Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:24 Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
00:29 In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
00:58 Add sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract and beat together until creamy and well combined. If using lemon zest, stir this in here as well.
02:05 In a separate, medium-sized bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
02:23 Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, stirring together until completely combined.
03:05 Scoop dough by level 1 ½ Tablespoon sized scoop and drop onto prepared baking sheet, spacing cookies at least 2” (5cm) apart. Transfer to center rack of preheated 350F (175C) oven and bake for 10-11 minutes.
03:30 Within a minute of the cookies coming out of the oven, very lightly flatten the tops with the bottom of a clean glass or measuring cup (optional, but allows for a flat surface for icing). Allow to cool completely on the cookie sheet before frosting.
Frosting
04:03 Combine butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl and use an electric mixer on low-speed to beat together until smooth and creamy.
04:33 Add sour cream, vanilla extract, and salt and beat together to completely combine. If using food coloring, add a few drops and stir to evenly color the frosting.
05:19 Once cookies are completely cooled, spread frosting evenly over cookies (I use 2-3 teaspoons of frosting per cookie).
Notes
Storing
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Cookies may be frozen for several months.
Strawberry pink frosting
For the cookies in the photos I colored the frosting pink by stirring in 1 Tablespoon of pulverized freeze-dried strawberries.

Amazing Sam thank you very much bless to your family
You are so welcome! 😊
These sound delicious I will b making these
I hope you love them! 😊
Simple and delicious, great recipe! ☺️ The lemon addition sounds wonderful, orange would be great too. I just made cream cheese cookies, neapolitan flavors, and found that recipe tastes better with just the vanilla. The cream cheese dominated the strawberry and chocolate (yes I put enough natural flavor in both 😉) so the neapolitan flavor didn't come through with a punch, but worked great with vanilla. Still good, but lesson learned. I'm still going to try your neapolitan cookies recipe, just didn't have cake flour, I have to order the non bleached cake flour from King Arthur, not sold in stores. Thanks for sharing your recipes and experiences with baking and cooking. 💖🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸
Looks so cute
Thank you!
Looks delicious, will definitely be trying them. Thanks for sharing. Also I noticed that when you are mixing if you could lay down a towel and put your bowl on it, this should help your bowl not to move as much.
Thank you! I hope you love them! 😊
❤😍😍
My grandmother always had sour cream cookies on hand. I still use her recipe when I am looking for a simple comfort cookie. Not everyone likes peanut butter, or chocolate (which I find shocking :) so it is a good option for them. Of course her recipe did not have exact amounts, but I observed enough to be able to replicate them. We make them super simple with just a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Sometimes I also add a hint of nutmeg to the batter. I will have to compare your version. Thanks for another great idea. I love that they get better the next day as the flavors meld and they get even a little softer.
I love seeing old recipes. I was given a box of recipes from my husband's grandmother and there are no amounts anywhere to be seen on any recipe. It's really quite amazing that things always seem to turn out so well using those recipes. I hope you love these. :)
These look so dainty and perfect 😍
Thank you! 😊
yes, she does. cookies look good too. Geez she couldnt be any cuter lol
@@bigmikeobama5314I knew that I shouldn’t click on your profile photo, but I did anyway. 🤦🏻♂️😬🤣🤷🏻♂️
You have been working hard-so many new recipes and all up to your high standards for delicious goodies. BTW have you thought about foster care for your stand mixer? Mine is 21 years old and functions well independently. I could easily take in a newer model😂
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
She has another KitchenAid stand mixer that’s apparently shy and doesn’t like to be on camera as much. It’s just like the blue one, but it’s painted red. I saw them both together in a short last year and inquired. She uses them both for recipe development. So, when she says her recipes are well researched and developed, she’s not exaggerating.
Congratulations Sam on expecting your little one, are we getting a girl this time? Love your videos, blessings
Thank you so much! We are welcoming a baby girl! :) :)
These look similar to loft house cookies.
If I can't get sour cream, can I use full fat yogurt?
I haven't tried it, but full fat greek yogurt is going to be your closest substitute.
@@SugarSpunRun Thanks
I could not find freeze dried strawberries in my local large grocery store! I walked the whole store!! So I will be using lemon zest. But I’m not sure how much?? Zest from one lemon? Half of that?
About a tablespoon of zest. :)
@@SugarSpunRun the cookies were a hit!!
Do these taste kind of like a sugar cookie?
I would say they have more depth of flavor than a sugar cookie and they are a bit cakier.
Thank you! You should have Zach come on camera at the end of the video for a taste test 😝. lol
They are addictive.
