Penny I believe that it looks so much shorter not becuase she cut a lot of it but because every curl is so defined and bouncy and perfect so there is a lot of shrinkage....maybe after styling it yourself you will find that the length comes back
Totally agree with this. When I get mine cut, they don't take that much out but because of how they do the hair and that they "heat" dry it there is a lot of shrinkage going on.
@@najmoaadan5056 Because they had a huge scandal, their products were proven to be very damaging to curls and made a lot of people lose their hair. It's different rewatching it since before the scandal they were the most well-known hair brand for curly products
Don't forget you have tighter curls now and more shrinkage without the dead ends weighing it down! Your hair might look shorter but it also looks even fuller, it's beautiful! I waited from the day you announced this on your ig live feed until today for this 😅😅 ...
I know it sucks to lose length, but those ends REALLY needed to go. The first time I gave in and cut off my stragglers I only took 2 inches, but my hair curled SO much better that it sprung up almost a foot. I've always wanted knee length hair, but I don't think my texture can take it without looking ratty. Your hair looks amazing! I loved the clip thing for lift that your stylist did.
Gurrrl your curl pattern is poppin! 😍 I'm currently in cosmetology school and I plan on getting deva certified because there's no one that is within a 50 mile radius 😅 btw your hair grows so fast so don't worry about the length. Love you Penny 😊
Penny.... I love you... but my opinion... Healthy hair is better than length... Once your hair is healthy from roots to ends; the length will come I know... It's depressing when you cut off alot of hair😢😢😢😢 but when you realize how EASY!!! it's is to wash and style it feels refreshing 😄
Agreed. She looks way better with this length. Most of the shoe that was cut off was super fine and damaged. It only looks shorter because the curls are tighter.
Don’t worry about the shrinkage. My hair looked super short when I got a deva cut but it grew so fast! And it grew out so nice! When I would get a regular haircut my hair would grow out looking kinda bland and the curls were too weighed down. But with the deva cut my curls are still bouncy and voluminous even when it grew longer!
Don’t worry about the length mamita. It just shrunk because of all the moisture it happened to me on my Devacut, exactly two months ago and my hair is so healthy and long it went above my bra strap to way below it in just two months! I definitely understand your feeling I was distraught when I came out of the salon but super happy now. Enjoy your healthy hair.
I got my first DevaCut last Thursday, at a local salon. To wash and style, the stylist used No-Poo and One Condition Decadence (which surprised me since I have wavy, not super curly, hair), then applied the Ultra Defining Gel and Frizz-Free Volumizing Foam when my soaking wet hair was flipped upside down, gently scrunched out the excess water and product with a microfiber towel, then put in some DevaClips and stuck me under the dryer for about 20 minutes. While my hair felt "hard" from all that product, the stylist did a bit of scrunching to "break the cast" once my hair was dry, and it looked and felt great! I've since tried applying my hair products at home in the same way, while still in the shower, and it's very effective at keeping my waves defined. Love the shirt, btw!
I had a devacut this past summer and it was the best experience I've every had at a salon. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is recently going natural because their stylists can really help you understand your hair.
As a hairstylist I'm always on the fence about Deva cuts because curls don't always curl or loosen the same so for hair types up to 3b I always believe its best to wash and use wide tooth comb to cut. I also feel like cutting it curly gives blunt ends. But this stylist did a wonderful job! She had to cut that much cuz they were straggly. Just get trims often to avoid this Healthy hair is always better than unhealthy long straggly hair
Agreed I mean she also gave her volume at the roots and did zero praying hands sounds like styling. Nothing wrong with the actual cut girl needed it for sure
I got my first DevaCut last week and I'm loving it!! I got about a foot and a half of hair cut off, and the volume and short length is amazing. It's extremely lightweight and even curlier now that there is not so much dead weight on the bottoms. Your hair looks amazing!! I wish I had known about DevaCuts long ago, my hair has been through so much trial and error!
Its looks so much better the curls that were making your hair long was a few curls and its not so drastically short like when you first did a chop on your channel
it does look really healthy even though they probably go in too much with the styling products without accounting for individual hair types. but your hair seems like it grows really fast so i think you'll get it to a length you'll like soon enough
Your hair will grow really quickly because it's nice and healthy now! After my first devacut I literally laughed at how little my fro got! But in 4-5 months all of my layers had grown out and I was getting length back. I hate the hooded dryer too! My stylist only leaves me in there for 15 min and then finishes with the deva diffuser which is fun. I think yours looks so healthy! And you'll like it more when you do your own wash and go!
Honestly girl! I know it's shorter than what you expected but...it looks amazing! Your curls have more bounce and look more ALIVE!! I had to recently cut my hair short because I was holding on to the length but my ends were just looking thinned out at the end. Cutting it brings back the bounce. It looks bomb girl!
you are the reason i found out about the deva curl products and cut and i am so happy you did these videos because i am beyond happy with my new hair!❤️
Your hair looks so beautiful and HEALTHY! I have curly hair too and I find that the Diva cut really defines my curls. I try to let my hair air dry just to keep it healthier but when I MUST use a blow dryer I use the diffuser that looks like a big hand (made by Diva Curl) and it is fantastic! Also helpful is using an old t-shirt to pat my hair rather than a towel. Makes it much easier to untangle and not frizzy.
Your hair looks amazing!!! It’s nice that your first experience was such a positive one. So many of us have salon horror stories where we were told how hard to manage our hair was and it was burned straight.
It's so pretty! I had my first Deva cut over a month ago when I started my cg journey. My stylist was incredible and included in the cost was a step by step tutorial on how to do my own DevaCut next time I'm due for one. I've noticed a few stragley pieces since then and used the method to trim those up, I can't believe the improvement in my curls!
Penny, look at your before and your after. Before, you only had a few long strands with the majority of your hair 6 inches higher. After, it's full & thick and all one length. The after looks awesome! Whenever I get mine cut, the curls go into a tight shock & then loosen up a bit. Hope you love it!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like how devacuts do they styling 🙊🙊🙊 too greasy and almost too perfect looking imo!! Lil bit of frizz is good
I am on the internet now looking for a place by me. I've went so many places and my hair is super thick , unruly, long , med coarse , and stylist always assured me they were pros .... no..... triangle hair, uneven, etc. This makes sense as far as the way to cut the curls and style. Conditioners, and cocunut oil are amazing . I'm giving up my flat iron for however long it takes for my hair to recover which can take months to years. I feel better and have a great confidence boost when I wear my hair natural . Compliments are always great . Love your video .
What a great cut, your ends look SO MUCH HEALTHIER! I definitely always support healthy short hair to damaged long hair. After awhile, your hair will be even shorter when you finally get around to cutting off that damaged hair anyway, so why wait? My hair was down to my belly button, but only full down to just under my collar bone, with it really thinning out belly my nipples. Growing it back out from scratch now. I had to cut it all because the henna straightened my loose waves, and I didn't like the color. Getting a trim every 4 months, and I tell my stylist (brownie points with curly hair that's been cutting hair for 30 years) to always just cut off my dead ends and keep it the same length. My hair is growing it quite nicely. I never realized how much of my ends were dead before because I've never gotten dead-end trims so often.
It looks much better than it was before the cut. The cut took off all those straggly ends that just didn't look right. It looks beautiful and hair does grow back. ♥
Thank you for doing this video. I had a lot of people tell me that a deva cut was the way to go but I’m a single momma. I was skeptical AF that 45-60 quote I got was worth it. This was very helpful 🙏
To get charged $78 sounds crazy, but they charged me $154 when I got my first DevaCut! Honestly, I felt like I was paying for the treatment more than anything. I mean, they treated their customers very well (for example, they offered coffee and free food, and comfy seats). However, the actual haircut+styling wasn't anything mind-blowing.
I had a devacut a couple months ago. I had similar feelings about my Devacut. I had to remind myself that the stylest has never worked on my hair before so how could she know exactly what I like? Remember that :) Your hair looks great, as always!
your hair looks great , wait until you style it yourself. After I got my devacurl cut I hated it until I styled it myself! I absolutely loved it 1 month after the cut my curls were so defined and bouncy, be patient it'll look so, so good in a couple of weeks!
also, it seems that each devacurl cut specialist has their own "style". I found a lady that also has curly hair and I felt that she did the best job, she didn't use as many products as you experienced and did NOT rake through my hair.
omg u saved my life i was going to go out and buy a really expensive hair straightener well not anymore!!! okay i’ve become obsessed with your channel xxxx lol
Omg!! I just got my first ever Deva Cut yesterday(yes she was open in New Year’s Day) and I felt the exact same way. I loved all of what she did to my hair and how she took her time. It seemed she didn’t cut too much off st first, and I too had quiet a bit of split ends, and then.....once it was all done 🥺 the hair was soooo much shorter than anticipated!! But I felt like...:ok it’s shrinking much more now that the curls are so defined. And... SAME!!! The style is not like I normally style, but still it was a really nice treat!! So, new year ... new take on my hair!! She told me all about the Curly Girl Method and that is how I found u on YT. Love you btw 😄 now I’m checking my daily routine products and sure enough I have some shopping to do. Thanx for all your tips Girl! Keep up the good work 👩🏽🦱
Your hair looks gorgeous!! Remember, it's just hair and it will grow longer again. lol! My first devacut was five years ago. My stylist, glennlovescurls, cut off eight inches! Holy moly, I panicked at first but my hair looked sooooo much better.
I just had mine a week ago and I love mine. Cut a bit off and now it curls so nicely and the bonus is that I won’t need another cut for about 4 months or more. She said it will grow out nicely. I rebooked for a root touch up in 4 weeks though. My 1st time , Deva cut/root color touch up was $145! But I’ll only have to do that like every 4-6 months. And that’s the cheapest I’ve found where I live. Now how to break up with my other hair stylist cause my Deva stylist has my business now!
Good grief your hair grows so fast! I just watched several of your hair cut videos from 2015 and 2016, dang girl I'm going to start those scalp massages today because they are working out for you
When i got my first deva cut she just used low poo and then heaven in hair. For styling products she used super cream and the frizz free foam. It really helped my curl journey and helped move it forward
Your hair came out amazing Penny! 😍 I just got a deva curl cut today! Its my second deva cut. She dug through my hair too and cut it lol. I think that's what they're supposed to do. Your hair always looks beautiful. Your hair is so plump and volumized. Mine was super long too. Love it came out gorgeous!! 💜
The stylist did a great job. Your hair looks healthy. Your hair will grow back without split ends if you have them trimmed every 3 months. That is what I do. I haven't had a Devacut yet.
It looks great, but I do agree that they cut more than you would expect. I had one done a few months ago and they cut about half my length. And yeah, SO MUCH PRODUCT. I'm actually on a no-product kick right now and I'm loving it.
Thanks very much for sharing your experience. Trying to find a stylist for my daughter and this helped a lot to give me an idea of what her hair will look like.
I LOVE the feeling of a fresh haircut, your hair gets more defined, it's easier to detangle, hair is even ugh I just love that feeling but at the same time I understand what you're saying with all the shrinkage we have we don't want to let go of any length but the dead ends gotta go hon.
Girl I have been binge watching your videos for the last few days liking each one u are hillarious and so informative..I have taken so many tips from you to help me start my curly hair journey too!!thanxx sooo much curlypennrry lol
Oh my gah...Mija, no offense but your hair looks kinda good. I don't what you were taking about, the length looks prefect & I looks soo healthy. I have actually been thinking about getting one... My mom was a hairdresser before I was born but she did not know what to do with curls, when I was born. You (& now others) have helped me see many different ways to keep my curls healthy & yes it's still a growing experience and thank you for ever starting your UA-cam channel... Keep up the great work you do for all of us curly girls. ❤💕💖💖
I would be SO grateful if you could do a review of a Maui Moisture line of your choice, since it's one of the few companies for curly hair in my area!!
Yeah please , do a video on how to find a deva styler, I've been trying to cut my hair for the longest but don't wanna risk it with normal hairstylers. Love you ❤
Your hair looks much healthier, moisturized, touchable, and manageable. She is right to trim your hair so nothing but healthy hair is left. And keeping it trimmed will help it grow back faster and thicker. Don't let it get stringy again. Keep it blunt, thick and professional looking. It's like "don't touch my weave." Girl, you don't need a weave! Yay!
I love the cut! I have to say I like the way you usually style more than the way she styled. When you do it, it always looks so full and light with great volume. :) Gorgeous cut, and as everyone else is saying, hair grows back. And yours grows fast. :)
I love how you said you've never had your hair professionally styled that's super cool I also rarely get my hair done I think I've done it twice and I totally get what you mean about the sink omg the first time I did it I was like "why do people think this feels good"
Yes, when you have a devacut, you do have your hair raked a little, this ensures that the stylist do not miss any bits :). If the roots of your hair had a small tangles all around, that would result in an uneven cut
Omg girl, I have been watching some of your videos and they are awesome. Then I started watching this one and notice this is my old hair salon that I use to get my hair done in. I live in Washougal lol. Had no idea you were local. I’m gonna be starting the curly girl method after I wash my hair this next time. Thanks for sharing :)
I've had two deva cuts! A year and a half between the two. My stylist is a family friend and a level 2 stylist. I love it but she didn't rack through my hair at all. So that seems a little odd your stylist did that. I got the whole wash treatment the first time but decided not to the second time cause it's pretty expensive. I would t never get my hair cut another way now! But I'm not super concerned about growing my hair really long. I kind of like mine at a medium length. Your cut looks great though! Give it a few weeks to get out of the fresh cut look and I bet you'll like it a lot more!
Now it looks fuller and more even. It will look better when u style it yourself. Same happened to me with my devacut. They cut it nice but not so much with styling.
Thank you all for your awesome feedback! Would ya'll like to see my updated curly hair routine? (:
Yesss!!

Yeah, I felt bad for the stylist. She did such a good job and it felt like Penny was complaining about it even though she barely cut off anything.
I think it's just shorter because the curls are actually curling UP. It looks amazing!

It may have been longer before, but it was very uneven and straggly. It looks fantastic! This is exactly what you needed.
It looks gorgeous. The length looks great after and the curls are really defined.
The stylist did a great job. Your hair looks healthy. Your hair will grow back without split ends if you have them trimmed every 3 months. That is what I do. I haven't had a Devacut yet.
aww your hair looks so good penny! don't worry about the length it'll grow back soon! and yes we need a routine
It looks great, but I do agree that they cut more than you would expect. I had one done a few months ago and they cut about half my length. And yeah, SO MUCH PRODUCT. I'm actually on a no-product kick right now and I'm loving it.
Yass gurl, you’re wearing the idubbbs sheep shirt 😂
I was thinking the same thing lmao
+Ayyy Papa bless Ian, Ethan and Joji are daddy
CurlyPenny 😂😂😂
Yeessssss!!!!😍😍😍
OH SHIT MY GIRLLL
Thanks very much for sharing your experience. Trying to find a stylist for my daughter and this helped a lot to give me an idea of what her hair will look like.
Wow it looks so much healthier after the cut!! So shiny, too.
It looks really nice! But honestly I like the way that you style your hair better! No one knows your hair better than you do :)
Ship Your Live I think she has a vid on that. I remember a while back her doing one.
Looks beautiful and healthy!! I rake my hands through my hair a lot too. Seriously, your hair looks amazing!!
Wow it looks SO much healthier and curlier! Way better than before!
Your hair looks really good like that. The length looks good on you!
Omg your hair looks sooo moist and soft!! I love ittt!!
I like that length a lot and I got a devacut and the same weighed down thing happened but I loved the way it looked when I styled it myself
I got a devacut a couple weeks ago and my hair looks the best its ever looked.
"My hair is really short now"
Me: *Triggered*
Omg girl, I have been watching some of your videos and they are awesome. Then I started watching this one and notice this is my old hair salon that I use to get my hair done in. I live in Washougal lol. Had no idea you were local. I’m gonna be starting the curly girl method after I wash my hair this next time. Thanks for sharing :)
So beautiful!!
Theres never a right way of putting a neck in those sinks, adore your channel.
Penny's hair looks really healthy and well cared for after the cut
The lenght looked so broken. Stunning your hair right now after the devacut 😻😻
HAHAHAHA OMG YOU GOT IDUBBBZ TSHIRT, that makes my day
+Kurt Waters Hey, that’s pretty good
Now it looks fuller and more even. It will look better when u style it yourself. Same happened to me with my devacut. They cut it nice but not so much with styling.
I love your haircut, I’m gonna get my first DevaCut tomorrow and starting my natural curl journey, wish me luck.
