Hi Yan, I went to Brunei last year because I like places most people don't go. I would say, I had the best experience there compared to all other 10 southeast asian countries. The major reason is the mild characteristics of Brunei people. I was told when you blend the Malay personality and Asian muslim, that is what you get. People are so well-lived and well-taken care of in that country, so it reflects in all my interactions with their daily attitudes towars life. Brunei is so impressive, but I will say for tourists who typically want to see major sights may not like it. For travelers who loves culture and experience, Brunei is a must visit/

Hi, I’m so excited to see your coverage on Brunei. As a Bruneian here, I would like to clarify that the smoke along the highway is actually forest fire due to extreme dry and hot weather we encounter the past weeks. There were even heatwave warning from the local authorities. It’s sad to see the green trees being caught on fire at certain areas.

Bruneian Chinese here! I don’t see a lot of videos related to Brunei so it’s nice to finally see a few esp from Chinese youtubers. Saw that you went to Seria town so hope you had a chance to visit the Billionth Barrel Monument and OGDC. A night’s stay at The Empire Hotel, Jerudong or trying ambuyat (national dish) would also be fantastic 😁. Hope you had a great time in Brunei!!

Somewhere, below you have a welcome from Nepal. British Gurkha soldiers (provided by men from Nepal) assist with the security of Brunel (not sure about now). I spent a little time there as a Gurkha Officer from Hong Kong aeons ago. But, later returned as an expedition leader with young people travelling to neighbourong Sarawak and Sabah to trek in the rain forest (difficult) or go deep into the forest on boats on smaller rivers. Borneo is truly a paradise. I remember drinking beer poured from teapots pretending it was tea (alcohol is illegal in Brunel - or it was). The people are like the flowers, beautiful! Your video brought back many wonderful memories of Borneo.

Good afternoon Yan, & Flo, my goodness what a different contrast it seems after leaving China to Brunie, the first thing noticed not a large amount people & Prayers being said at the Mosque, it was interesting the old fishing villages on the water, I think the Sultan of Brunie is trying to make sure all his people live in good housing, extra, it was wonderful seeing all the rain forest trees being looked after, not a lot of people in the lake area, your guide that showed you around the fishing area also showed you the large Crocodiles that were resting on the river shores were the ones that were in the crocodile farm many years before, great video work Fellows, it being Ramadan its a public holiday & Fasting to late evening, then its time to eat as normal, loved the video Yan, keep them coming, Regards & Best Wish to you Both, Trevor.W.Bacelli. Water villages are commonplace in equatorial Southeast Asia not affected by typhoons and the coastal regions are mangrove swamps. The houses are built on wooden stilts of the nipah tree commonly found in the area. Such wood are very resistant to seawater corrosion. Water village people are mostly fishermen. The coastal seas, swamps and jungles are a rich source of aquatic foods: crustaceans, fish, plant food, herbs, resin etc. Firewood is aplenty. Mangrove wood are easily converted to charcoal. Freshwater are collected from the frequent afternoon showers (in olden times). Traveling is convenient via boats through the calm seas and rivers crisscrossing the swamps.

Thank you, Yan, for this guided tour of a place I'll never be able to visit. Your travelogues have a really intimate feeling of place, function and history, probably because you connect with the locals, and see the place you're visiting through their eyes, rather than with a travel guide. I revisited your tour of the karst formations in Southern China, one of my favourites, recently. We have karst formations here in Australia, but they are underground. Perhaps you can visit them one day, and show them to the world at large.
