      This isn't a bad route to go if you are just starting in the sport. Most of our customers are repeat customers. Many start small and build their way up to their "dream" kayak after they learn more about which features they like and don't like in a kayak, features they wish they had and the water type they fish on the most. Better to learn slowly than make a huge mistake on your first kayak.

    • @ecofishingshop
      @ecofishingshop  3 місяці тому +1

      There really isn't much comparison between a fishing kayak and a kayak you can buy for $300. However, we fully support anyone who does go that route as we are happy to see anglers get on the water any way possible. It all comes down to preference. It is no different than buying a vehicle - more expensive models come with different options and perks, but that doesn't mean a base model isn't perfectly fine for some. Some people just like to get from point A to point B. Some anglers simply don't want a boat. It's like telling someone shopping for a motorcycle that they should buy a 4-wheeler.

      The Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 is a great kayak, especially if you are looking to paddle only. Many fishing kayaks can become more cumbersome to paddle as they increase in size and flatter hull shapes. If you want to paddle only, the Tarpon 120 is a good kayak to look at. Glad you are enjoying it!

    Looking for a fishing kayak sub 1000 (around $800) I'm 5'4 so dont need anything crazy space wise. Primarily would be used in creeks. Stability would be very nice aswell (im like 115lbs so it may be a bit easier to find stability being a lighter guy) Any reccomendations? Hoping to find something before springtime! Thanks everyone.

    • @ecofishingshop
      @ecofishingshop  8 місяців тому

      If your main watery type is creeks with running water, you will want to first look at your hull type. A more traditional v-shaped hull will track better in moving water (hold it's straight line) and will be more maneuverable in moving water. Pontoon or tri-hull fishing kayaks are incredibly stable while at rest, so are well suited for lakes and ponds or slower moving water.
      A big difference between a v-shape and pontoon/tri hull design is the v-shape kayak will "cut" through water better, so they are easier to paddle and better in current as you are pushing less water. V-shaped kayaks have the most stability when moving and can feel more "tippy" when at rest.
      This is a long-winded answer of saying you are probably looking at a v-shaped hull kayak for moving water. Here are three kayaks that come to mind in your price range:

      You get what you pay for. No different than house or car shopping. But we do support anyone getting on the water at any budget, even if it is not with us. Many of our customers start at a more affordable price range (say that 500-800 range) to learn whether or not they like the sport, how they like to fish and what sort of attributes they want in their next kayak.
      We typically advise our customers to start small and build over time. But there is a large jump in quality, usability, comfort, speed, agility and adaptability when you jump up in price tiers. Especially fishing kayaks.

      Much like boats, cars, reels, rods and just about anything else, there are many different tiers to fishing kayaks. It all comes down to pros & cons of each and a person's budget. In our experience, a lot of anglers start out with affordable, more basic kayaks and as they learn over time, they upgrade to ones that better suit their fishing style and needs.
      We're just happy to see people experience kayak fishing, even if that means they aren't in one of ours! Tight lines!

      Not every kayak is built for bigger water. We do have plenty of our customers who fish on coastal waters and off-shore. But, if you are going to be where there are bigger waves and more current, you may need to spend a bit more to be safe on the water. You want to look at longer kayaks with a v-shaped front to cut through waves better.

    13 feet is toooooo long

    • @ecofishingshop
      @ecofishingshop  4 місяці тому +1

      13 feet is a long kayak, but the length can be really helpful if you plan to take on bigger water with waves. Length can help cut through chop much better (it is one reason why sea-style kayaks are so long).
      But, at 13 feet, a sit-on-top kayak can get heavy and hard to move around so that needs to be factored in when considering your purchase. Luckily, there are so many models of all lengths, widths, shapes and weights to fit your preference.

      We are curious what part of this video is false? It is true, you'd have to register it, but how does that change what we featured in the video?
      Some states you have to register a watercraft if it is over 10 ft.

      Plus gas, registration, maintenance, trailer tires and maintenance and can’t get into smaller creeks, rivers and lakes. I have a bass boat as well as a kayak. Sometimes I like to back my kayak up to the lake and drop it in. Sometimes I don’t want the hassle of hauling my boat to the lake and launching at a crowded ramp.

    Imagine spending $1000,s for a kayak when you can get a Jon boat or even bass boat. I have a kayak but I’m not dumb enough to spend over $1000😂 “room for lots of gear” yeahhh okay.

      Then you probably don’t have a very good fishing kayak. Maybe if you did, you wouldn’t talk smack about other people buying something they like. I have a bass boat as well as a kayak, but sometimes I don’t feel like hauling my boat to the lake. Or sometimes I can’t get my boat to the lake I want to fish. That’s where my kayak comes in handy.

    • @ecofishingshop
      @ecofishingshop  Рік тому +1

      Everyone has a preference. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Fishing from a kayak hits different for a lot of anglers and the community between kayak anglers is second-to-none. There is an art to managing your gear that forces an angler to really be precise in what they use and what they bring along vs. throwing everything in a boat.
