Thanks for making this install and setup video. I just wanted to make sure I did my install correctly. Mission Accomplished! I'll be purchasing other products from you as well, i.e. wireless adapter, amp, etc.
Can't wait to get mine put in. I've had Covid for the past 5 days and haven't been able to get in the garage. Thank you for getting mine for me.
Thank you, we have been battling Covid as well, my shop is down 3 guys right now
I've been waiting for this video on head unit.
Another great video. Thanks! God Bless!✌️😇👍
Thank you very much for the update. I've been looking at your videos about this equipment and I'm very impressed.
We are too, thank you for watching

TOPNOTCH sales & service! Thanks for ur great content!
Thank you John!
Just installed my SoundStream HDHU14+ in my 16 Ultra Limited. There were some differences in my bike compared to the Road Glide but it’s all good I figured it all out. I appreciate the video. The Apple car play is awesome and the sound is fantastic. Thanks
We have a video for your bike too How to Install the Soundstream Reserve HDHU.14+ GTS Style Radio in a Harley Davidson Streetglide

Thank you Brother now that's what I'm talking about great job and grt content. Be Blessed!
Thank you
Great speakers, using them in my 17 SGS. Love the stereo, wish I would have waited instead of doing the GTS.
Thank you for watching!
Great explanation and video ! Just one remark...I think you forgot to move the black metal plate from the old to the new radio.. Maybe good to mention to do that.
We did move the plate but did not show it in the video, I moved it between shots of the microphone install but yes the top of the radio has the threaded holes for the bracket that the upper fairing vent snaps into.
I'll wait for the updated unit with the built in Nav and XM!
I don’t know about built in Nav, not saying it isn’t possible later versions could have it but I really like Apple Maps and google maps over any integrated navigation, far more accurate and always up to date. Sirius xm also has far more content and channels available through their app at a lower monthly rate too
Just received this exact kit today for my 2015 RGS. It currently has Boom stage 2. Really looking forward to CarPlay and better sound. Hopefully I don't find any gremlins when I remove my fairing 🙂
You will need to remove the boom stage 2 speakers and amp
So yes the radio looks fantastic and works as advertised. I bought one and bought some speakers they recommended.
Now for the rest of the story. I installed everything and it works fine. However there is no adoptive sound. Meaning as I speed up and wind increases the sound also increases. My stock Harley did that but no after market will do that. Which is important because with a helmet on I can barely hear the radio.
So I called Volunteer audio and asked if I did something wrong and I am mow told I need an amp which is another $800.
This is not Volunteer Audio’s fault. It is my responsibility to know what I am doing but I would have never done this install if I had known this from the beginning.
If you don’t have a budget go for it. If you’re like me and on a budget I wouldn’t do it again. $1300 down and I have apple car play but I can’t hear it.
John, if your not going to buy an amp, adjust all 13 eq bands up to +4, this will give you some more volume. Yes you will need to use the thumb controls and turn the audio up as you go faster, the radio should be undistorted to full volume
Cool feature with an Android phone (Samsung S20 Ultra).
I can run Waze on the radio and Google Maps on my phone, which I have mounted on my handlebar) at the same time.
I set my destination in Google Maps and it will give me turn by turn through the stereo while also showing Waze on the radio.
Just thought I'd share that for the Andoird users out there..😎
Hello awesome video.
You mention cutting the speaker wires to create high level inputs instead of RCA cables.
I have a Sony 5000 and I am running two diamond audio amps. With a Rockford DSR1.
Would I benefit from changing mine from RCA to high level?
If so can you explain how to do that?
Thank you
I have an upcoming video that will explain how to do this
@@volunteeraudio
Awesome can’t wait to see it.
I am using all 8 out puts from the DSR1. And I am using all 4 outputs from the Sony to the DSR1.
So in my situation the DSR1 has RCA for the 4 inputs and the 8 outputs.
Would I have to eliminate the DSR1 to create the high level inputs/outputs?
Thank you for your time.
Hello guys, great job you do and I love watching your videos.
I am from Canada and own a 2015 Street Glide Ultra Limited with Boombox GT. I am not a big user of Apple CarPlay and only ride approximately 3,000 miles a year but I want some good sound on my bike. Can I get a good upgrade with Hertz speakers + a new Amplifier keeping BoomBox GT for now?Or other combination you can propose?
Tks for your help and keep on going with the good work.
You can flash your factory radio and add one of our hertz plug n play systems to get a great result, but they do sound even better using a Soundstream radio
Is it normal to have a little gap at the base of the head unit when installing it? I’ve installed mine and noticed the base of the unit has a 1/4 in gap at the bottom but the top is flush to the dash.
Your factory radio was the exact same, Harley puts a piece of foam there
How do the precision power 6.5 compare to the Mmats cx601? I’m running a 400 watt RF amp to 4 speakers. Thanks!
I’m sorry but I don’t know enough about the mmats speaker to compare
Hey, I am a big fan from you and your channel, greetings from Germany. Is it right, that u put the hdhu in an remove the stock speaker for the hertz neo? It works without amp? thanks for all
Yes it sounds great without an amp and even better with one, thank you for watching!
Good Afternoon! Is there a way to make the Passenger audio controls mounted on the Factory Harley Tour pack work on a CVO Ultra Limited?
Thanks very much for these great videos!
There is no plug n play solution to retain these controls
@@volunteeraudio Thank you!
I love mine. And install was a breeze.
Hey jay can you explain exactly how it’s done and what they mean by bridging a amplifier ?
We do not bridge are amplifiers on 99 percent of our installs, bridging is combining 2 channels into 1, increasing output to 1 speaker but it usually limits the impedance that can be used and increases distortion of the output
quick question i have the sony radio in my 2015road glide i havent been able to use my thumb controls do u have a module for that radio or do i need to purchase the whole soundstream radio

I have a question, in my 2017 Street Glide CVO, if I push the button on the right of the handlebar, on the original screen I see the outside temperature, is this function also available in this new radio?
Only on the hdhu14si, not the 14+

Hey Jay waiting on that Hertz HMP 4D amp install video…
Soon
I have a 2014 hd trike glide where be a good place to place the microphone 🎤, please any help will be appreciated
Behind the windshield so the wind won’t effect picking you up, we run the wire at the edge where the outer fairing meets the inner at the left side of the windshield
@Volunteer Audio Thank you very much for your help will try once the weather gets better here in TX and thanks for the video on how to update the system.

@@volunteeraudio I hooked up the head unit to my factory 4 speaker system and not getting any audio out of the speakers. Is this the downside of the 4 speaker setup? This normal behavior and requires me to buy these?
Great Vid! I just bought the Soundstream to replace the GT in my '16 Road Glide Special. Could use a recommend on the speaker setup in the fairing. I purchased DIAMOND AUDIO PRO SPEAKER KIT INCLUDES MSPRO65 + MO75T HORNS (copy/paste) setup. How would you recommend I connect the speakers to the Soundstream harness?
For sure you need to cut the Soundstream harness at the exposed speaker wires, run from the radio to the input side of the amp high level input and connect the output side of the amp to the bike harness side
I’m assuming you also purchased and amp, if not we have a plug n play amp setup using a hertz motorcycle amp
If you dont have an amp yet just connect to the factory leads for your 6.5” speakers and we offer a t harness to add your horns without cutting the wiring

Installed the Soundstream tonight! Excellent video to go back and watch if you need reference points! Thanks y’all!
For that system no dsp needed, with more speakers and amps dsp definitely needed for improved sound!
We build systems for riders, 95 percent of our customers would not gain noticeable improvement with a dsp but would possible add another component for failure. There are times when dsp’s are beneficial and in future videos I will explain when we use them and why they are needed. If you live for competitions and have multiple amps and run separates active then a dsp is needed.
@@volunteeraudio I just like the sound of running my speakers active, and playing each speaker the frequency they are meant to play at. Thank You for your explanation. Appreciate what you're doing.
I was told that this would not work with factory CVO apps and speakers is this true?
Correct it will not turn on digital boom amps, a future model will
When do you expect the next gen unit to be available? Thanks
Early summer
Does this work well with a Soundz Customz system

Hi, whats happend on the CVO-Models or Models with HD-Amplifier on it?
They don’t work, factory boom amps are data turn on which this radio does not support, a future model will

How to Add Wireless Apple CarPlay to the Soundstream Reserve HDHU.14+ GTS Style Radio

@@volunteeraudio Not worried about Apple. I'm looking for a wireless solution for Android.
@@Darbre56 I don’t have a verified solution yet
@@volunteeraudio FWIW, I just received a dongle from a crowd funding offering from a company called AA Wireless. It plugs into the USB connector in the glove box and creates the wi-fi connection needed for Apple and Android Auto. I'll install it this weekend, and see if it works. Thanks!
Hi! Did I miss something the SS radio is a 2 ohm system and hertz speakers are 4ohm I was advised not to use this configuration.
I’m looking to replace my stock speakers I have the SS HDHU 14+.
Almost every amp used in cars, trucks or motorcycles are 2 ohm stable but they also are 4 ohm stable. Too much false info saying you must run 2 ohm speakers. The hertz speakers are so much more efficient that they are still louder than using most 2 ohm speakers plus you have the ability to add additional speakers and run only 1 amp if you do more future upgrades
Thanks I appreciate the response and clarity.
Would you ship the whole kit to Australia?
You can calculate shipping on our website
Will it do ipod
iPhone, not iPod, it’s an apple thing, if it does CarPlay it will not support iPod
what volume does this HU distort at? 42?
If you leave loud off it goes to volume 50 clean, I tested using a DD-1 and a -5db 1khz track
I have not tested with loud on yet but it sounds clear at full volume
This came out a year after I bought the Sony 7000 from fathead. Now I gotta unload that lol.
And Fathead is now no longer
Hey how are you doing hi I am wondering if they did an upgrade on that radio yet you mentioned it in your video. Looking for one for my 14 CVO limited. I’m actually heading down that way on Saturday I should be down there for a week or so I don’t know. Pigeon Forge Gatlinburg Maryville not far. If you have the upgrade put one aside get a hold of me I’ll give you a call give you a card to hold it and I will swing by it should take you that long to install I don’t want to change anything right now with the radio. If not please keep me updated God bless you and yours
It’s not available yet, maybe next time, God bless and be safe!
@@volunteeraudio Thanks for getting back to me if you think about it let me know I’ll make a trip
We can buy this setup direct from you?
Yes you can
Tried to install mine and didn’t work. It was wayyyy to close to the ignition switch with the gasket. Took the gasket off and it was touching the gauges and was still a no go. Completely stock 2012 street glide standard. Sent it back.
This video was on the 2014-up radio, here is a link to the hdhu9813sg and what you needed to do, ua-cam.com/video/XzPe3BsEcBg/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared. Following these directions it would have fit
@@volunteeraudio no wayyyy!!!! I had no clue!!!! Thank you. I’ll try it again!
These head units put out less voltage than a sony unit so you will need to adjust your gains if youre coming from a sony unit such as myself. but is a kickass radio no doubt!!
We use high level input and have to adjust the gains down compared to any Sony other than the 7000, far less electrical noise when using high level input and more vibration resistant too. The 7000 could not be used as high level in since the internal amp was so large.
@@volunteeraudio I'm referring to the Sony 5k. I'll have to turn my gains up on both my amps my only conclusion is the soundstream puts out less voltage than my Sony unit did. It's not near as loud as a direct swap using the same 10 band EQ.
@@ryandrake4748 are you using high level in or RCA, we found high level was stronger on the Soundstream radio, as I have said many times we don’t use the rca outs on either radio in Harley installations
@@volunteeraudio I'm using low level inputs. But also used low level on the Sony so I don't see how the spl is lower unless the RCA output is lower than the Sony RCA output. I haven't had a chance to get my meter on it yet but that's the only thing I can assume at the moment.
@@ryandrake4748 the rca output also changes with loud on or off, may need to be on for full rca voltage? I have not tested rca output as we don’t normally use it. High level was strong and clean
Where would my gps wire plug into?
@@andrewward4486 it does not on the 14+
Hey my radio wont update is this a common problem
Only if you don’t get the files downloaded correctly
Watch our update videos and follow them exactly
Doesn't seem to be a viable replacement if it loses some of the functions of the original Harley-Davidson radio
It also adds radio functions the stock radio cannot do, all lost features such as cb and headset ability are not used by most riders
If you don't want to hear the engine noise or the wind noise at 85mph, I'd suggest you don't really need a motorcycle...lol
There are all types, and we attempt to make them all happy
The video has no sound.
Need to wait on the video to load, thanks for watching
Do you have a system that will work with a 2018 CVO Road Glide?
We do if your willing to change your amps and speakers, if not there is another version of this radio coming later this year that will retain the factory boom stage 2 system
@@volunteeraudio I am willing to entertain it. I would like to keep the same size speaker in the bags and the electronic locks. Is that possible?
