I had a 1983, NON-turbo version . I was 30 years young with two babies at home. I sold it in about 85, to be sure I didn't crash it, so I could continue to work, to feed my family. That standard GPz was fast enough for me. But I must admit, I yearned for the Turbo-version.
This is a wonderful time machine, taking us all the way back to the eighties and I think the bike so looks great today, though I really want a GPZ 900R!
Heres some the real scoop...I owned a motorcycle bussines in the 80s and 90s. I raced bikes to get customers. I had one of these. I striped down the weight and turned up the boost to around 20lbs....yes a Kawasaki tech showed me how to switch the computer to a hidden race program to compensate for the rise in boost. I beat everything I raced!!! But Kawasaki told me to get 20lbs of boost the little turbo would have to spin 250,000 rpm and it would not last. Yes 12 races I was king and did it with a 750 that just pissed everyone off. I got called out at work and like Marty Mcfly Im not chicken. Dude on someone elses big Suzuki wanted to see if the hipe was true. I raced him on a local city street just to get it over with and get back to work. I stayed on the gas a little to long and could not stop behind a truck that slowed to see what was going on. Both tires cherpin... I was going to crash... saw my whole life all in seconds ( yes when to think it my be the end its true) nailed the bumper and tailgate flew over the truck landed on side on road. Month later I was out of hospital. Took a while to get back to normal. Im 65 now and still paying for those injuries. That was one bad ass bike!!
I recall seeing this video at a Kawasaki Triples rally in the early 80's. I bought a Turbo a couple of years later for 2.5k.... About time i got another !!
I owned one of these in 1989, crashed it to matchsticks. My second, I owned in 2017 to 2019, but I only paid £8,500 for it, far too cheap! My third, I now own but do not possess yet. £13,000 has bought me a mint condition, 100% restored, collectors bike. I will take delivery in March/April 2022 once the salt is off the road and it’s a tad warmer in the UK.
max power on one of these was rated @112hp while the GPZ 1100 @129hp one reason why besides handling, less weight, better braking, as the professional riders said it could beat the 1100 except at top gear 90-110mph by that time your way ahead in racing depending on the track. The reason why many died owning one was as the professional driver said no lag it just kept going faster, faster and faster turbo oops, crash!
Never felt any turbo squirt from my 750 turbs . Quite lacking in exciting me. She was fast but never was it fast enough for its turbo monika . And im pretty sure 90 mph was achieved in 3rd gear
To be honest it never impressed me . Which it should of done. Maybe it had low miles on it and it still needed running in. Unfortunately my friend rode it for 1 minute and he almost got out of our local pub car park , but someones back garden got in the way . R.I.P 750 turbs

Quite prophetic in that now still generally agreed to be the best ever factory turbo bike.

Gleason did a 10.23 on the Honda V65.
