Imagine driving your boat through the canals of Amsterdam and suddenly you pass a tiny boat with Anthony Kiedis and John Frusciante casually singing Under the Bridge
Something that’s so astonishing to me in the guitar’s part in the song is how sometimes the player brings out their own voice in the sound of the guitar. Sometimes it’s a scream, and sometimes it’s a whisper, but it’s always amazing how you feel like it’s as if your getting the experience of listening to a song sung in a language that you don’t understand, but you still understand the emotion it’s trying to convey.
In many parallel universes, John didn't make it and we are watching this video feeling depressed. In our universe, John survived by a miracle against all odds, kicked his addictions, re joined RHCP and they gave us californication and by the way. That's my happy thought for today.
I think it's already been said but at 0:37 when john is doing the drum interlude between verse and chorus by tapping on the guitar body he almost drops his pick.......but he saves it and keeps going because he's a fucking god.
John’s muting is next level. His ability to only let the right notes ring out is so underrated because he makes it look so easy. The main riff in cant stop sounds simple but getting it perfect is no easy task if you play it the way he does with the open D
Uhh no Elmo’s actually right… muting is fairly easy, and honestly isn’t that hard at all to do, and what he said I also agree with, John is so good for what he’s able to come up with, he’s obviously got a lot of talent on top of that, but the ability to create all the songs he has, with the Melodie’s, solos, sound etc is main reason he’s so good, muting is pretty easy lol

Mad to think this was almost 30 years ago! I am the same age as these guys and I remember listening to them over and over on a cassette in a Walkman. Life , you don't really ever consider one day going to be 50 years old or more, and then you find yourself there.

Yeah, I think the quiet makes a huge difference. He's not projecting like he does onstage, doesn't throw his voice way out. It sounds a lot like his "studio voice".

The singing is terrible! He's got average pitch at best on a good day, but he hits all the notes from an artistic perspective. If you want perfect pitch anyone could watch these idol shows where everyone sings in perfect pitch and no one gives a shit because even the shit on the ground doesn't give a shit. But even despite all of what I just wrote. It's fucking rough listening to Anthony on any day. He sounds like a handicapped dude with downs shouting for help. At the same time, I like him and I really respect that he went on Rogan

Today, it is almost impossible to do that. now at 50, i could care less;-)
Their best songs include John's background vocals. His great guitar playing and the vocals are equal in making this band amazing. Thats why he's the best for them. Josh tried and did a great job filling in, but John, Anthony, Flea, and Chad are the peak Chili Peppers.
