When i was 17 in 2005, me and my friends always went there after school to hangout playing arcade games, snooker and sometimes we watched movies there. The good old times
Right! I have such good memories too, from when I first arrived in Kuching when I was 21 - watching movies there with my missus. I hope they renovate the place and make it nice again.
@GlobalGibbon yeah but i had one incident back in 2012, me and my gf at that time went to watch a movie and after the movie ends, i went back into my car and i realised my car had been broken into, someone took a box of my cigarettes and my second phone. I never want to park there anymore but that building could make a great place for restaurants.
It was 1997, before my mom and I moved to Kuching in 2002. We came as tourist, stay at lodging house at Green Hill Rd, and spend most of our meal at Medan Pelita, where I remember was quite crowded, there's shops as well. It wasn't like what it is now.
WOW. WOW that was AMAZING what a GREAT BUILDING 😮😮😮😮 Wish it could be restored But guess not 😞 Hope you get to see inside the cinemar 🤞🤞🤞🤞👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 LOVE 💕KUCHING MISS IT EVERYDAY 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
Who agrees with me that this place should be renovate as a music venue for live concert? Or maybe a event centre to replace at the star cineplax? Yes i know is a creepy place. But who knows😅
I fully agree! I think a supermarket, some food places, some offices would be good. That would bring money into the building. Then some event space, concert hall perhaps, theatre. Great potential!
Yes indeed. A lot of failed projects, or glory days that are gone. I find it especially sad when it’s buildings in prime areas. They have such potential.
I think it was before 1997 because way back then, I used to skip class for an hour and hanging out with some buddies. I was form 5 back then in 1997. Hopefully the government will turn that place into something else.
@@GlobalGibbon let me recommend you a place nearby my former school. There was an old mansion hidden within thick bushes of Reservoir Park that is opposite St Thomas school building. Way back in 1994, my former teacher told me that house was once used by the Japanese army to torcher people.
Sarawak government do something please! Instead of useless buildings such as new archive centre, science centre and the old DUN 300 million plus upgrading..use it for city centre rejuvenation so that tourism activities will pick up tremendously and uplift the city's image of doom and gloom.
What do you think about the changes to the Sarawak MM2H visa starting January 1, 2025? Deposit increase looks like it will exclude me. I apologize for changing the topic, this question is on my mind.

Whenever I pass by this building, I always thought the same thing. Thanks Nick for the exposure.
I miss this place. Arcade, place to hang out, cinema with great view and parking spaces. What more can you ask for
I was there every weekend in 1998. It was nostalgic, so many things going on those good old days.

Ala carte before..... Medan pelita.... Yeah..... If not mistake.. 🤭...
Memories.
Malaysia has many abandoned buildings. Recently I saw a vlog at rawang, jalan kemboja. Shocking. Same with langkawi or PD.

I agree that rejuvenating is a good way forward!
It would make a good zombie mall-Laser Quest? I'm disappointed you didn't go there at night.
I might have to go back at night next time!
@ spooky Sarawak adventure!
there used to be an arcade below
Nick... The section you called DVD shop is actually a book shop
Thank you😊
Aha! My bad! I had no idea😅 it reminded me of those DVD shops at Kenyalang and opposite Hilton.
Nice space fr escape room ? 😂😂.
