Scott's Goose Kawasaki Z1000 Tribute | DRIVEN | Ep 36

- Watching the original Mad Max film on repeat as a young boy left an indelible impression on Scott Horwood. So much so that he endeavoured to track down an original 1978 Kawasaki Z1000 to build a tribute Goose Bike. A number of false starts and a couple of poor purchases from the States led Scott to the example he rebuilt and now enjoys on the open road thanks to the assistance of a bunch of equally passionate Max fans.

"Nothing a year in the tropics wouldn't fix". Great job Scott, as a fellow Mad Mad nut, you're a gem.
Normally my favorite sound for a bike is British twins but there is nothing meaner than the growl of the Goose's bike. Probably the best bike sound the world has ever known. What a beautiful tribute you have it must be so fun to ride.
Cool man!😊
I agree that the " Goose Bike " is the Coolest Movie Bike E V E R . Best Sound , however , comes from the CB-X engine . Hair-raising .
100% agree on the mean exhaust note! 😎
Gotta love the Aussies, thanks for sharing this. (Canadian Yamaha R1 guy)
great job, just be sure the rear axle nut hasnt been tampered with!
Ganzo mad max
I always thought they had removed the sump plug but perhaps you're right about the axle nut, does anyone know?
Was the dude not messing with the split link?@@robertbloxham7925
I thought it was the Brakes that got tampered with.
😂😂 🍻
Yes, an iconic motor cycle from Australian movie history, but don't forget the Kwaka Z1 from Stone.
Good job too Scott, looks great.
My dad was in both of those movie...
That and the opening sequence in Stone are brilliant pieces of bike cinematography.
You have certainly done it justice, looks fantastic mate.
He keeps it in The Hall Of Justice)))
Excellent feature, thanks for sharing.
Well done on building this iconic bike from my favourite Australian movie.
This brought back so many memories.
Max and Goose will be proud.
Thanks for sharing
I absolutely love it. I think that the only other bike as iconic in Australian film history is the Kawasaki Z900's in the movie "Stone"
Not z900 but z1s
Thanks for showing this classic.
Best Goose replica I've seen.
Yours looks right. Seen many where the fairing is mounted much too high.
I LOVE THAT BIKE, especially when i saw mad max the first time in 79.
Great job fella! Jim Goose would be proud!👍👏👏👏❤
Just Wow, i love that Motorcycle too. I love every single vehicle in Mad Max series, Cars, Motorcycles and others.
Since watching Mad Max at the pictures in about 1979, I’ve always called Z900/1,000s Mad Max bikes. Love them & the film.
Full credit to you
Building a replica of the mad max z1000
Looks awesome
Beautiful mate
Beautiful 👌👌👌
I started watching Mad Mad 1 when i was 12
Still love it today
Watched over 1000 times
Know the quotes
Word for word
Congratulations on your bike
The "Goose" would be proud
Same here my first introduction to motorcycles was mad max and still to this day it was the start of my addiction 👌 absolutely gorgeous bike mate 👍
Ahhhh.... Riding the licorice road.
A wonderful tribute bike. The sound of Kawasaki Z900/1000s is the sound of my motorcycling youth. In 1983 I ended up with a Kawasaki 750 fitted with one of the original fairings from the movie.
Well done!!
The best looking bike in history.
This is THE coolest motorcycle in history.
I agree.
The kwakas in stone were also awesome..
Great video. Thank you! Loved Goose in the movie as a kid. Inspired me to start riding which I still do today at 52!
Great job Scott, the bike came up great. I hope you don't have any "I dunno man, I just got here myself" moments on it.
BEAUTIFUL BIKE!
Awesome work Scott, well done.I quite liked Bubba Zannetti's Kwaka too.
Must have cut his heart out, eh?

"..Not me, not for him,! But it's not for him Bubba, it's for me,!! Thweeewp,..."
I love to see people with a mechanical dream finally bring it to reality. Well done, it looks great, enjoy but, please ride safe!
Great story, I owned z1000 and rode the old pacific highway in my lunch hour, Hornsdy to Brooklyn turnoff.
Had 3 bikes of that generation a 500, 750 and the 1000. All Great machines, funnily enough all the same year as well. They all had great brakes but all suffered from frame twist under power. The 1000 would be a nice ride with the flat sides. Great replica from a great Aussie movie.
GOOD JOB, YOU NAILED IT.
Used to scrape the pegs on one of these from Devils elbow to Eagle on the Hill back in the day. Did the whole Goose full faring 4 into 1 16” rear wheel. Great, fun bike.
Well done. It's a masterpiece.
Those blue lights will get NSW HWP all excited..
Those Cops will be goo goo ga ga for the Goose Bike, Hes probably above the law on Legendary Bike.
Can't beat the sound of those 4 into 2 crossovers
Awesome bike. Gosling 1 would be proud!
Che bellissima moto e che ottimo lavoro hai fatto nel replicarla.
Bravissimo! 💯💣👏🏻👏🏻🍾🥂
I rode a modified 77 z1000a for 20yrs and owned 7 zeds in total and now im building a toecutters black z1000a "see you on the road scragg"
Thanks for sharing , perhaps you could now get a " Stone " Kawasaki . oh and a coffin side car lol.
...... Nothing a year in the tropics wouldn't fix.
Awesome you've done a great job ,defo most iconic bike in a movie .see yer on the road 😎
Damnit, what a badass bike!!!! Ya do need to go all the way with it and nab yourself the official riding jacket with the shoulder shields. I'd love to daily that thing just to see peoples reactions : )
Well done
Well done indeed!
A piece from here and a piece from there has made the goose special z 1000.
Great memories, owned a new Z900 next was Z1000✌
Awesome mate! That is great, good job!!
Nice job.....I am a Harley guy, but always liked Goose's nike!
God bless you my son were about the same age and im a huge mad max fan you've done a fantastic job all the best mate
I hope Shannons will pay out if you need them, given the lack of mirrors! 😆
Crackin' job!!
Very cool, learned to ride on a little red Z500 😊
So great!!! ❤
Brilliant Scott! Love it! 👍
Love Trev, if you need a Classic motorcycle mechanic go to Surfside!
It looks like you've even got the alpinestar boot's as well . I've still got the pair I bought in 1980.
Awesome job thanks
Outstanding 👊🇺🇸
I am a kawasaki lover and the goose machines was amd is 1 of a kind great job. There may be some faster but none cooler than a z1
Put hinge on fake radio nice storage box lol
It's only the best movie made in our beautiful country. And he turned around and made another 3 after that.
F💙CKING AWESOME MATE! LEGENDARY 👍
I've seen the Movie so many times and although I have always liked Kawasaki's and particularly liked "Goose's" ride, I never really looked at the Bike as anything that stands out, but it actually does.
'' Look at you Max! you couldn't even drive a wheelchaar"!
Well done!
Love to have that bike, what a stellar reproduction. Cheers!
Even a Z900RS w/ Airtech Streamlining kit fitted as well would work. How did you find a proper windscreen?
Superb!
Way cool 😎 great job
Very good..!
Um trabalho espetacular... Cuide muito dessa máquina.
Nice iron! :)
An awesome job, even the cheap helmet with the old motorcross face gard, did he have the early Alpine star mx boots or old rossis
Had Alpinestars
Good one Scott. 👍🏼
Great stuff 👏
Gorgeous
Wow !!
I'm building a toe cutter bike right now I'll soon put up some videos
Bike is awesome! one thing i needed in this video was a burnout!
They wanted one but as it’s an insurance company not a good look
The bronze, they kill our pride
Nice tribute!
Amazing 👀😜🏆👍😉🏍🍾🥂
Bikes a cracker mate 👍🏻
I worked with a fellow, Rob Orchard, a few years back who both maintained and rode the original bike, when Mad Max was produced. Kawasaki Australia lent the producers a number of bikes, most of which were returned in very poor condition, or not at all. Producer, Byron Kennedy, had no problems letting cast and crew ride the bikes how they wanted, and when they wanted. And by all accounts they did. And they rode them into the ground. Literally. By Rob's account, Kawasaki Australia was not happy at all and were in the process of launching legal action against Kennedy in order to recoup their losses. The legal action came to a sudden halt shortly after the release of the movie. So popularised were the bikes, Kawasaki couldn't keep up with the orders, so much so, that they let Kennedy off the hook for fear of adverse publicity. According to Rob, Goose's bike survived filming, however it was pretty knocked around. It was his understanding that the bike was returned to Kawasaki Australia, but he couldn't be sure. If anyone knows what happened to the bike, I'd be intrigued.
Steven thatcher at Justjap in Kirrawee ended up buying from Peter Stephen’s in Melbourne shortly after filming. He had it for years until it was written off when a car turned in front of it.
@@MFPbadges Wow! Thanks a lot for the reply.
Man that bike is awesome however for me, the piece de resistance is the helmet! Where did you source it from?
I was hoping to hear about the replica helmet.
Contact Ken at ken_b@iprimus.com.au
He has the helmets, face guard and shield
the only bike that still looks great even while wearing a back pack.
Do you believe a 1988 kz1000 police model would be a good candidate for a replica?
👍awesome
Badass
dont know just got here my self
The bike is perfect but your boots don't seem tall enough, lol are you happy with its performance? I had a 2010 Z1000 good bike just didn't blow my skirt up.I leaning towards a zx10R next time.See you on the road bronze!
The Aussies seem to have love affair with the big old Kwackas, good scene in the the Man from Hong Kong shot in Aussie with a Z1 and Valiant charger going quick in some part of rural Aussie, then Stone the best ad for the Z1s ever, and then the use of them in Mad Max 1 and bush bash versions in 2.Even saw a guy on the telly not long ago playing a Z1 4 into 1 pipe like a didgeroo in the bush, bloody classic.Cool bike, keep those movie memories alive.
nice👍👍KAWASAKI🇯🇵🇯🇵
it's the duck's guts!...
"..ah dunno man, ah just got ere meself,,"
‘“It wants you to wring it’s neck” …… classic
I heard the 4 into 2 exhaust made it that Gutless, that the Stunty was asked to ride off doing a wheelie, and it didn't have the power to pull the wheel, so they did the fishtail instead.
You heard wrong mate 😉
@@TheTestride Wait, the stunt rider who actually rode the bike is wrong??
@@shoominati23
Yes Chuck, you heard right.
The fairing weight, carbs not tuned to the exhaust, and flat bars were also contributing factors.
@@shoominati23 stand corrected . Did not factor in all the extra front end weight this bike was carrying. Did own a z1000 new fitted a 4 into 1 and before it was rejetted it would certainly still lift the front wheel. And I was actually riding it.
Bullshit
I don't even ride and I want one.
No burnout?! That's un Australian!
Where do I buy those vintage boots with belts?.
eBay. Vintage Alpinestars
Nice Kawasaki, who has watched the movie Stone. Another Aussie cult movie, Z900,s in that one
Nice
