@@axemansjazz6670That’s because it was an absolute bug-fest when it first released. All Bethesda games are pretty buggy but this was one of the worst ones when it first released.
12:20 My personal favorite part about FNV's Hardcore mode, is that it is a mode, not a difficulty. You can do a playthrough on the easier difficulties while still enjoying survival game elements. Survival modes don't have to mean "everything is a bullet sponge".
I've always felt survival modes should be the opposite of what they often are. If you're going to attach them to a particular upper difficulty, at least make everybody the fragile fleshbags they're supposed to be. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly handles this really well imo. Pop someone in the head, they're done. His buddy pops you in the leg with a single bullet, you're going to have to figure out where he's shooting from all while moving like a snail, get him before he gets you again, and then use some vodka and bandages, maybe even have to find some antibiotics if it gets infected. Way more immersive than survival just being food + enemies with 6 inches of kevlar embedded under all their skin.
Bethesda added hardcore mode in fallout 4 and ruined it they put it in the hardest difficulty which translates to more enemies and bullet sponges. They removed fast travel to waste time. Hopefully they add hardcore to starfiled but do like pathfinder were you can toggle on/off features like eat & drink, sleep, fast travel companion permadeath
@@jeb791 didn't play f4 yet but if they dropped fast travel, is time adjusted to be a bit slower? I am using slowed down time in almost every Bethesda "RPG-like FPS games", because even if geography is a bit "condensed", manipulating things and thinking is still as slow as in reality.
@@andycraig6905 yeah pretty much. I'll go a bit more in depth because both F3 and NV shooting mechanics are different and have their own benefits and I hate it when one is cast to the side without any thought: With ironsight aiming in NV, there IS weapon sway, but wherever the ironsight is, the bullet will go. So that means accuracy does not actually have an effect in NV, it depends on how well you can control your mouse in relation to the target on screen which will always depend on your skill as a player. With F3, there is weapon sway and an accuracy penalty that worsens or betters depending on you character's stats. With no ironsights means no indication of where the bullet will go so no matter how skilled you are as a player, bullets will miss if your character can't shoot (exception to the rule is snipers). So to heighten your accuracy you have to close the gap, like you would in previous Fallouts. It's basically real-time VATS. So yeah, both have their perks. I won't knock NV because tbh it's more fun/actiony. But I prefer the character skill because to me it's more enjoyable seeing my character progress.
@@G-DORA that's an interesting way to look at it I've never thought of that but also in NV your character skill and your strength determine how steady your weapon will be in order to shoot through the iron sights,so it's not only dependent on the player's skill Also no iron sights doesn't mean there is no indication the bullet will go,you aim with these Little spots in the middle of the screen, the bullet might won't go straight in the middle as you said the skill determines the accuracy but it's not 100% skill based
@@christiansantamaria7233 It needs to be remade. The graphics are really bad in some spots, the animations are generally terrible, the combat is super clunky and the DLC could be massively improved upon (yet it's still one of the best games ever). If they remade it all and included the DLC as a base game it would sell millions easily.
Im happy to see this game get more praise, but I never actually knew it was underrated. Come on it has more praise videos than the NCR has troops and occasionally the player count exceeds fallout 4.
I liked this game before it was cool. Before Fallout 4 came out, it was considered "the worst thing to happen to Fallout". Post-FO4, the game has done a whole 180. The fanwank this game gets these days puts me off of it.
New Vegas was my first experience with any Fallout game, and I was blown away at the sheer mass of it. I am actually currently playing through Fallout 3 and am having just as much fun.
I started with Fallout 3 on Xbox 360. I finished the main quest, but not all the DLC yet. I own Fallout New Vegas for PC, and can't wait to finish 3 and move on
Gotta make a quick note, the character creator is kinda the same but New Vegas reintroduced traits which were absent in F3 for some reason. The perks are way more creative in New Vegas as well.
Fallout 3's "perks" were literally +5 to certain skills and that is the only perk i can remember. Sure there were some cool perks but it doesn't stick like New Vegas' perks.
Most of the perks or traits FNV brought in were existing in the original Black Isle games. They were creative... in the late 90s. Still, FNV is the greatest 3D Fallout game, arguably.
Exactly! Heck, that was the whole point when it comes to the original intent of making Fallout to begin with! The first two games made by Interplay also have traits and perks that drastically alter how you character is built!
Don't forget companion quests, and how you solved them determining their perks AND the rest of their lives as seen in the epilogue! It made them more three dimensional and easier to become attached to.
@@443char I mean if you give a different studio a year to make a game with your same broken engine reusing assets, of course they're gonna have bugs. Bethesda set them up for failure and yet they defied the odds making a classic game
New Vegas is one of the best RPG's ever made. Builds felt different and exciting. Quests had multiple ways of completion. Companions were more than meat sacks. Weapons? Holy crap the game is a love letter to John Moses Browning. Hardcore mode is a gem, DLC fit in perfectly. I can never say enough good things about this game. It's biggest feature that bethesda doesn't have is that it trusts you as a player to motivate yourself and make your own decisions. Bethesda decides your motivation, back story and reactions. New Vegas lets you shoot all quest givers in the face if you feel like it. It's your toy and you can break it if you want.
I do love how I can murder pretty much everyone and you just gotta manage how to avoid the assassins that get sent after u, but even then that was the best way to get money, the legion assassins I murdered provided like 90% of my income to my current character and gave me good weapons I hoarded to repair
He was referring to its critical reception during its release where it was very much underrated. He literally showed the low review scores at the beginning of the video.
Among the many other features of the game, I always appreciated the ability to break down and build ammo. It added additional benefits to picking up ammunition even if it was a type you didn't need. You could always break it down and use it to make something useful.
The first two were very good CRPGs. New Vegas is a legend. 3 deserves some love for the shift in gameplay that made the franchise the behemoth it is today. And 4, for being the most accessible graphics and gameplay-wise for newcomers.
Agree. I know it's popular to shit on Fallout 4, and I can see that the story wasn't super great, especially following New Vegas, but I felt like the gameplay itself was amazing in Fallout 4. It felt more like a shooter to play and in general was very smooth overall. I do credit Fallout 4 with making the Brotherhood of Steel a more balanced mix of the goody-goody ones from Fallout 3 and the original incarnation of the Brotherhood of Steel. Plus, the Prydwyn was pretty awesome. New Vegas was just on another level, so it seemingly lowered the one before and after because of how high it hit.
Fallout 3 is the best imo maybe from nostalgia but new Vegas is a god tier game can never get bored of playing either going to be a fallout fan til the day I die lol
i agree with giving credit where credit is due to 3, but i don't think 4 "being accessible" is worthy of praise in this day and age, especially coming from a company as rich as bethesda. You don't get a medal just for showing up with your pants on.
@@lizardface110 bad comparison. I'd actually praise it for trying new things. Like giving unique abilities instead of just percentage increases for level-ups, which many pretend rpgs do today. The change in mechanics and upgrade to the shooter experience was badly needed and well done. It's visual accomplishments as well are incredible. The base building is actually a first in the series as well and has a lot of potential. They did far from the bare minimum.
I played 3 first and 3s always been my favorite lol I don't know if witch fallout game you play first means it'll be your favorite but I think it might have something to do with it, probably nostalgia.

New Vegas is considered a masterpiece these days. I do remember it being really rough upon release with the bugs, but once it got going I did notice how well designed the Quests were, opening up the world and aiding exploration rather than hindering it.
Played through NV over 5 times and it never got old thanks to just the large amount of choices that are so affecting to the story of your character, especially the dlc endings. With mods, it feels like a completely different game.

NV really shines in the DLC. They're all very different, but all really well written and paced. Reading the last entry of the Survivalist's diary in Honest Hearts is the only time I've welled up playing a video game.
One really sad fact is that it was that the Metacritic score was ONE point under the necessary score for Obsidian to have received a MUCH DESERVED AND EARNED bonus for all their hard work and extreme hours they put in to get the game out by deadline. Arguably, it’s not impossible to say that not receiving that bonus lead to Obsidian losing the vast majority of their most talented developers, many from Black Isle..
Great to see New Vegas getting it's much deserved credit. This was my first fallout game. I bought a used copy on my xbox 360 purely out of boredom to help pass time as I was away from home during a christmas break my freshmen year of college. To my surprise this game was so much fun. I thought I'd play it a few hours a day and play something else...NOPE this game with it's bugs (I mean this literally and mechanically lol) and everything kept me playing sun up - sun down. I remember being just immersed with the freedom of exploration and stumbling upon vaults and new enemies/factions. I played 1 and 2 after I beat New Vegas and loved those as well. Then When Fallout 4 released I bought it and played the it and the Fallout 3 copy that came with it. I still hold New Vegas as my favorite of the bunch.
I see fnv appreciation vids almost every other week, it took awhile but it's been getting its due for a few years now, partially thanks to the flop and disappointments that were F76 and F4
@@jaaaaaaaaaaaaaay thats just like your opinion man lol, we could have the F4 vs F 1 - NV debate all day long but it comes down to personal preference. Personally, I like my fallout games to have strong choices/consequences and great reactivity, two facets Fallout 4 lacked in. The series was created to be an in depth *RP* game, meaning the game was much more about actually being able to define your character through your choices and actions. Fallout 4 is a game where you are a pre determined mother/father character with very little to actually define your character, its also virtually impossible to play an evil selfish character in the vannila game and it exists in a very contrived way in the Nuka world dlc. Fallout 4 was much bigger into having craftable settlements and having a more cinematic experience that the RP elements got dumbed down in favor of more streamlined mechanics. F4 doesnt even have a reputation or skill checks for fucks sake. F4 is not a bad game but it is a very watered down *Role Playing* game
@@notimportant8643 In terms of graphics and combat? Fallout 4 Fallout new vegas wins in everything else, from the story, characters, endings, world, maps,DLCS (Lonesome road is the best dlc ever)
How about the introduction of iron sights, completely changed the combat style of Fallout. The DLC, some of the most emotional gameplay I ever experienced was the ending to some of these DLC. Even some of the funnier less-serious DLC had amazing stories and wer thoroughly written. Multiple home bases hidden locations and tons of Pop Culture references Fallout New Vegas is the only Fallout that deserves a remaster. One more thing the DLC actually added new endings to the game that were connected to the main game rather than Standalone endings. Outstanding
There's so many things that make FNV great. I love it because of the gameplay. Others say it's great because the story and writing. Still others say the dlc is what makes it great.
I felt like one of the major reasons why the Fallout Newvegas story was so diverse in such a short time because they take heavily from the van buren project. While not everything survived like choosing your race from humans ghouls or super mutant, plenty of the story was in general laid out and the main story and dlc basically came from it, though touched up a bit and changing some events like when you meet Joshua Graham. Still my favorite fallout game and one of those games I always keep installed, like Vampire the Masquerade. I can always have a good time picking it up and just playing it.
I'm a gamer who doesn't really care about the writing or story. I love open world rpg's where i can just walk around and explore and do my own thing. It's funny to me when people talk about how FNV is great because of the story and writing because I agree it's great and one of the best rpg's ever made but I think it's because of the role playing. And i like your taste in rpg games. As good as FNV and VTMB are imagine if they each had another 6 months to a year of development time,
@@halo3soap114 - You hould try out VTMB if you like rpg games. It is a older game and you should get the community patch for it. But it's a great rpg. I can't wait for part 2 but I think it's delayed.
@@halo3soap114 Its a great game, its alot different from FNV but has a similar sense of choice and consequence as FNV, also has the most entertaining dialouge of any game I've ever played imo, definently recommend picking it up on a steam sale, only caveat is you have to mod the game in order for it to work because the steam version is broken out of the box, fortunately applying the mod is super easy. It can also be got on GOG with the game fixing patch already included in the installation
The modding community made this game legendary. The vanilla package has quite a lot of features and content, and it was rushed out for delivery because of Bethesda being annoying, but all the extra stuff that's come out over the years made this game into my favorite RPG ever. Plus OWB and DM were especially strong DLCs.
Almost the same thing that got STALKER on the road. The mod comunity is the reason many games become relevant beyond the initial release... the diference is NV got some mods from devs (like jsawyer mod) and stalker devs were even more ambitious
@@filypefx haven't gotten into STALKER but it seems fun. I tried Metro and it just left me wanting more variety but I liked the atmosphere so I think I'll sink myself into the STALKER series.
@Monochromatik imagine villainizing Bethesda and making such a hilariously bad claim. Why would they want the game they are publishing and just bought the IP of to fail? Then you claim obsidian "have brains unlike bethesda" yet look at their latest game. It vanished off the face of earth in less than 1 week. Stop being so exaggerative. It isn't that serious.
I know people who loved 3 and never gave NV a real chance and i feel so sorry for them. I love hardcore mode on NV only game where I have to plan a destination, route, and literally pack my guns, ammo water, food, heals, and meds as well as get a good nights sleep and head out early in the morning for maximum rest energy. It like going out on a adventure. leveling up and accumulating a stockpile of supplies and gear feels so rewarding when it was all slowly hauled back from some adventure far away.
I just remember how immediately interested I was in fallout 3 while looking through a game informer magazine . Was instantly in love when I got it . Shocked when I heard new Vegas was out too. Took me a bit to get it but it quickly became my favorite. Truly the golden era of gaming in my mind . Now playing Vegas on pc with a bunch of mods and having a blast !
The thing i loved about the Bethesda open world games compared to newer open world games is back then you generally wanted to go out and explore every corner of the map and were usually rewarded for doing so
Bethesda and Borderlands both have that. Encouraging exploring their worlds by hiding things in every nook and cranny. I wish more open world games had the level of detail Bethesda puts into their games. Everything in the game is handcrafted, there are skeletons arranged in certain positions, it just makes me enjoy playing it so much more. But I know handcrafting an entire world takes forever, which is why their games are in development for so long :(
New Vegas was made by Obsidian aka Black Isle studios which was the old Dragonplay a division of Interplay. Bethesda does some things right but also makes some dumb decisions and is incredibly lazy AF.
It's insane how Microsoft owns all the original guys behind the Fallout series. They own Bethesda and Obsidian like mentioned in the video but they also own inxile who make the wasteland CRPG games, and Brian fargo who found inxile was also the founder of interplay (who were the owners of black isle who eventually became Obsidian). Fargo was the executive producer of those interplay/Black isle Fallout games. So basically the entire history of the Fallout franchise is under one banner now which is crazy 🥸
Unfortunately Todd Howard alluded to fallout continuing to be restricted to Bethesda in an interview, I would (not a joke) give my left foot for another fallout made by Tim Cain, Leonard B. and Brian fargo
I was replaying it again during quarantine, and fell in love with it even more (also isn't it weird how people started talking about the game nowadays?), also back when I played first I could barely run the thing lol, and now it has mods that let you run it at 120hz and stuff it's amazing. Also another thing I noticed is how the most fun (imho) way to play the game is right there on the cover or in your face - gambling (rush to vegas at the start with some luck, using the 1 or 2 stealthboys you get at the start, gamble away and get the implants), revolvers (lucky is the best overall gun in the game imo and just fun to use with all the crits, while sequoia is for when you need heavy fire power), and light armor (gecko backed hardened leather armor with the light touch perk works great), while before I was messing with power armor and energy weapons, avoided gambling completely, and didn't try hardcore mode, and it just wasn't a very fun way to play the game lol
I run a little different than you. Which is why I love this game. It's such a sand box. I stack ally points in luck and intelligence at the beginning then get skilled perk and wild wasteland or skilled and 4eyes so I can get double perception and knowing that I can take 2 less special in perception and add them wherever else. I go heavy in barter and science and you stack caps. I usually have 15000 caps just following the long road to Vegas and I will have way more if I take my time lol.
@@jordanford9320 exactly, I remember doing many many little campaigns, where I did the main quest while following a specific character story. It's really fun to experience this games writing and world, especially upgraded with mods!
Fallout: New Vegas is what kick started my love for the RPG genre of gaming. Everything from the amazing actors who gave their voices to the dialogue, right down to all of the awesome content and unique weapons, and locations, is what made it so iconic and memorable for me and many other players alike.
I absolutely agree with you on that one! On top of that, it feels like a true sequel to the first two Fallout games in terms of the original continuity that Interplay made when they were developing them! :D
Love when Falcon talks about a specific game. That's where the passion really blooms, because he really gets into it. It's just cool, you know? Like listening to a fellow gamer go on and on and you're just glad someone shares that interest. It doesn't matter what game he's talking about either. His Dynasty Warriors 9 rants still make me laugh. 😂
That thought that anyone would see New Vegas as anything but the best entry in the franchise is absolutely mind blowing to me, though I only played it for the first time in like 2016/17 so I got it post patches. Fallout New Vegas is my favorite game of all time
I have nearly 1200 hours into new Vegas, and I still haven't made every choice, talked to every npc, or passed every speech check. The talent Obsidian had with new Vegas was, is, and most likely will continue to be unparalleled by any other game.
And yet I turned off the Outer Worlds when the game had me do a side quest to help my lesbian crew mate get a date after I found out I, the player, had ZERO romance options. Flabbergasted.
New Vegas is one of my top ten games. I played it for hours, and I'd never played a Fallout game before, so my very first instinct was to go straight to New Vegas off across the barren wasteland. I was torn apart in minutes. It was hilarious. I played New Vegas to death, and like many others, we still haven't uncovered everything in the game. The better I got at the game, the more fun I had. There was still so much to explore. One of my favourite memories was when I was at NCR camp, trying to talk to an NPC and I accidentally stole a spoon. and I thought, hopefully no one saw that, I'm just going to leave quietly. Cue fifty NCR soldiers chasing me down across the wasteland, at first threatening me, and then just a conga line of NPC dialogue, and then my game crashed. There was something about the bugginess of Fallout that never got to me, everything always ended up hilarious. Also, the amount of times you could accidentally cheese a complicated quest was a huge bonus. I loved the characters, the environment, the weapons, the sheer amount of dialogue, it's absolutely mad. Also, the only reason why I bought the game was because I saw the sniper with NCR regalia on the cover. I thought this game has to be awesome. One of the few times I judged a book by it's cover, and it absolutely paid off.

They seem to remake everything these days so why is no one attempting to remake this? It's literally one of the most beloved RPG games ever made, it would literally print money for whoever remakes it. All they have to do is revamp the graphics and sound, eliminate the bugs and glitches and keep everything else the same, it's a no brainer. Oh and make it available for ALL consoles, not just the X-box. I had so much fun with this game, I spent hours an hours just hunting down Sarsperella bottle tops to use in the factory machine, a simple little mundane task that gave me hours of fun lol I never got to complete all the DLC's because they were riddled with bugs and when i installed them after completing the main game, they slowed the game down so much that it became almost unplayable, it would be nice to finally get to play these.

My first playthrough, I was determined to join the Brotherhood of Steel. I had no idea if this was even possible in the game, I just wanted to do it. And they are off the beaten path, so it took me quite a long time to even find them. Then having a series of quests to prove yourself before you can join them was awesome, it was exactly what I was hoping I could do. When the NCR then ordered me to destroy the BoS, I was not going to do it. If that's what was required to finish the game, I'd just refuse. And imagine my surprise (and joy) to find that you could come to a compromise between the NCR and BoS, and allow them to co-exist. It was awesome. A truly amazing RPG experience. That said, the game launched in an absolutely HORRIBLE state. It was flat-out broken. For awhile, people had to grab a d3d.dll file from a completely different game and copy it over the top of FalloutNV's dll just to get playable frame rates. That other dll essentially disabled all post-processing effects, so it looked like garbage, but at least it was playable. Before that, most people got

Recently had the chance of playing New Vegas again. I played it once when I was younger not knowing I discovered a gem. The game is just good. If you want an even more in-depth look at this game, watch the Act Man review it. The number of endings, is just wow to me. How could a game in 2010 have so many endings, so many crucial details and choices could have been made.
Ok but the way New Vegas created dialogue choices based on your skills and traits even ones that you wouldn’t necessarily think would effect dialogue is the single most revolutionary thing this game did and made the immersive role playing mind boggling. And is something that no other game released since New Vegas has really replicated.
My favorite was when you didn't have a good enough medical skill to diagnose Caesar and you made up a really stupid sounding disease. I can't remember what it's called at the moment but it was hilarious. Especially with how annoyed Caesar gets with you afterwards
Plus the unique options if you have low Intelligence, or the ability to BS your way through something with very high Luck, actually made the dialog really fun.
It shouldn't cost game devs so much more to invest in high quality scriptwriters rather than the college-grade uninspired dross that passes for most game dialogue. FNV's characters have depth and clear individuality, without being too contrived, trite or overly quirky. There are people who know what they're doing, and there are a bunch of weak chancers who probably got the job because daddy pulled some strings. The second type need weeding out and game companies need more creative discretion, like Obsidian's work on FNV proves.
@@tomread8748 100%. I feel like games as a narrative experience have really diminished since the 2000s. Instead AAA games are much more focused on big buzz words like graphics, and combat so writing and dialogue has really fallen by the wayside.
Seriously, what the fuck is this video? I'm a fan of the original games, and NV is the only 3D Fallout I've ever played. I've got about 1300hrs logged, and it's one of my favorite video games ever. Having said that, if anything it's overrated, because people just can't shut up about how great it is, and sometimes have trouble admitting it's flaws. A fantastic game can still be slightly overrated, and I'd say that's closer to reality than underrated. The only people who might be underrating New Vegas are the folks who've only played Fallout 4, that's all I can figure.
5:55 "... New Vegas... and that's where the real story begins." I don't know how many times I got to Novac, got that first home, and spent untold hours sticking around the area, adventuring out and about in the wasteland COMPLETELY having forgotten about the chip and tracking down the guy who shot me in the head. As if my custom, generally after playing for a lengthy period I either dropping the game for a while then returning to it and deciding to start a new character, or while playing I find myself wanting to take all that I had learned in my latest play-through and start a new playthrough to see how I fair. I honestly don't know how many playthroughs I had to go through before I FINALLY got to New Vegas, and I'm pretty sure back when I played on my XBOX 360 I found the location of New Vegas itself confusing and complicated. If anything, discovering the Gun Runners was easily the most useful part of discovering New Vegas. I guess back then I just wanted to go around discovering different places and characters while engaging in combat when attacked and basically have some mindless fun. Wasn't until my 20s, years after the release (possibly even around a decade after release) that I sat myself down and decided, okay, I'm gonna play this game properly with story in mind and I'm not gonna waste my time with too many side-missions even though I fucking LOOOOVE side-missions! In the end, I think I went with an NCR ending first because I like how they're fairly orderly even though they're spread thin. Second time around, I took the Yes Man ending in which I'm in charge. Honestly, if House wasn't such a condescending prick, I'd probably have been his loyal minion and did what I could to help him because he CLEARLY has done a lot of good for the Strip. I mean, if not for him, it woulda been nuked. He PERSONALLY over 200 years ago had the funds and technology to help prevent a nuke from landing on the Strip! Then, over 200 years later, it's actually a functioning location giving various people a livelihood, entertainment, etc. Granted there seems to be a bit of cannibalism at play which is very unfortunate, but hey, it's the post-apocalypse. You expect proper fine-dining when all cows have two heads? I was dumb back in the day, didn't appreciate good story. As I got older (and developed a part-time self-employed job as a writer which a few months ago I managed to make my full-time job), became more mindful and thoughtful, I was able to actually focus on the main plot. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my mindless fun. Finding/customizing firearms, collecting firearms/ammunition as well as ammo components for crafting, learning the different ammo types, encountering new random locations/NPCs/events, OH and stories that you need to deduce based on terminals/evidence that you can find around the area? I love it, absolutely love it, and all that I had learned helped me big-time when I FINALLY started to appreciate storytelling/roleplaying and so went about learning all I could about the different factions and the decisions I had to make, etc. But yeah, it's funny to me that it IS true that the story doesn't truly begin until you get to the Lucky 38, yet I spent so many beloved hours playing JUST for fun, completely ignoring the main quest, just exploring the world and seeking better weapons and armour and what not. Even though to this day I may very well have still not yet gotten power armor training in New Vegas, may have never once dawned an actual proper suit of power armor lol The armor from the DLC Dead Money, the security armor, is probably the best I was able to ever find. God that was difficult DLC to get through... but I digress. Yeah. In all my time playing New Vegas on the 360, I might not have once actually gone and visited all of the different casinos and what not. I really don't think I had interest in delving that deeply into the story, I just wanted to go out and find stuff and shoot shit! But damn... Vault 22. THAT is something I discovered on the 360 as I recall, and I found it HORRIFYING! Most memorable vault to date, easily. I mean I love Vault 88 in FO4 that you can build yourself, SUPER cool, but Vault 22... those spore creatures... and that was back when I was still deeply obsessed with zombie stuff. I mean I can still appreciate zombie stuff, don't get me wrong, love the genre even though I haven't touched Walking Dead in YEARS, but yeah, I was TERRIFIED that if they got me infected, or if even the air itself got me infected, then I might turn into one of those horrific creatures. Good times... bloody good times...
Who hates the Legion? I actually felt bad for Caesar and due to my character have a high skill in Medicine, I'm actually able to point out that he had a tumor and I did surgery to remove it after getting a new Auto-Doc in one of the vaults with some surgical equipment!
Playing Dead Money in Hardcore Mode was one of the best (and frustrating) gaming experiences I've ever had. A great, great game (mainly because I got it after most of the major bugs were fixed).
It's definitely a slow burner. I remember thinking it was a charming addition to 3 but didn't feel too different. 4 felt so advanced and had such glitz. But over the years, New Vegas is the one I've come back to most, love the setting and radio the most and ultimately still feel to this day I've not discovered everything.
Truly the best story and some of the best gameplay mechanics. Started playing again for the first time in a long time recently, and I was shocked by some of the dialog. I forgot how raw the concepts and story was. It's truly bad ass.
It is without a doubt, one of the best RPGs I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Now that Microsoft holds this IP, there is nothing I would love more, than for them to open the gates for bringing the game in to a modern remake, utilizing modern engines. With modding in that framework, it would live so very very long. The old engine is clunky, and I always mod it to replay it now - but the replay-ability of New Vegas is high tier.
Fallout basically got The Last of Us 2 treatment, but in reverse. The fans all really loved the game, but the Media/reviewers didn’t. Just like how they think TLOU2 is a masterpiece of storytelling, while most people thought it was absolutely mediocre.
This will always be my No. 1 game in my whole life. How I love this game, it's art direction, story, characters etc. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played
I played this when it first came out, i was 12. I was so into CoD/Battlefield/Madden and the such, and this one game open the world for me. I fell in love with it and i began a long rabbit hole of single player games. Hell, I am still playing this game, New Vegas is the best game ever
I wouldn’t call New Vegas underrated, maybe undercooked. I don’t mean this in a negative way as this is definitely my most loved game of the series besides Fallout 4. Many fans of this series always put this as their number 1 and those who are new to the series know if this game, whether from word of mouth or the memes. It is clear however, that the game needed more time in the oven to further flesh out it’s story. It was evident when the DLC came out that these developers could do God’s work with a little more time. It was clear that the major sufferer of this short development cycle was the Legion as much of their story was significantly cut in comparison to what a player receives when doing an NCR run. Hell, besides a Yes Man run I’d say most speed-runners would choose a Legion run just based on the lack of content alone. So overall, it’s not underrated, just slightly undercooked. However, that’s okay because this game is one of my all time favorites!
@@ciciciaphascain4143 There's a ton of cut content that has been cancelled because of time constraints. Obsidian had to add some ideas into DLC later when they had more time. The game by itself is amazing, but if they had 6 months more for more content, it would be godlike, on the level of Ocarina of Time. The bugs got ironed out in later patches mostly.
Fallout 3 is still my favorite in the series was my introduction to the series when I was 6 years old can’t believe I’m about to turn 20 and still am never bored of 3 even as a console player I’ve never had a gaming pc to try out the mods on it and as well with Vegas.
@@InMaTeofDeath I've been curious how fast 3 and NV would load with nvme. My pc is somewhat old and can't utilize it, so I'd love to know the results of them in Bethesda titles considering their loading screens are 1/4 of the game.
@@InMaTeofDeath aye bet idk shi about gaming pc been a console gamer all my life I needa get hip. The series x loads fallout 3 and nv super quickly it’s insane how fast it is compared to original Xbox one
This was my first game in the series. I’ve played 3 and 4 since. But I’ve always thought that those 2 just didn’t compare to the experience I had with NV. Wasn’t sure if it was nostalgia but over the years I’ve seen the way they made this game and how it played out. This is definitely the best experience I’ve had with a fallout game.
Okay I need to make a few things clear here about this game. It is an absolutely great game and I play it all the time and it deserves all the praise it gets for its quest design, writing, and improvements on the combat and leveling system. But people keep praising how amazing it was that it only had like 18 months in development while Fallout 3 had 4 years and yet has so much more to it. Well, that was because Fallout 3 did over half of the heavy lifting. The game engine, UI, the VATS system, half the game assets, half the weapons, most of the monster AI's, all of it was already made for them. They didn't change the combat system, they just tweaked it towards their designs (admittedly to VERY good effect). On TOP of all of that, there were a lot of ideas that came from the scrapped Fallout 3: Van Buren project that were rehashed into the new system, including Caesar's Legion and the Hoover Dam. I'm not trying to knock Obsidian's work, it ended up an excellent game with amazing DLC, but you have to realize that they were able to focus on so much content because that was basically all they had to make. In effect, Fallout New Vegas was 95% Fallout 3 DLC. But that also meant working with a game engine they weren't familiar with and likely didn't have the ability to fully crack. As such they were sort of hamstrung in their ability to fix it to their own ends and I can guarantee that the whole game is a spaghetti code nightmare on top of what is probably a spaghetti code nightmare (That being Bethesda's infamously buggy code). People think it was unfairly criticized when they play it today and it seems buggy but worth it, but you have to realize that is after TONS and TONS of patches. The game at release had basically a 1 in 6 chance of a complete progression block bug that caused the game to crash when you entered the Strip, and could only be circumvented by wearing an "Old Cowboy Hat" when you entered the Strip. I am not making that up. I hate to say it, but those bugs detracted from the experience enough to justify that rating. That said I think that Bethesda should have shouldered more of the blame since it was their messy code they were working with. I would give Fallout New Vegas NOW a 9 out of 10, because it still has a LOAD of jank. But back then, a 7 or 8.
This isnt an opinion new vegas is the best game ever made by a large margin although 3 is my favorite. It brings a level of freedom that makes most other games feel "on rails" and unenjoyable. It's not even fair to compare other games to NV. San Andreas had that feel for it's time but NV mastered it and is yet to be beat.
I've always loved Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3, they're two of my favorite games and I could probably write a thesis about what they both do right and wrong and why they're both two of the greatest games ever made. But since this is a youtube comment, I'll just say this: I've tried to play Fallout 4 from the start on 3 different occasions, and I've never come close to finishing it or wanting to finish it. I've never even bothered playing Fallout 76. I've played Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 collectively 10+ times, easily. Clearly that's at least somewhat telling as to the quality of those games comparatively.
I mean, at least in Fallout 76 they let you choose you own motivation for the game without railroading you. To bad they forgot to put in motivating options other than leveling up and exploration.
Wow. I'm surprised New Vegas wasn't received that well when released with so many mixed reviews. It was one of the only games I had on pre-order for Xbox 360 and was stoked when I finally got to play it. For me, I found the game to be quite enjoyable and felt like it was a great addition to the franchise, and still do to this day. Glad you took the time to give it some positive due diligence.
I'd rather use mods and such to update it, if it got remastered or a remake there's a high chance it would lose things that to this day makes it popular. Leave it as is imo.
It had some very bad bugs and issues like crashing a lot on 1 specific console and even pc However it was not the dev fault as there was a variety of issues 1 they were using well the same engine as fallout 3 2 they had to and were forced to make the game excluding the dlc in 16 months which resulted in issues Then they churned out all those dlc in 1y 3 this then resulted in obsidian going bankrupt almost as Bethesda didn't give them there bonuses and fined them because it didn't reach the target reviews score average They were able to survive from a Kickstart game leading to them staying still now and not closing
I remember playing this game before going to middle school when it came out. I hope they get Chris and inexile to make a fallout game. I would love to see how it turns out :,)
i like how everyone, including myself, came around to loving fallout new vegas but it costed fallout 3s popularity... f3 was THE fallout game almost everyone played for the first time, and its popularity only grew with fallout 4 OFFICIAL announcement (meanwhile nv was still somewhat ignored or hated around that time). people LOVED f3 because, while it was a simpler rpg to hardcore fans, it was a breath of fresh air for a lot of casuals and new fallout fans at the time, and we wanted bethesda to go bigger with the player choice/rpg elements for fallout 4, but instead we got a much more dumbed down game with a linear story/choices and crafting/building... This left a bad taste for f3 fans and most turned to a previous fallout game that most of us never gave a chance, fallout new vegas, and by that time the game was a bit more stable and it offered what we pretty much wanted from fallout 4 and eventually it led to a lot of us realizing that bethesda cant make a fallout game and discovering that obsidian can only make true fallout games (especially after finding out obsidian had a significant relation with fallout) and fallout 3 became hated and obsolete. yes it didnt age well in some parts but it had many things going for it as well, like its map and atmosphere etc, its just sad seeing a beloved game get neglected now after a sequel, even today
Hmmm, well you can actually do it yourself, it's not hard tbh. Visually, my NV looks better, than FO4 vanilla and nearly zero bugs. Also shooting is better as well. If you're new to modding then take a 30-60 min, watch MO2 tutorial videos and then when you know what you're doing, you can actually make NV to your taste. :) Atm my FO4 most likely has more sh*t to do, has more immersion and realism plus feels tons more lively and has better graphics than anything bugthesda/MS will come up with. Modding is everything, trust me you get a taste of that and then you'll be a conditioned lab rat like me, who has over 3K hours in FO4 and around 500h modding it lol. Atm running wee bit over 750 mods and game's stable. Plus it's still fallout4, no anime chicks with mommy milkers running around etc. =D
I played like 2000 hours of the game when I was younger. I’m kinda killing time till I go back to it. I’m really just kinda hoping it gets a remaster or even better. A “reimagining” that bring in some cut quests/ features, maybe new one all together. The game is the reason I get bored of so many RPG’s and is kinda where I set the bar for story content as a whole.
The game is literally one of the most praised RPGS of all time, I’d say it’s perfectly rated.

I also liked the fact that you can aim down sights on non-scoped guns. It felt really different when I came back to FO3 after playing NV.
One of the main reasons I couldn't go back to fo3
Ya that change alone completely changed the feel of the gun play in first person and made it alot more fun overall
It's also nice to hit an enemy target with a scoped gun fifty meters/yards away.
Imagine being a game developer and not understanding how a gun works.
FO3 sucks
I’m pretty sure no one’s ever said this game was underrated

This game receives a never-ending amount of praise, possibly even to an unhealthy level.
Dude so true. This title is bullshit.
Exactly what I was thinking; I’ve never experienced that reality.
Underrated? I’ve enjoyed all fallout games I’ve played ( never played tactics)

Also the iron sights was a big addition compared to the fallout 3 just zooming closer to the weapon's barrel
I get things like people soaking up headshots for gameplay but not having sights in a first person view is kinda trash.
I preferred F3's aiming because it depended on your characters skill, not your own. Which is more faithful to tabletops, tabs, and classic RPG's.
@@G-DORA huh, I didn't think of that. Kinda like rolling a d20
@@andycraig6905 yeah pretty much. I'll go a bit more in depth because both F3 and NV shooting mechanics are different and have their own benefits and I hate it when one is cast to the side without any thought:
With ironsight aiming in NV, there IS weapon sway, but wherever the ironsight is, the bullet will go.
@@G-DORA that's an interesting way to look at it I've never thought of that but also in NV your character skill and your strength determine how steady your weapon will be in order to shoot through the iron sights,so it's not only dependent on the player's skill
Also no iron sights doesn't mean there is no indication the bullet will go,you aim with these Little spots in the middle of the screen, the bullet might won't go straight in the middle as you said the skill determines the accuracy but it's not 100% skill based

I can never say enough good things about this game. It's biggest feature that bethesda doesn't have is that it trusts you as a player to motivate yourself and make your own decisions. the pitt in f3 added that system originally

@@notimportant8643 Fallout 4 was my favourite fallout, unlike new vegas its actually underratrd

One of the best games of all time IMO. My intro to the Fallout universe, and such a perfect story, and perfectly balanced playthrough.
As good as FNV and VTMB are imagine if they each had another 6 months to a year of development time,
You sir have exquisite tastes, vtmb is my 2nd favorite first person rpg behind this
Never played VTMB but I'm an avid fan of FNV and excited to play the new VTMB.
This is bullshit. Every Obsidian game was buggy and unfinished at release.
If the "rushed" game can have so much content .. I wonder what would we have in a proper launch lol
The thing i loved about the Bethesda open world games compared to newer open world games is back then you generally wanted to go out and explore every corner of the map and were usually rewarded for doing so
And the side quest they gives you allies
Valheim. Explore away.
But I know handcrafting an entire world takes forever, which is why their games are in development for so long :(
Rdr2 does that for me, but NV was the golden era
Can’t wait for FNV 2
I would love to see them all work on a New Fallout title (instead of Bethesda).
@@Gatorade69 Especially because if somebody else doesn't make a new Fallout then we'll be waiting on Bethesda for a long time.

No. Its not underrated. Its a famous franchise 😀
Which mods let you run at 120hz?

If you want an even more in-depth look at this game, watch the Act Man review it. The number of endings, is just wow to me. How could a game in 2010 have so many endings, so many crucial details and choices could have been made.
I keep you guys on all day at work. Thanks for always putting out awesome content. You guys rock !!

"... New Vegas... and that's where the real story begins."
I don't know how many times I got to Novac, got that first home, and spent untold hours sticking around the area, adventuring out and about in the wasteland COMPLETELY having forgotten about the chip and tracking down the guy who shot me in the head.
This game was and is a master piece
There is no way a modern AAA dev could do NV justice. NV is great because it is the antithesis of AAA devs.
Very happy to see gameranx talk about NV, hopefully more players will come to it, and acquire a good taste for games
Fallout basically got The Last of Us 2 treatment, but in reverse. The fans all really loved the game, but the Media/reviewers didn’t. Just like how they think TLOU2 is a masterpiece of storytelling, while most people thought it was absolutely mediocre.

I've had this in my backlog for over a year. I really need to play it
I wouldn’t call New Vegas underrated, maybe undercooked.
This game is great but I wish Obsidian was given another 6 months to a year.
@@williamgregg6339 i dont think the game will be better it still gonna be buggy because there a lot more work to do.
@@ciciciaphascain4143 HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!
I'm kasrkin now
Fallout 3 is still my favorite in the series was my introduction to the series when I was 6 years old can’t believe I’m about to turn 20 and still am never bored of 3 even as a console player I’ve never had a gaming pc to try out the mods on it and as well with Vegas.
The switch to PC would be worth it even without the mods. Putting the game on a SSD or NVMe basically eliminates load times.
2 was incredible. Put over 500 hours into that game
Definitely not nostalgia, NV is far superior to 3 and 4, there's just no comparison.
I hear fallout, I watch
Lmao same
Fallout is the best game. 76 ain’t it tho should’ve kept it a single player game.
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes me wish for a Nuclear Winter
New Vegas is in my opinion, the pinnacle of video gaming in terms of being a true, loveable art form, and I'd want nothing different
This isnt an opinion new vegas is the best game ever made by a large margin although 3 is my favorite. It brings a level of freedom that makes most other games feel "on rails" and unenjoyable. It's not even fair to compare other games to NV. San Andreas had that feel for it's time but NV mastered it and is yet to be beat.
yes, you get to NEW VEGAS STRIP, only to find its inhabited by 2 people hahahah. not
Fallout New Vegas is widely understood as one of the best RPGs, I wouldn't call it underrated. It's a very good game
Easily one of my top 5 games. Absolutely love this game. Wish it would get released on Switch.
On Switch? Would it even support a remastered version😂
I loved the armor and clothing you could equip in FNV, crispy af wit the leather coat and armor
Fallout 4 gets better after a while, I also quit and retried but eventually came to love it
@@drakesilmore3760 Fuck around with friends, only motivation really
Fallout 3 is underrated!!
Almost nobody talks about it!
This was one of my favorite fallout games. Only complaint was how long it took to walk everywhere 😅
Thats why you jump lol
Theres also a sprint mod for PC
My complaint for 3 was how long it loaded. Luckily my 360 burned up and I upgraded my PC and never looked back.
Agility boost your running speed
You preordered it and didn’t have any weird bugs at launch?
I would love to see New Vegas remaster or remake with all cut content as it was originally meant to be.
Gotta be a remake in a new modern engine to do the game Justice
Maaann I would scream in joy if it got remastered and then I could maybe get my friend to finally play it such a tragedy he wont give it a try
Instead we get Skyrim released for the 100th time 🤣😭
I'd rather use mods and such to update it, if it got remastered or a remake there's a high chance it would lose things that to this day makes it popular. Leave it as is imo.
Waiting for that trailer to be released with all DLC included!
If you guys want to talk for hours about how awesome this game is feel free. I'd listen to it.
NV was my introduction into the Fallout franchise. I loved it and was confused as to why it had so many negative reviews at launch
It had some very bad bugs and issues like crashing a lot on 1 specific console and even pc However it was not the dev fault as there was a variety of issues
1 they were using well the same engine as fallout 3
2 they had to and were forced to make the game excluding the dlc in 16 months
which resulted in issues
Then they churned out all those dlc in 1y
3 this then resulted in obsidian going bankrupt almost as Bethesda didn't give them there bonuses and fined them because it didn't reach the target reviews score average
They were able to survive from a Kickstart game leading to them staying still now and not closing
Because it's bad and has a lot of game breaking bugs even today.
True I never played it for a while cause I thought it was a gambling game cause of The picture but I tried it and fell in love sm mysterious things
I dream for a HD remaster for New Vegas
I remember playing this game before going to middle school when it came out. I hope they get Chris and inexile to make a fallout game. I would love to see how it turns out :,)
thanks for putting Carlitos Balá in meme format ;)
i like how everyone, including myself, came around to loving fallout new vegas but it costed fallout 3s popularity... f3 was THE fallout game almost everyone played for the first time, and its popularity only grew with fallout 4 OFFICIAL announcement (meanwhile nv was still somewhat ignored or hated around that time). people LOVED f3 because, while it was a simpler rpg to hardcore fans, it was a breath of fresh air for a lot of casuals and new fallout fans at the time, and we wanted bethesda to go bigger with the player choice/rpg elements for fallout 4, but instead we got a much more dumbed down game with a linear story/choices and crafting/building...
New Vegas was goated, Fallout 3 was underrated
I am hoping one day that they take the time to remaster the game and fix all the bugs. I really want to see this game in it's full potential.
Like comparing Predator and Predator 2. 2 is underrated imo. Very sci-fi and action packed.
