  • The new car smell is long gone but the stains from spilling soda in your car are still there. Along with mashed in french fries, dirt, mud and whatever else you track into your cars floor. It's time to bring back that new car look into the carpet, and we'll show you how

    Your method is popular and on short fiber carpets it's fine, it's just the long way. Some ppl say steam clean but truth is you have to emulsify and lift. Stream will break up bottom dirt but it also leaves dirt and often takes longer w/ dry time. I like your way it works you just can't be too harsh w/ the brush. Also a good bio degradable all purpose cleaner, and a good vacuum. The higher HP types and your method is fine. Most drivers will dirty up those spots soon anyways. I've seen steam clean guys not get up enough moisture and then a mildew smell is present. This is ok. Just make sure you're not using too much cleaner and vacuum the crap out of it.

    To help out the people asking what kind of degreaser he is using, please don't use something like an engine degreaser from the auto store. I've seen a couple comments about interiors smelling like gasoline because of this. Just use Simple Green, Purple Power, or even Dawn dish soap. They work wonders on carpet and leave a clean smell. Don't have to spend big bucks on the professional grade stuff either. Great video by the way! Very professional.

    I use a Bissel Little Green Machine. It has a 1/2 gal tank for the cleaning solution of your choice and it sprays and vacuums with little effort. It is much easier than squirting a spray bottle. Also, it has a clear hose so you can see the color of the water you are vacuuming out, so you really know the carpet is getting cleaned. I have two of these and i just introduced my senior boyfriend to these and he has the second one and loves it. He never knew about them before. He always did it the mean way before, too. I made his car interior detailing alot easier.

    I used to clean carpets professionally. The method shown here, would in my view, be suitable and appropriate only for a farm truck. Carpet cleaner is made specifically to be safely used for the purpose, and spot cleaners are similarly available. As others have said an extraction machine is crucial here. I have personally and more than once, seen odd methods employed, with various soaps left in carpet. It is not pretty, as the carpet material rapidly gets re-soiled and it is actually much harder to get the out the second time. If my word is doubted, try this gentleman's method on an clean, but unwanted carpet floor mat and leave it by a door that gets a lot of use; Not sure if it was brought up already, but unless this car sat out for a time with windows open, and in the driest, hottest environment, the residual water is going to "creep" up from carpet and every piece of exposed unpainted steel associated with the chairs, will be coated with rust. And if it say it is a humid week, all the inside windows roll with moisture for days. In my opinion with nice car, a more meticulous method would be money very well spent. Just my two.

      +jason laster If you detail for a living, then you should know that degreaser on the carpets, all that water and just a shop vac is going to destroy the carpets, resoil easier, and potentially cause mold and mildew. NEVER use an engine degreaser on your carpets!!! It will destroy the adhesive backing on the carpet and break it down.

I had no idea how much oily dirt shoes pick up in parking lots, on streets, etc. I put one scoop of Oxyclean in my bucket with some extra carpet cleaning shampoo we had around the house. Think of carpets like a big door mat You can make the top of it look clean because most of the sand and dirt sinks into the bottom of it That's why you pick it up and shake it out Car carpet is no diffrent You ever see Bald spots on the drivers carpet It's cause Grit trapped in the bottom of the carpet in time cuts the strans So you end up with Carpet laying flat and dirty ..Now without a shop or a detailer you can Fix this from happening one or two ways ...The way i do it once a year : remove the seats remove the plastic bottom door trim undo the seat belt bolt Take out the carpet and power wash it at the coin op with soap Then wet vac or leave in the sun to fully dry before reinstall Or Use a steamcleaner with HOT steam and scrub and wipe and brush . Then put on the heater full blast on the floor setting open the window 1" to let the moist air out of the car ...worse thing to do is leave the carpet moist (mold) Most carpets have a foamish under pad that soaks up water under the carpet and stinks if wet and you get mold Because the Underpad doesnt let the water evaporate Causing Mosture and mold and worse yet ...rust

  • @JacobWinkle
    @JacobWinkle 10 років тому +1

    Thats great work. If you have some tools and are handy with them I would also recommend removing the seats because as you can see especially on the driver side the steering wheel and the seat are in your way and also you can clean the carpet more and also while the seats are removed you can clean those easier as well.

  • @Brunkvic

    great job, one thing that makes sense is to vac it before you wet it also.
    people saying this is a bad method and you need a carpet shampoo machine are pretty funny. what he does manually is exactly what a shampoo machine does... wet,brush, and vac.

  • @simonlowe2698

    Word of warning. Some cars have sensitive electrical cabling and connectors under the carpets!! (For example, Mercedes SL) not to mention 3-4 inches of shaped foam sections bonded to the underside of the carpet. If you use this much water, a) you will never get it fully dry underneath without removing the carpet (which is almost impossible in an SL!) , andb) there is a good chance you will completely mess up the CANBUS data wiring under the carpet - not a good move! The CANBUS connectors operate on voltage only (zero current), so any corrosion to the connectors at all can completely disrupt data transfer between the various control units in your car. Trust me, I speak from experience!! It's bad enough having water under the carpets due to leaking roof seals etc., without compounding the problem with over zealous cleaning. Great advice on the cleaning though, and I will be trying it on my mats, but just be aware that there may be some delicate components lurking under the carpet before sloshing the water around!

    • @thomasparkhurst566
      @thomasparkhurst566 5 років тому +1

      Very good advice. BMW X5 is the same way. All the electrical cabling and shit under the carpet is nuts. I open the door on my x5 one morning after a heavy rain and about shit the passenger side floor board had water about 2in above the carpet. The moon roof drains were plugged and backed up on the floor. Vacuumed about 15 gallons of water out but when you pushed down on the carpet in the corners you could still hear a ton of water. That's when the nightmare began. Removing almost all the interior to get the carpet out. That molded sound deadner is like a foam it sucks the water up like a sponge. It took almost a week to get the carpet completely dry after I got it out. And I vacuumed another 3 to 4 gallons after the carpet was out. Good lord it was a wiring highway under there. This is also very good advice for people looking at flood cars. No matter how good the deal is run like hell.

    Something that nobody brings up…all of that liquid(degreaser, water, shampoo, etc) permeates down into the sound deadening material under the carpet. The sound deadening material stays damp and eventually starts rusting the floors.

    What would you recommend to remove a foul organic odor from interior carpet in the car's trunk? Is Resolve sufficient to clean and de-odorize? Forgot to remove a bag of fruit from the trunk. The fruit broke down and the result was maggots. Got rid of the maggots but the odor is horrible. No stain was left, but the area and the whole car now smells. Any recommendations? I bought a car recently that had some pretty great interior excluding a few spots. There are two spots that I just can't get rid of. I've tried Turtle Wax Power Out and Tuff Stuff a good 4-5 times but the stain still remains. Its faded a LOT but I just can't seem to get it out. Every time I do scrub though, the contaminants come out and make the suds a dark brown color so I know its getting out of the carpet, but I don't want to have to keep scrubbing and scrubbing to get it out. I also have what looks to be paint stuck in my carpet like spray paint that had no effect with any of those products. Is there a way to get it out?

    I'm contemplating whether I should buy a carpet cleaner or a high hp shop vac. If the shop vac is able to perform the same if not better than a carpet cleaner in terms of suction and being able to pull up all/most of the degreaser/water. I rather just buy one thing. Rather than having to get two separate tools.
    Are they comparable or is one better than the other?

    I use a little shop vac to pick up gravel and other dry stuff from the carpet. Then I get out a Bissell Green Machine to clean the carpet by extracting the dirt and grime. The spot and stain remover carpet machine is not expensive compared to a pro model, but it does better than using a shop vac.
    I just worked on a problem area in my car today and it took several attempts to pull the stain out of the carpet. The recovery water looked like used motor oil LOL!.. Your vid demonstrates the process to keep the carpet looking great.

    Some of the comments on here crack me up. Anyone thinking of doing this don't. Your just going to sent your car to an early grave. You will never get all the water out unless you rip the carpet out. Your car will rot from the inside out. And stink. A warm day will do no good it will just sweat under the carpet and stay moist. And anyone with a European car. Read Simon Lowe's comment and my response to his. If you do this you will wish you hadn't.
