this phone seriously tries to do the MOST - how are you feeling about the Sony Xperia 1 IV?
I'm liking it so far. Can you downscale from 4k resolution to something to lower resolution while maintaining 120hz as a main resolution display?

Since Apple discontinue the iPod, Sony is the only company that offer a phone+music player with good DAC+headphone jack+microSD card slot.
It’s awesome that Sony kept the simple minimalist monolithic form factor of its consumer electronics in the Xperia line; focusing more on the purpose, functionality and usage of the device rather than its distracting admiration makes it a cleverly classy product. Praises made about the target audience of professionals for the high end smartphone actually democratizes access to such a device with gaming and entertainment. Average users will eventually learn about the pro apps when venturing into tweaking or tinker with various parameters.
I'm glad Sony is actually getting better with each phone. This one almost nails it finally all around.

Sony is really doing a great job at developing their phones and carving out their own unique experience and identity in the space.
They made it more accessible but also made it more pro-focused with the added features.

@@methamphetamememcmeth3422 exactly, these "phones aren't for everyone" but i was mentioning that, there was a time when Sony was mainstream, and there "was a phone for everyone". But now it's just not, and obviously Sony is nothing in market and people just don't know this brand exist now...
Anyway, that's Sony's way now, and they too Know that..

@@amllemans they need to make a "for everyone version with a headphone jack" it will surely turns head with decent price
sony's the only flagship brand remaining that kept the headphone jack and microSD expansion, while not implementing dumb design choices like a notch just for the sake of 'slim bezels'.
i hope they continue with this direction because so many other brands have become obsessed with style over substance that they cut out good features that give a phone practical utility value
And Sony's doing it while maintaining their own tasteful style. This is pretty much the only company aside from Apple and maybe Samsung that have a distinct visual language, compared to most brands out there that just copy one of the bigger ones.

Great first look dude! I want to try this.
It's a high buy in with the phone and all the accessories but they created a genuinely powerful media production/consumption monster. They had me at Vlog Monitor compatibility and cooling peripherals. A pseudo-gaming phone with a 4K/120 hz/240 hz touch sample display that can shoot video at this level? I'm in.
i can say sony xperia 1 IV is the best smartphone in the world..A perfect smartphone the big things is the camera superb awesome ..
Sony hardware looks great, I appreciate that they don't go with the hole punch screen still. I haven't ever owned one because they're not the easiest devices to get ahold of. Curious if they're ever going to try and expand their market share again.
I own Xperia 1iii almoust for around 6 months and so far is owesome great gaming and sound owesome pictures and the option I like to use very often is LENS when I take a picture on any object , plants etc. it will give the name of the item cloths ,plants,prices etc. I take many pictures while doing trails/hiking and it's very helpful because I want to know names of plants (without downloading an APP) great cellphone 📱👍

I remember those days. The Sony videos were always pretty fun to do back then
I wish I was able to afford this. I've said this before with their pro i model, so that really says something, even if the entirety of that 1 inch lens isn't utilized.
This is a dream phone for me as I'm pretty well into photography and know how to get the best results out of any camera if it lets me. I'm a control freak when it comes to my photos and videos so Sony's approach of leaving it all on the user, with the expectation that they can handle it, fits me like a glove. The optical zoom is incredible and I'm so happy that it actually has enough range to make a significant difference between pictures.
These things on top of their very advanced photo and video software, among other additions like the dedicated shutter button and eye based focusing, make the perfect device for someone like me. No wonder their phones don't sell with how much is expected from the user and their cost, but there's nothing like them if you fit into a specific group.
Currently using a 1ii, and oh boi, I just love the manual settings on all the camera apps.

Now this is what a flagship phone should look like.
It checked all the boxes, but i would love if the 3.5mm jack came with a DAC like old LG phones. That would just be icing on the cake.
I had a V60 and couldn't use the DAC. It required a headphone with certain ohms. I'd say about 90% of LG owners don't even use it and half of that number think they are but aren't.
I got the Note 22 now (S22 ultra) and couldn't be happier. Dolby works with any earphones (wireless/wired) at any ohms.

Apparently, and even if it took years, Sony finally understood that it was up to them to adapt to the market and not the opposite.
Now they just have to revise their price a bit and guarantee at least 3 to 4 years of major updates.
It's auto mode is perfectly fine. Of course it needs some improvements, but just like auto modes of other manufacturers too. Sony's auto mode is not worse, it's just different and uses different post processing.
Sony is listening to fans. With each iteration Xperia 1 series we see food improvements. From all flagship smartphones in 2022 this one offers the most complete package. And also many unique features as well.
If you don't need 4K, then buy Xperia 5 series instead. It's almost identical to Xperia 1 series except for the screen and some little camera fucntions.
Of course having longer software support is always welcome, but I had several Sony phones which still work smoothly even without updates. And sometimes updates don't fix problems but add new ones.
Seriously, it was already annoying to hear such complains for Xperia 1iii, since it was one of the most (if not the most) well rounded flagship with many features. But it is insane to be honest. I don't understand such people. There are many others brands and different products. If you don't like this phone - go get something else and enjoy it.
I agree with the auto mode. If they start taking Pixel like photos for auto mode I'm probably never going to use another phone. It's the only thing lacking for me that's why I went back to P6PRO from the 1 lll

Hows the overheat treating you while shooting videos or heavy duty ? as its the one issue that holds me back from getting it so far ( proud owner of w810- w890 - w902 - z3- z5 and finnaly xz premium ) so i am a huge fan but hate the overheat really!

sony is getting closer and closer to nailing it. for me if they add more than 2years software updates i would already be getting one. i love the look and that it has all feature like micro sd ,earphone jack and cinematic 21.9 aspect ratio. the oled with 1200nits is not the best but good enough in my opinion.
sound should be good too. ony question left for me is how is the HAPTIC ENGINE?

What you said about not having the grip and vlog monitor is true, you can stil use it for a talking head video but only problem is you wont be using the top notch cameras which are at the back, otherwise it would of been brilliant

No bevels or curves or notches and the corners of the screen are perfect 90 degrees. And a 3.5mm jack.
Only thing is I hear is overheating issues mainly when running demanding apps or the camera at max.
Overheating, telephoto lens soft and RAW files are low ISO so noisy.
Sent mine back to Sony this phone could of been amazing but these issues need to be address.
If the Sony Expiria mark 5 has a 4k display at 144hz and 65watts fast charging i'll buy it.

Sony's phone is now a pro tool rather than a phone for general consumer. I'm really glad they're staying since basically they have no competition in the market now.
They could use some general customer demand though. Would help the mobile branch to do even more
I think this phone is the most complete package on the market now. Considering this the price is okay to swallow. Especially for pre-orders where you can get nice headphones for free.
