My nephrologist does both tests. He monitors the trends in the numbers. I have read the comment from one doctor who considered having a lower Cystatin C GFR more serious. There are other important measures, such as BUN. I use a very low protein diet plus Albutrix supplements to improve my scores.
Holly, I am happy to hear you are taking further tests! Can’t wait to hear what they say and hope they will turn out normal You weren’t stupid, hiking like that, just 17 😜 I have done lots of dumb stuff like that myself. Good thing we are kinder to our bodies now Keeping my fingers crossed for your new test
Important videos your making right now, doctors wanted to put me on life long meditation a few years back I didn’t go for it, and now with the same test they say it’s not needed, absolutely not to say it’s not important to listen to our doctors, but we have to be informed and in control of our own health. Respect and good health to you.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Mark. I totally agree. It's fine to listen to doctors but at the same time, research everything, question things and look into it all further. I hope things are better now in your situation. I've had some really interesting encounters with doctors and long ago I used to just trust them and not look into anything. Now, think it's best to look into everything. :) Thanks so much for the comment.
I’m almost like you. I been taking the creatinine test for 10 years and my range been from 47 to 61. But this last week I took the cystatin C test and it was 42 then I put it in the calculator with my height and weight it was 47. Lower than creatinine test. Can this be improved the way creatinine improved or fluctuates ? Thanks!
Do you mean the eGFR test (instead of creatinine)? Do you take supplements? Or, do you take any pain medicine like tylenol or ibuprofen? Also, you had an actual blood test for cystatin C and it was 47?
@@LifeDIY Yes it’s the eGFR test instead of the creatinine. I don’t take any supplements because I don’t have any symptoms. I had the blood test for the Cystatin C and it was 1.65 so that’s 42 GFR but then I put it in the calculator along with my height and weight it came to 47. I read the Cystatin C is used mostly for people with high muscle mass like body builders , or patients that are in the hospital since their creatinine levels will fluctuate more in hospitals due to medications and for elder people. Read that Cystatin C has other variables that would sometimes give inaccurate numbers. The national kidney org recommends the Creatinine blood work. But it seems on Google there are different opinions too. So it’s very confusing to say the least. lol
@@farshid71 yeah, it’s very confusing. My gfr for creatinine is ~100, and for cystatin c it is 76. Im stressed as hell because of this actually, I don’t know which reading should I lean towards to.
I'm sorry, but I'm just wondering how do you not have hypertension with kidney disease? Because since I've been diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy, I've had hypertension fluctuating on and off as well as some other mild complications like Anemia that I was able to resolve. I'm hoping you can share some tips and tricks with me, as I am quite and would love to live as symptom free as possible.
There are natural therapies for kidney failure but I hope you never need them. How are your kidneys now in 2023? And can I ask why you can’t eat bread? ❤
Thank you! I did an update video on this and found out my kidneys are fine. My doc basically told me I was in some stage of kidney failure. I had to pay out of pocket to get this looked at and at that time the kidneys were functioning at 100% :)
Hi Holly, I myself was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in 2018 and hospitalized with kidney failure. After this "episode" I really dug into what is the "root of all evils" that seem to happening in this day and age with health in general especially at the younger ages such as mine at 33yrs old. I have found and genuinely believe that diet has the biggest impact on us and changing mine has kept things at bay for now. If you have other suggestions or things you have found helpful I would love to hear
Hi Staci, thanks for the comment. How are you doing now? I am so sorry to hear about your health issues. I have also noticed so many young people dealing with multiple chronic health issues - and I really agree that I think it has to do with our diets or whats in the food we're eating. Things we've been told that are healthy, are turning out not to be and there is so much misinformation. Do you mind if I ask if there is anything specific that is helping with your health? I hope things improve. :)
@@christianschmetterling651 I checked in aprily cystatin c was 1.14 and creatinine was 1.26, strange now creatinine is less, but your cystatin c is normal it means everything is good with you,
Hi! Have you got the results? I hope all is well. I had my kidney function checked today and the Cr was 100 umol/L (58-97). Cystatin C was 1.13 mmol/L. These two numbers are not good. But the eGFR’s show 83 and 77 using two different calculations. I’m not sure if they are accurate. Anyway it ruined my day.😤
Yao, I am so sorry for the late reply. I have the results video here: ua-cam.com/video/bLZgiOguE_A/v-deo.html and try not to worry. I hope the video might help because there are certain things I think that might really impact the levels the day of the test. I share that in the new video. I totally understand the issue with getting proper results - not knowing what calculator to use. I might email my main doctor and ask her what they use.
If your doctor won't do the cystatin c test, you can get it on your own for $41 at. ULTA Labs, either online or at one of their labs in larger cities.

Hi Holly, thanks for the up-date, it will be interesting to see the results of your next test.
Thanks Vince! I hope the results will be good but we will see. :)

Hi Brother,
Hope you are doing good.
hows your creatinine level now
There are two types of estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate: one based on creatinine (eGFRcr), the other on cystatin C (eGFRcys). Hope that helps!

I just fired my dr because like you my other numbers are near perfect she refused to test me for this . I do however definitely have cysts
