Sarawak is a high income state with GNI per capita US$13,205 in 2023 and the largest state in Malaysia. Sarawak is the main oil and gas exporter in Malaysia and today Sarawak is also becoming the biggest Renewal Energy Hub such as Hydrogen, SAF, Solar Energy and Petrochemical in Malaysia. This is what i can tell you about Sarawak...
Make friends with the local people and go with them to their kampungs or longhouses. That will be worth ur while and much better. You will get the genuine cultural experience. Definitely worth it than the usual tourist route.
Nah…! I don’t think this Yankee is interested in immersing in the local culture. He’s more like’grab n go’ kinda of vlogger. Just take in whatever is there. This is nothing like the JetLag Warriors couple who took us, local sarawakians, around our own backyard, which even I myself being a local haven’t been to. A big shout out to Stephen & Ivana, the warriors.
I know this is well after the fact, you have long been and gone, but for what it’s worth, I certainly wouldn’t apologise for not going to various tourist landmarks, I’m quite happy for you to just walk around wherever you are located. For me, your videos give me the opportunity to see places I wouldn’t otherwise see. Just keep doing what you are doing.😀
At 4:50 it looks like if you went downstairs there was a tunnel perhaps. Wonder where that would have led you. 🤔 ...and awwwww, thanks for having my name up there for one of the top supporters. Hi Ben, interesting video. There's a public bus to the Semeggoh Orangutan Centre. Grab should cost Rm25-35. There are two public bus routes. One is the electric bus Route 103, which is free. You'd have to take the bus early enough to catch the 9-10AM or 3-4PM feedings. That means the 6AM or Noon bus as the bus Route meanders and almost takes an hour and a half to get there. The feeding is about an hour and buses return back to Kuching at 10, 12 noon, 2PM and 4PM. So don't linger long. Some go out by GRAB and return using the 103 bus. There's an electric buggy that might get you from the bus stop to the feeding site 15 minutes quicker. And useful in getting back to the bus stop in time. Some comments about the museum. 1) You walked right under a cluster of actual skulls in the Baruk. 2) The skull you looked at briefly is the oldest modern human skull in all of Southeast Asia - the Niah Cave Deep Skull. It's about 45,000 years old. 3) The painting of the older white man was Sir James Brooke, who founded the independent Rajahnate of Sarawak...a multicultural, multi religious state for 100 years until the Japanese invaded. Most of the older colonial era buildings date from his heirs, his nephew Charles and Charles' son Vyner. Opposite the big museum is the beautiful original Sarawak Museum. They give free tours twice a day. The day before you passed right near it when you strolled through the Museum Park (with the Chinese graves and Hero monument). Another building from that era is the Astana, the Courthouse complex, the Post Office, the Square Fort, Fort Margarita (which is the James Brooke Museum managed by one of his descendents ... Jason).
actually the museum is interactive.. some of the display is meant to be touched, controlled, smelled, and having motion sensors, etc.. for example in the cave if ur touched the painting it will glow and show some explanation, the large book, if u wave ur hand infront of it, it turned to next page, object desire when u touched it it will show on the largr screen its origin, etc..
Welcome to Sarawak Ben...land of the headhunters (used to be)😂 Like the natives of north America, Sarawak have plenty of artifacts and rich history, one of the longest rivers in Borneo, the largest cave in the world and many more!! And if you have time do visit the longhouses in the interior. Just like famous activist Bruno manser 😅
Hi from CA, welcome 2 my favorite city in Malaysia, great food, museum, wildlife, orangutans & people. Take a river trip & get a tattoo! Talk 2 locals! Must be an internet case with fast speed!
Ben, there is no subway system, but you can take a tunnel under the street so you don't get hit by that truck!😂 I stayed at a hotel that was connected to that mall with the grocery store.
Hi Ben! You're doing great with your vids!!👍🏻👏🏻💯 We love ur vids!! Don't worry about not doing enough. Doing the best you can is all that's required. Stay healthy, stay happy & Be you💪🏻😊💯. Sending our best wishes & love. Happy travels🤩
Cross over to the other side of Sarawak river bank in front of Esplanade Waterfront. Take the small traditional boat to the village that sell a lot of Sarawak famous layer cake. There will be lots of cake samples you can try. No need to buy. Just eat up all the samples until you full. 😅 Last time the boat only cost less than rm1 per trip.
Kuching and Sarawak in general is for tourist seeking for a wild tropical jungle adventure in the rural areas. If it's shop till you drop, there's nothing in Kuching City. Night life, nothing much or almost practically non. CBD almost dead at night.
Ben.. all the interesting stuff is outside your window.. you should do a research on the white Raja.. the Brooks dynasty.. i can see their mansion from your window.. i hope you are back in KL.. the 31th of August independence day party starts in a few days.. the city will be lid up..
dude..like you, i kinda tried staying off coffee for a year or so..but, no, screw that ! i now realised that some caffine is needed to stay focused, and not appear dizzy in my 10-12 waking hours.
Nice video Ben. Keep it up. Interesting to see the entry charging system to the Sarawak 'cultural museum' based on whether you are a 'Malaysian Sarawakian', a 'Malaysian non-Sarawakian' and, crassly, 'Foreigner' (i.e. rip off prices). That's basically a microcosm for how the economy works, where Malaysian citizens are treated differently based purely on their race (Malay vs non-Malay), irrespective of merits or performance. It's also why a lot of things don't work in Malaysia like they should do given its stage in development. Malaysians love to segregate people by racial groups, but alas it's not going to work out so well in the years to come where it faces a massive skills shortage (due to brain drain) and will again struggle to get on the semiconductor bandwagon that it has mostly missed on two periods in the past. Semiconductor packaging is the low-end portion of the semiconductor food chain, so really one shouldn't count that in the overall geostrategic scheme of things. Anyway, I detract... good video.
Father of my Sarawakian friend told me how he had to learn the history of the White Rajahs in "middle" school. Then apparently that history was downgraded, only to be reviled recently to cater to tourists.
Bro you need to train your body to keep sleeping earlier.. It will adapt. Sleeping at 5am is NOT healthy. You can read many research on this topic. Best is by 11pm or latest 12am with a total of at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

Amazing museum which I did not know about. Sarawak seems to do things better than Peninsular

Hi Ben, you can try the Sarawak Cultural Village(living museum)
Ben, this is a MUST place you to visit before leaving Kucing. It is located in Santubong.

Gorgeous local product in the museum shop...
The kuching metro is currently being built, so as of now until 2025, there won't be any train or track less tram which would be in operation by then.
ART
there will never be any train tracks

If you do ha e time Ben, try going to Mount Hosanna Chapel. It's a unique chapel built like 3 candles

5:06 Dude you actually crossed the road without looking 😅😅, that was dangerous man. That "metro" was actually the underground road crossing thing
That underground crosswalk not subway things. You almost get hit by the lorry! Be careful and alert next time!
Took me about 3 days to finished touring the museum. I skipped the interactive parts though.. Too crowded and hygienic issues
Hope you can still do your vlogs despite the constant rain
Tourism in Sarawak is not for the cheapskates… 😅 It helps make it from being overrated and overran. Thailand suffered from that in the past…
You are right, it's for those old fashion tourist with formal attire and the drag type luggage bag.
Cheers!!!
come back to sabah and go see the muzium

Leave a suggestion or review at the counter for the hotel.
