Wow.. Greatly appreciated info! Was just about to buy my first midlengthlongboard groveller at 67yo x 6'3" x 180lbs....having surfed shortboards for 50 years...till I saw this video ...do you think there are noticeable disadvantages in reducing length below 6'4" when grovelling, particularly when you are tall? Are the 2" reduction in length incremements in model size possibly more detrimental when grovelling than the 3/4/5L reduction in volume for each smaller model size? Or vice versa...if u get my drift Sorry to make it sound so complicated but I am having trouble getting my head around so much volume for such a small board....ie. would you consider riding the 62 or 60 as a groveller and would there be any advantage Thanks...
Thank you for the kind words my friend. My two cents on grovelers is that they will never compete with longboards or mid-lengths even at equal volume. Too corky. Check my 7'4 Takayama Scorpion videos. Same volume as the 6'4 Sweet Potato but way more proportional. Wave count is the number one goal for me at my age. That's why I mainly surf the Walden 7'2 Mega Magic. Paddles like a longboard, surfs like a short board. Good luck!
Great vid… jus wondering what was your all time best groveler board you have tried so far… is it this bake potato or another board ( scorpion, etc) ? I’m a beg / inter surfing in waist high softer waves.
The sweet potato was probably the best groveler but nothing beats a bigger board (mid length) in soft, mushy surf. Depending on your height and weight. The 6'4 sweet potato rips like a short board but the 7'2 Walden Mega, 7'4 Scorpion and the 8'0 Aipa Big Brother Sting will catch the most waves.👍
Great videos - I have a 6'2 Evo that I love but I need a punchy waist high wave to even consider riding it. Like you i am in my 50's and I am slightly over 200 pounds. I want to get a sweet potato - thinking the 6'2 but wondering if I should go all the way to 6'4 - any thoughts? thanks!
Sam, As Machado says; "foam is your friend." I can still duck dive the 6'4 Sweet Potato and it catches everything. Sure, it is corky but you can't have it both ways. I'd rather have too much volume than not enough. I also have a 6'2 Evo (see posted videos). Great board!
Awesome - thanks for the quick reply. I was looking through your videos and noticed you also demoed the 6'8 Hypto Krypto - what are your thoughts on that board? My local shop has them on sale for $595?@@surfboarddemos
great point - mainly soft east coast waves Virginia Brach and Outer Banks - i was considering the board for goo winter waves as I really cant ride my Evo well with a fullsuit, gloves, boots and hood so 6'8 Hypto has 5 more liters@@surfboarddemos

The Hypto is a good board. Probably best if you tell me the type of waves you are surfing most of the time.

The Hypto is more of a performance board than the Sweet Potato or Evo. So, if you are buying for head high plus surfing, that's your board.
