It always amazes me how I watch your entire video even though I don’t own a JL or a CB bar or anything even really related to the video haha The videos are just so relaxing to watch with how in depth and clean you make these installs look. Very relaxing honestly.
Some of the best made videos on YT. I honestly wish they were longer sometimes, but excellent job overall. I do not have a need for a CB radio, but man now i know more than before.
Very well done and easy to follow for all the jeepers out there. It is so important to have alternate ways to communicate not only on the trial but even as a group heading to a destination.
I used to have a CB, but we have switched over to GMRS. Same CB Bar, but do not have to use the antenna. plus the range is sooooo much better than CB. Great install video as always my friend.
I have the CB bar also and absolutely love it. I did make one slight change and mounted my radio on top of the bar. My head hit the radio a couple of times so I flipped the radio to the top side. Everything still works great with it on top, freedom tops and sunrider soft top also.
Awesome video. I used a cable with the normal end attached and had to run it thru the one way vents behind the spare. I mounted my radio by the shifter and it used every bit of that 18’ cable. I didn’t even think about running a ground, but will now.
Great video, the only things I've do different are: for the fme terminal make a hole in the center of rubber plug and the ground strap invented the small terminal in the tailgate and sand the paint but all of this for my "obsession", the vid was already 100% perfect

I really love the 2dr base model jl you've been using for these vids. very good simple to follow instructions. I used to take my jeeps to cb shop and wait for an hour or so for install. Now i think i can do this myself.
Thanks so much for the info! I just ordered one of the Wilson Cables, they look so much easier than building my own which I have for years. Unfortunately the ground strap is out of stock so I will be making one of those. I am running the Wilson coax and a second control cable for my antenna out so I will be sealing that little plug after I reinstall to make sure no water gets in. Thanks!
LOL. Having done it for years in big trucks, got my CB in my TJ. Then everyone in my area switched to GMRS. Had the coax mapped out for the CB so just followed that routing.
Great job & helpful info. I'm in the process of putting a CB in my JLUR & was concerned about getting a good ground. Looks like I fund the solution. Thanks!
The first mount I did on my 2021 4Xe was using existing hole in the heavy duty tire carrier (near hinge). Worked great until I opened my rear glass without opening the rear hatch fully and a snapped antenna right off. Not sure if your design easily clears the glass when opening or closes glass when gate not fully opened, but I had to do a custom metal mount that fits antenna directly in the center of spar. Now no issue with glass. Love your creativity!
As always, excellent video. I also have the CB Bar, it installed perfectly and has been used for my GMRS radio. I like your rear antenna mount. Maybe time for 2nd (CB) radio! Thanks again.
Another great instructional video. What I really enjoy is that you have a very neat, complete installation no matter what the project. You show what tools to use, tell us the sizes, torque specs, etc, very complete. I do have a question. Will the excess length of coax on a 2 door fit inside the plastic cover on the tailgate? Great video, thanks for posting. 👍
We're happy to hear you enjoy our videos and apologize for the lack of them lately. We're okay but do have a lot going on right now. We hope to get back to them again soon. We appreciate your concern and support.
You need a TJ or LJ in your corral. The JL is by far my favorite Wrangler, but The Tj was my first wrangler, and man, i loved that truck. Off topic, but I was admiring your cover pic.
Had a TJ for 10 years and would love to have another again. People just want way too much money for them these days and I'm not paying that much for an old Jeep.
@@wayalife you're not wrong about that. I was actually looking for an older TJ Rubicon for my wife, but the prices are crazy. Might as well just buy her a jk. Thanks for always responding, my friend. Huge fan of your channel
Finally had the time to install the wiring for the CB radio. Your instructional videos really helped and went pretty well. The only part I was not able to do was install the grounding strap to the tailgate. I used your tailgate mount and hardware and I seem to have same amount of thread like you had in your video but cannot get the nut to bite. Since I didn't have a longer bolt I installed the ground to the tailgate hinge door check. While it may not be the best direct ground for the antenna I'm wondering if it will be good enough. If not I may be getting a longer bolt and try that.
Nice video. Always interested in comms for the Jeep. For my installed mobile I've gone with a TYT9800 amateur quad band radio (programed to receive GMRS, FRS, and MURS as well as my licensed VHF and UHF transmit frequencies). I also have portable GMRS/FRS (licensed), MURS and CB radios in addition to my county P25 radio for HazMat and Fire response (if you ask my wife she'll tell you I have a problem). thank you! I'm getting ready to do this exact thing, I was going to do the front mount but I think I'll do rear after watching the video. About how long will this take to do?
Do you make antenna mounts for the jeep gladiator JT (to locate in the gap between the tailgate and the cab)? If not what would you recommend? What antenna would you recommend? Lastly does the CB radio brand have to match the antenna? Thanks! Love your videos! So much help!
I'm working on it and hope to have something available soon. I personally like Firestik II antennas and have it linked in the description. also, they do not have to match.
Awesome video as always. I have the tailgate reinforcement on my jl with the mounting location that is provided. The problem is it's thicker than your mounting bracket for the antenna and I don't have enough threads to get the plastic washer and lock washer on. Do you know of an antenna coupler with longer threaded portion? Suggestions? Thanks in advance. Love your videos.
So, I run a NMO antenna on my mount but made an adapter to make it work. If there is enough of a demand, I will try to make the adapter available for sale as well.
Hi, always great content videos, out of the line. A word about the 2.0 vs 3.6 both manual, about long term reliability. Just normal use 90% road. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank You...
Eddie, do you make an antenna mount that will fit on the JL with the Xtreme Recon package? As you probably know, the spare is bigger and it is equipped with the Mopar tailgate reinforcement. Thanks, and I love your channel!
Is your antenna bracket strong enough to hold an eight foot stainless whip? Can your CB radio mount hold more than 1 radio? I saw a splitter switch to feed 2 radios with one antenna . Also, can you put rear sway bar disconnects on the rear of your Rubi?
I would imagine so but I have not personally tested it so I can't say for sure. Regarding the CB BAR, yes, there are lots of guys who are running multiple radios on it. As far as sway bar disconnects go, you do NOT want or need to disconnect the rear. The factory sway bar is soft enough that it will not limit flex. The stability that it provides is something you should want.
I had problems getting a ground bound between the Mopar HD tailgate mounting screws and your NMO adapter plate. In fact, on my 2023 Extreme Recon Wrangler, there is no continuity between the upper hinge, the original hardware and the chassis. I had to run ground braid in parallel to the antenna cable, through the drain plug, through the tailgate and followed your video's recommendations for grounding to the chassis. Has anyone experienced this?
So…dumb question alert. When modifying the tailgate plug to accept the cable, is there an advantage to drilling a hole and then cutting or can you just drill a hole and run the cable through? Just curious! As always, great content and thank you for walking through all the steps with such great info!
The end of the cable is bigger than the cable. You could drill a bigger hole to fit the end through it but then, the hole will most likely be too big and will let in dirt and debris in the tailgate.
Curious why you didn’t drill the 1/4” hole in the rubber plug and run it directly through without making a slit on it? Would make for a better seal, although for the most part will still work pretty decent
The hole created is ultimately a LOT smaller than a 1/4" and trying to shove the mini end through it is near impossible. The hole is made so that it exists but still has a tight fit around the cable. The slit is completely sealed once reinstalled. But hey, feel free to do what you think is best on your Jeep 👍
Hey there!! Big fan of your videos! I had a question about the issue you had with Moby’s manual trans before you opted to swap for the LS. I have a 07 manual trans as well with the same issue you had. Any idea what the issue was?
@@wayalife Thanks a lot, I have a stock 44, I didn't even consider that the noise may be coming from the diff. I'm getting my clutch replaced as we speak. If I still hear the noise I will inspect that next. Thank you so much for sharing!
Why didn't you flip the bracket over and use the left bolt to hold a relief strap for the co-ax cable? Also protects the lower half of the base and raises the antenna a few inches for better ground plan.
@@delbancroft9339 LOL - well, I did answer your question, at least part of it. Maybe watch again or better yet, do what you feel is best for your Jeep 👍🏻
Unfortunately, I don't know for sure but if you can cut a piece of steel and drill a hole in it, you can make an adapter and bolt it on to the mount to make it work. I've had people with different types of antennas do this.
I do not as the mount is too thick for it. I have been working with making an adapter that can be bolted to it though and it works well. I hope to have it available soon.
@@wayalife OK, yeah I see. Direct on it looked like the ring connector was only making contact with the red flat part and the nut, but you did pull it down to contact the bolt. Thanks.
On my JL did same kind of installation and worked out with speaker wire as ground. My friend has a 4xe and unable to calibrate CB. Could it be speaker wire or batteries interfering?
@@realbob6669 As I show in the video, the nylon washer NEEDS to be installed with the inner step sitting IN the hole of the mount. This isolates the threaded part of the stud. If you do not do this, you will have issues.
CB Bar looks nice but I can't figure out why everyone think that the rear tailgate makes a great place to put an antenna? There is no flat ground plane to reflect the signal off of. If you want to transmit with any distance, you need to use a fender mount bracket so you get refection off the flat, horizontal hood's ground plane.
@Tony Waters It's where Mopar puts their mount on their reinforced tire carrier. And really, I've never found it to be a problem communicating with the friends I'm wheeling with. If they're really so far away that I need greater communication range, I'm not really wheeling with them. But hey, that's just me.
Eddi i’m ordering a jeep JL but have been reading about corrosion on door hinges in as little as 1-2yrs. Being as you own several and know more people who own them than me, I wanted to ask if it something you see often?. Should i be concerned.. the thought of canceling the order has begun to cros my mind… Ty
Honestly, I have not had this problem on any of the 4 JK's (1 I still have and it's a 2007) that I've owned, the 3 JL's (2 I still own) that I've owned or even the JT that I own. This goes for all my friends as well and over the last 20 years. I know there have been some instances where it has occurred but there are far fewer instances than the internet will have you believe.
Like I said, if you connect it to the lower hinge bolts, it will. This, as opposed to the upper ones like I did. You just need to make sure to clean the threads of paint.
Have any of your JL/JT jeeps had any issues with paint bubbling due to corrosion around the hinges of the doors, hood and tailgates? Are you aware of this seemingly widespread problem? I’m a huge fan of your videos, have always been a Toyota fan but am interested in jumping into the Jeep world, with a lot of that due to your videos. But as I do more research before pulling the trigger on buying a Wrangler, seems like a lot of people who own the current gen Jeeps seem pretty disappointed with the Jeep paint on their wranglers and gladiators in the areas I mentioned.
LOL - a few hyped up posts on the internet doesn't necessarily mean something is a "widespread" problem. NONE of my JL's or JT has this problem nor do any of the ones my friends have or members of my forum have it. Not saying it's never happened to anyone but with almost 1 million JL's out there, I think I would have seen or heard about a few more instances if it were truly a widespread problem.
@wayalife I ask because I made my own plate to catch all 4 bolts, so I could use the ball type with my 12ft antenna. I was hesitant to use a small mount.
Why not eliminate cutting the slit in the plug by just feeding the cable through the 1/4” hole you drilled? I feel like it would be more weather tight that way.
The hole created is ultimately a LOT smaller than a 1/4" and trying to shove the mini end through it is near impossible. The hole is made so that it exists but still has a very tight fit around the cable. Also, the plug is still difficult to put back in and that makes the slit completely sealed and weather tight once reinstalled. But hey, feel free to do what you think is best on your Jeep
@@wayalife OMG. I just bought my first Jeep 2013 unlimited Sahara. I just put 32/11.5/ 17s off a 2022 Gladiator, your videos are inspiring to what can be done. Love the videos of the places you go. Really like your rigs, I can’t wait to get a 2” lift on mine. Keep the videos coming.
CB's are affordable, can be found anywhere and easy to setup and use without a license. For any trail run with friends, it's all you really need. That said, I would always recommend that you use whatever your friends are running.
Odd question sir….When you remove those painted bolts does it break up the paint on the bolts? I want to realigned my passenger door but I’m afraid to damage the paint on the bolts.
In the torx head, the paint will get marred a bit from the tool. The bolts will break free of the hinge clean and there is no paint in between the hinge and tailgate.
This is the worst place to mount any antenna, if you want proper reception and antenna use it needs a flat plane near it for good signal, like a hood or flat roof.
Umm, this is a Jeep Wrangler. It has no roof. Mounting on the hood is an option but it looks lame. While this may not bet the 'best' location, I have no need to talk to strangers half way around the globe. For my purposes, I have found this location to work exceptionally well and have had no issues communicating with everyone that I'm wheeling with.
For trail use, it's fine. You are rarely too far from those that you are communicating with. I get that in an emergency situation you want more range, but in my experience wheeling, the only people who are within the range of a few kilometers is the group you are wheeling with, and no one else.
@Keon exactly. Also, typically, I'm the guy people call on in an emergency as I typically have everything needed to help out. And, if I'm by myself and need help, I use my InReach satellite communications device. Other than that, there is no need to talk to anyone outside of my immediate group.

The slit is completely sealed once reinstalled. But hey, feel free to do what you think is best on your Jeep 👍

Hi sir , I have the antenna and flagpole bracket installed on my Jeep tailgate bracket…. From where I can buy the antenna and flagpole please
I guess it depends on what kind of antenna you're wanting to run but I'm sure you can buy both on Amazon or the like.
Hey there!! Big fan of your videos! I had a question about the issue you had with Moby’s manual trans before you opted to swap for the LS. I have a 07 manual trans as well with the same issue you had. Any idea what the issue was?
In the end, the real problem was with the ring and pinion on our PR60 rear axle. Didn't find it until after we were doing the swap.
@@wayalife Thanks a lot, I have a stock 44, I didn't even consider that the noise may be coming from the diff. I'm getting my clutch replaced as we speak. If I still hear the noise I will inspect that next. Thank you so much for sharing!
@@wayalife Update, I ended up having the exact same problem a broken ring and pinion :) Thank you so much for helping me out!!
Why didn't you flip the bracket over and use the left bolt to hold a relief strap for the co-ax cable? Also protects the lower half of the base and raises the antenna a few inches for better ground plan.
Maybe try watching the video and listen to why I installed the bracket the way I did 😎
@@wayalife I watched the video, then asked the question
@@delbancroft9339 LOL - well, I did answer your question, at least part of it. Maybe watch again or better yet, do what you feel is best for your Jeep 👍🏻
Is your mounting bracket compatible with the Weboost OTR antenna? I’ve been trying figure out a mounting solution for a while!
Unfortunately, I don't know for sure but if you can cut a piece of steel and drill a hole in it, you can make an adapter and bolt it on to the mount to make it work. I've had people with different types of antennas do this.
Do you make a bracket with a NMO size hole?
I do not as the mount is too thick for it. I have been working with making an adapter that can be bolted to it though and it works well. I hope to have it available soon.
Wondering if the paint on that tailgate hinge is insulating the ground strap somewhat?
The ground strap is attached directly to the new hinge bolt.
@@wayalife OK, yeah I see. Direct on it looked like the ring connector was only making contact with the red flat part and the nut, but you did pull it down to contact the bolt. Thanks.
I want 2 cb antenna and one antenna for a scanner
Why is that you don’t have a TJ? 😅 I will love to watch one in your channel
We did for 10 years and then sold it due to lack of room (at the time). Now, people want stupid money for them.
@@wayalife yes that’s sad 😢 I hope you find one cheap for the channel 😃
On my JL did same kind of installation and worked out with speaker wire as ground. My friend has a 4xe and unable to calibrate CB. Could it be speaker wire or batteries interfering?
Hard to say for sure without seeing how he has everything setup. A lot of times, the nylon washer is installed wrong and that is the problem.
@@wayalife What do you mean washer not installed correctly?
Should i be concerned.. the thought of canceling the order has begun to cros my mind…
Ty
Honestly, I have not had this problem on any of the 4 JK's (1 I still have and it's a 2007) that I've owned, the 3 JL's (2 I still own) that I've owned or even the JT that I own. This goes for all my friends as well and over the last 20 years. I know there have been some instances where it has occurred but there are far fewer instances than the internet will have you believe.
wow my lunch break isn’t over yet ty for the reply lol. The wait continues 😁

Will this work with the 1 touch sky top?
I'm not sure why it wouldn't.
@wayalife ok thank you
Where else can I find that 60" ground strap? It's out of stock on Amazon, and the only others I can find are 15" - 24".
Hmm. Well, I see they still have a 48" amzn.to/3L8XmnQ
This can be attached to the lower hinge bolts and it will work too.
@@wayalife Perfect thanks! Not sure why that wasn't coming up in my search. Will four feet be enough?
Like I said, if you connect it to the lower hinge bolts, it will. This, as opposed to the upper ones like I did. You just need to make sure to clean the threads of paint.
@@wayalife Thanks for your help.
@@wayalife thanks for the reply! Good to hear you and those you Jeep with haven’t had any issues! Thanks for putting out awesome content!
I have a 2019 Rubicon and have this very issue. Very disappointed considering the cost. I still love it, but...
Please check the first 2 links..cb bar an mount..links don't work..only the amz links work..thanks
Thank you. I've had others inform me of that. Please try it now.
Is the cb radio antenna useable with a ham radio?
Yes, it is but you will need one of these to install the proper NMO style antenna wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-NMO-ADAPTER
@@wayalife great, thanks for the reply
What is the largest antenna this mount can support?
I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone having an issue with antenna size.
Eddy are your jk engines stock or are the modded
Our 2007 JK has a 6.2L LT under the hood.
Where you have mount your antenan on your Gladiator ?
I made a bracket and have it mounted to the bed. I will try to make a video of it sometime.

We did but we did replace it with this ua-cam.com/video/siJWI3ql9ZU/v-deo.html
@@wayalife oh I saw it already, I watch your vids ALL the time!
Why a CB ? Why not and GMRS ?
CB's are affordable, can be found anywhere and easy to setup and use without a license. For any trail run with friends, it's all you really need. That said, I would always recommend that you use whatever your friends are running.
Odd question sir….When you remove those painted bolts does it break up the paint on the bolts? I want to realigned my passenger door but I’m afraid to damage the paint on the bolts.
In the torx head, the paint will get marred a bit from the tool. The bolts will break free of the hinge clean and there is no paint in between the hinge and tailgate.
@@wayalife What about on the doors?
Same thing
@@wayalife Thank you so much! God bless you…
This is the worst place to mount any antenna, if you want proper reception and antenna use it needs a flat plane near it for good signal, like a hood or flat roof.
Perfect location. 👍🏻
@Rachel White Well, it's where Mopar puts it. 😁
