wiring all the way to the base antenna. And still static on both AM and FM.

      Also - new radio - Check if any cables are disconnected or damaged or loose, especially the ground wire.

    Thank you. This was extremely helpful. Any chance you have some tips for protecting my frame from rotting more? I live in NJ and the Salt/Snow are killing my jeep

      I am glad you liked the video. I have lived in the California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. Though I have traveled all around, my Jeeps have not lived in a state that has snow. They have, however, been around saltwater. All I can tell you, is I do my best to wash it down every time. I am sure that is hard in the winter. The other thing I do, is take the time to hit the heavy rust spots with a wire brush and some undercarriage Rustoleum spray paint or other Rustoleum paint, such as high heat Rustoleum, which does a good job in holding the rust back for some time. I also take the time and apply WD-40 to bolts/nuts underneath. I cannot imagine the impact of winter and not being able to wash it down, but those are just some of my thoughts you can try during the warmer months.

    I just changed mine. But instead of ripping the wire out and replacing the whole thing, the wire unplugs from the base so I just unplugged the old base and plugged the new base in. My hole was stripped so I couldn't screw a new mast on.

    • @JohnsJeepGarage
      @JohnsJeepGarage  4 роки тому

      Yes. In fact, there was nothing wrong with the cable / wire as well, but since the kit came with an new one, I went ahead and replaced it. But for others that are reading this, your method and idea for just unplugging at the base may work best for them. Good note and thank you for posting your comment.

    Is it possible to just replace the part in the video you said was “weak corroded or something” in the video without needed the entire wire? Like does that part unscrew out?

    • @JohnsJeepGarage
      @JohnsJeepGarage  3 роки тому

      Dan, I have to be honest, I am not sure since I normally buy the component with it all together (most of the time it is sold that way). I don't remember it being able to separate. I need to see if I can get an old one or look further. Normally I replace the entire component unless it is just the end cap or antenna. I know this doesn't answer your question but l will post an update after further follow up.

    John, I’m replacing the base antenna connection on a 2014 jk, it’s a little different from the TJ, any suggestions on how to change it?

    • @JohnsJeepGarage
      @JohnsJeepGarage  6 місяців тому +1

      I have not changed one in the JK. We have a 2016 JK and JKU and will take a look at it. Nothing has warranted us to replace it as of yet but can disassemble and reassemble to get some insight. Thank you for watching!

    Would I be able to get a way to contact you? I did this and my FM is still not getting any sound. AM works fine. I was wondering if you’d be willing to unplug the antenna and let me know if there’s at least static or if it’s just silent? Mine is silent, no static.

    • @JohnsJeepGarage
      @JohnsJeepGarage  3 роки тому

      Yes, reach out on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the Direct Message. These are my thoughts - if you replaced the entire component, the base and cable and the antenna, then I am not inclined to at first think it is a bad component you installed, it is possible, but not my first thought. Do you have your old antenna available to reinstall to check signal? If AM is working and FM is not working, then that can also be due to the type of antenna - normally all the new antennas cover this, but AM/FM have different requirements. So if you still have your old antenna, then just temporarily try it to see if you get a signal, if you don't, then you know it is a different issue possibly in the radio.
      Check to see nothing is wrong with the back of your radio and see if anything is loose or unplugged. How old is your radio? Any issues with it before?
      External car fuses would be something to check if the power to the radio was off entirely, so it doesn't seem that this is the case.
      Since I never ran in to this before, a local expert for you should be one of your radio installation places, even a place to call like Best Buy and someone who has dealt with many type of radio problems. I have installed a few of these type of antennas and not had a problem with any of them. I will however, run the test for you and let you know about the static or silence your requested.

      I purchased it from Morris 4x4 Center (online). Drake Off Road Antenna Cover - Black (part number JP-190012-Cover). It shows it is out of stock but they expect to get more in stock. There number is 877-553-5337 and they can direct you to another option or let you know when that cover will come back in stock.

      Remember to validate it fits on your Jeep in case there is a different connection for your year model. The website has that validation step to check and this specific kit fit a 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ.

      Thank you for watching our video. It was made over four years ago and the parts we used are listed in the description. The best way to ensure your parts that you order on Amazon fit your vehicle is to enter your vehicle information in the Amazon garage section of your account. I have attached a link to help you. I do not represent Amazon, so I’m only sharing from experience that sometimes, the part you order does not fit. I always ensure the part I’m ordering can be validated through other means such as an auto parts store, and then I’m buying the part on Amazon because it is cheaper. But I have to admit most of the time the Amazon part matching to your vehicle is accurate.
