    i had the 9 ft aipa big brother sting and the 10 ft 2 custom big brother sting. the 9 ft was perfect it was 91 liters and maneuvered very well and caught every wave and can take off steep or farther back. the 10 ft two has 23 more liters and 26 more in in lenghth. I think there was a definite tradeoff in maneuvering but the board is fast, still takes off steep too. I only weigh 150 though. I think the 9 ft was perfect but the 10 ft might be a little too much volume for me. both are awesome boards. Haven't tried the toughlite yet though.

    Great vid… jus wondering what was your all time best groveler board you have tried so far… is it this bake potato or another board ( scorpion,etc) ? I’m a beg / inter surfing in waist high softer waves.

    • @surfboarddemos
      @surfboarddemos 24 дні тому

      The sweet potato was probably the best groveler but nothing beats a bigger board (mid length) in soft, mushy surf. Depending on your height and weight. The 6'4 sweet potato rips like a short board but the 7'2 Walden Mega, 7'4 Scorpion and the 8'0 Aipa Big Brother Sting will catch the most waves.👍

    I’m looking at buying a GB and wondering between a 6”8’ or 6”10’, I’m an average surfer, 90kg and 5”10’. Any chance you would be able to give me your thoughts on whether the 6”10’ would be duck dive-able and if there would be much loss performance wise going thr slightly larger board. Would you recommend either?

    Wondering if you could give me a comparison between the Greedy Beaver and the Sunday? To me, it looks like you can ride the GB from either the tail or from the center of the board and I'm wondering if you feel the Sunday has similar flexibility?

    • @surfboarddemos
      @surfboarddemos 2 місяці тому

      That's just my style. I trim to make sections on longer boards opposed to gyrating, so I move my feet closer to the nose. The Beaver has more pivot because of the tail and fin selection. The Sunday is more faster down the line. Hope that helps.

  • @johnnyk00l
    @johnnyk00l 5 місяців тому

    Great videos, fun to watch and helpful for me since I can't compare surfboards easily! Question for you, if you have time to respond, as I’m having trouble sorting through the many opposing internet opinions. I’m interested in trying a shorter board, but I only surf pretty poor quality waves. Generally 4-6 second period, knee to waist high (occasionally chest), often with strong onshore wind. My current boards are a 9’6” noserider style longboard (23.5” wide, 88 litre), and a 7’10” funboard (22” wide, 57 liters). I’d say I’m approaching an intermediate level on these, I can easily position and catch waves on either board, trim back side and front side down the wave, and I can turn relatively well, although not especially sharp and I wouldn’t say I’m carving (very much anyways). I think a shorter/grovel type board might open up some options on the small, messy waves I surf and help with some progression. I’m 6’6”, 205lbs, 43 years old, and in reasonable shape (for having a desk job). Also, I’m surfing in very cold water most of the year, so generally in a 5/4 or 6/5 wetsuit. All that said, any board suggestions? I’m interested in the Sweet Potato, and was thinking of the 6’2”, but then I hear dire warnings about how you need to get the volume of grovel boards just right (generally warning not to go with too much volume or they are too floaty and don’t catch waves easily; this runs counter to everything else I read about volume/wave-catching). Anyways, thought I’d see what you think, or might recommend. Would the Sweet Potato be a good choice, and any sizing thoughts? Or would you recommend something else like a Modern Highline or maybe the Seaside (or something more fishy)? Also, I'm not sure if the higher volume in the Potato would help offset some of the shortness given that it's quite a drop in length from my 7'10", or if the amount of volume actually makes it harder to control when up and riding (i.e. the “bar of soap” opinions I’ve read). Sorry for the essay, but would appreciate your insight if you get a chance. Thanks!

      If you are strongly looking for a performance groveler, I'd recommend the 6'4 sweet potato based on your weight, height, waves surfed and wetsuit thickness. Having said that, I'd also consider the 7'4 Takayama Scorpion (see my video demo). Same volume as the 6'4 Sweet Potato but more proportional and a surprisingly great all rounder. Best of luck!

    HI, can you tell me the differences you noticed between itp8 and walden mega magic8? do you think the ITP version 8 maintains good wave capture? which one runs better and which one do you prefer? tks you🙏 good surfing

    • @surfboarddemos
      @surfboarddemos 6 місяців тому

      I'd choose the Mega 7'2 over the ITP8 because it is a bit quicker, has a little more volume and turns better. I'd choose the ITP8 over the Mega Magic 8 as it is more loose and trims much better. Thanks

    Mashup or seaside at 44 liters for east coast waves?

    Incredibly wide board. Was it too much volume?

    • @surfboarddemos

      It's the lowest volume board I own. Very loose and skatey. All surfboard volume should be based on age, height, weight, wave conditions and surfing style.

      Two completely different boards. The Walden has 12 more liters of volume than the Greedy Beaver. Waist high and up, I'll take this board. Waist high and below, the Walden.

    Hi there again, Iam think to buy the Evo in size 6.0, but before I formalize the order, can I ask you if you feel in this sizes (6,0/6,2), the board to much corky, bigger board and loose performance?? Everyone said this model should ride in small sizes, however for me a weekend warrior, I need volume other wise I do not catch any waves. Thank you for your time, Best regards and good waves

      I'd go with the 5'10 or 6'0 Evo. Have you considered the Takayama Scorpion 2 or Firewire Greedy Beaver? Very fun boards and super easy to catch waves.

      @marcolima7074 7 місяців тому

      Thank you, I have considered that models too, however, I like small boards, where the feet are always in right spot and it’s more easier to turn. So with your experience the 6.0 Evo does not feel corky and a boat? Thank you so much for sharing your experience and time

      I've never ridden the 6'0 Evo. I ride the 6'2 Evo and I am taller and heavier than you are, so you need to figure that in as well. I would go with the 5'10 if I were you.

    Love your content! Was wondering if you’ve tried the Modern Double Wide 7’4” (72L) and how it compares to your favored Mega Magic 7’2” (65L). I’m torn between the two (38, 205lbs, beginner, SoCal).

      I haven't tried the Double-Wide but I'd be hard pressed to think that Modern Surfboards would make a better big boy board than Steve Walden. I also have demos up of the Walden 8'0 Mega Magic and the NSP Double-Up. The Megas are my choice. Best of luck!

    How do you feel about it as a longboard alternative / for small days ? i heard people saying its a terrible small wave board

    • @surfboarddemos
      @surfboarddemos 8 місяців тому

      A terrible small wave board? Never heard that one before. As far as the Sunday being a longboard alternative, I'd recommend the Takayama Scorpion instead. Trims and nose rides better.

    • @KC-ro9ro
      @KC-ro9ro 8 місяців тому

      @@surfboarddemos yeah, several people told me it needs a bigger open face to shine and is kinda lacking as a smaller wave board or longboard alternative for when the swell is small... You disagree ? whats your opinion on 7'0 and 7'3 for that purpose ? im 5'11, 180 lbs, my small wave range is covered by my one of my longboards but i cant really carry it around when i travel haha ^^ the takayama seems great, but slightly too big for me for travel unfortunately.

    • @surfboarddemos
      @surfboarddemos 8 місяців тому

      @@KC-ro9ro I recommended the Takayama Scorpion because it has a very similar template to a longboard. The Sunday is a completely different shape than a longboard, so having trouble understanding your considering it for a longboard alternative. The Sunday excels in 2 to 6ft surf (check my other 2 videos posted). That being said, if you are looking for a longboard style ride, the Scorpion is the way to go. The 7'4 Scorpion has the same amount of volume as the 7'3 Sunday. The Scorpion 2 Surf Tech sizes are 5'10, 6'4, 6'10 and 7'4.

    • @KC-ro9ro
      @KC-ro9ro 8 місяців тому

      @@surfboarddemos my bad yeah, when i mean longboard alternative, i mean more in the wave range of those "small wave longboards". Something that would go well in longboard spots, does not need to surf like a longboard. Was debating between the 7'0 and 7'3 for that, but theres so few actual ride infos on that board (youre probably the most detailed actually) and the few opinions i saw said its not a good board to fill your quiver in the small wave range
