Mumbo
mumbo comment with one like lmao
OH MY GAH!
Sorry these aren't redstone powered....
Are you are guy ? I am and love minecaft but don’t own
Really, it's just about that F20C. 💪😂
well yeah since...you do have an S2000. Not gonna lie, wish I had one.
Yo Jason when are you going to review that s2000 you just bought
Sadly.. I just blown my F20C... Have a huge hole in the block.. No knock sensor+ bad fuel = many tears..
They left out the B series a K series. Sad
Very true. Now if they were to ACTUALLY list engines that made the biggest impact to the tuner/modified industry then the 350 small block and Honda b series would be tied for 1st. B series is to imports what the 350 small block is to domestics. The b series dominated the drag scene in the 90s and early 2000s and is definitely a pioneer along with the 2jz and 4g63.
i knew i was gonna be on this list
where's 4g63?
They chose engines that don't require a rebuild once a week.
+smervelous why the hell ej was there then?
Both of those are _slightly_ more reliable than the 4G63, so yes, my point still stands.
For a performance engine, the 4G63 sure likes to puke its innards unless you undertake the expensive task of using forged components for everything.
Judge Shooty
stock for stock i would trust a 4g63 over a rotary. if you baby a 4g it will last. a rotary like a 13b or 26b rx7 are going to need rebuilds very often.
John Sullivan no point replying to him bro.. he's probably a subie lover hahahaha
Alex where is the tuk tuk?😀
Whenever Ethan gets off his ass to edit it (very, soon...promise!)
+Alex Kersten Ethan's probably to busy doing one wheel peels in his swagon r
+Alex Kersten goddammit ethen!!! ha
I came here for the Tuk Tuk comments.
I feel a bribe is in order..... or maybe some extortion?
The Saab Turbo 4's are pretty iconic as well. It is the engine that put turbocharging on the map and made turbos cool. Thanks, Saab.
Aye
nissan and other companys were messing with turbos at the same time as saab. they went out of business for a reason even after gm tried to help them.
+Ryan Rohauer but Saab is better than those cars because SWEDEN
Not really, BMW Porsche and Ferrari made Turbo cool as hell back in the days (in that order chronologically).
+Kaisuke971 But were Ferrari, BMW, and Porsche the first car company to turbocharge a mainstream production car that was obtainable to the masses? No. Saab was. The Saab 99 Turbo was the first mainstream production car with a turbocharged engine. Therefore it was Saab who introduced turbocharged cars to the masses. Not BMW, not Porsche, not Ferrari. It was Saab. Even Top Gear has acknowledged that it was Saab who was responsible for putting turbocharged cars into the spotlight.
fuck yes, finally a video acknowledging the legendary Alfa Busso engine. Thank you CarThrottle
Look up the Barra falcon 4L inline 6 Turbocharged from Australia it is used in the XR6T F6 falcon and is also available as a N/A engine.
I maybe would have taken in Audi's 5 cylinder engine, due to its heritage in racing.
or VW's vr6
+Joey Herrmann indeed very good platform known for capable of serious mods and being bulletproof by many enthusiasts..the r32 vr6 is pure joy to drive!
I was about to include the VR6 and BMW's R6, but then I thought my German would be showing :D R6 isn't a racing engine though
yaaaaaa i dont know how VAG VR6 or audi I5 engines did not make the cut...... OR ANY PORSCHE AIRCOOLED ENGINES!!!!??????? Ls most iconic?????? really???? and your from the uk?????wtf......
+Miguel Garcia I know right
There's a special place in hell for people who swap an LS into a Skyline.
yes the deepest, worst part of hell
why? They're good motors and those are their cars. Buy your own skyline and do what you want :)
Not their fault that they want their car to start lmao
They are. But you should NEVER EVER EVER.....TOUCH.....an engine from the holy 90's car trinity. Mazda's Wankel Rotary,Nissan's RB, and Toyota's 2j. They should be untouched and left in the cars they came in. (Mods to the engines are okay though frowned upon depending on how few stock ones might be left).
+Colds I'd rather have the car not start and work on it then it to drive into crowds of people ;)
maybe they miss the 4A-GE of the Toyota AE86 and MR-2 ... almost so good Like the 2jz ?
wooo 4A-GE i LURVE that sound it sounds to noice.
the 3sgte is much better than the 4age the only reason people care about that engine is because of initial d
most people put 3sgtes in their mr2s
esteban_ grillo86
4AGE and 4G63
Rip to the r32 with the LS swap.......
Nathal Schattenkerk ikr, an r32 is fast for once
alb ino LS over RB in GTR/S ? you might be fucktarted and I've heard that, it might be contagious. I would get your shit checked out asap.
knuckle brawler lmao someone sounds a little butthurt, don’t hate bc someone doesn’t wanna put up with a “crappy in-line 6” RB. They just wanna make more power and sound better while doing it
Jonathan Torok ...except you won't make more hp off an LS....there are 1500+ hp modified RB26s, look them up. No need for more power than that.
Uncle Ruckus lmao i guess so kid, im talking street car status who in their right mind would want 1500hp. In normal tuning and minor upgrades yall make so much more power than the rb, and with the minimal maintenance the ls has it takes the cake
Volkswagen's VR6 engine should be in here too. It was not the most powerfull engine, but it was kinda unique because of the VR shape and it also had great tuning potential (forced induction). Oh and the sound is still amazing.
This also applies to the R32 engine, but the VR6 engine was the predecessor of the R32
Unique but useless, so why should someone list it here?
forget about the alfa twin spark and the hemi wich is the other alternative like rotary and of course the 6 flat !
It's just a copy of an old Lancia design, if you want to put it on the list it would be better to put the original
first VR engine is made by Lancia in the 60s but it wasn't called that fancy VR name and V6 Busso sounds way better that the VR6 which looks very ugly in the engine bay, one is master class art and the other is just done in microsoft paint art
@@jordangogov5866 commenting on a 4 year old comment I totally forgot about...
Legends say that CT might answer when youre early
It's a myth.
Nope
+Car Throttle hi
You forgot the VR6 🙄
Legend says that someday the tuk tuk video will be uploaded
No 4AGE 20v engine?
Black
Ton fni ggn
[sad 4AGE noises]
4AGE delivering tofu
Wait! No M156/M159? No HEMI? No Audi 5 cylinder turbo? But you had included the Volvo 5 cylinder and Busso... I don't know about that...
Volvo whiteblock much better and more famous
@@koppanymohos4092 Volvo whiteblocks are known to crack blocks under high boost. While Im a fan of Volvo the audi 5 cyl is way more popular.
Busso is real engine with character sound and power, not that stupid turbo shit which breaks every day, audi's place is in service
No Gallo 12 or Gallo 24?!
They outclass every engine mentioned
HAHAHAHA
I didn't know pizza places made motors?
Come on guys I can't do this.
+Bazza G nice I see what you did there 😂
My MX-5 engine didn't make the cut :/
Ha gay
You need to have a working engine to make the cut.
Shut up, Meg.
oooo shit
***** yes
where is the 4g63?😒
Wow, my Volvo s40 2.4i made it to the list. It's a musical instrument to a poor man
You forgot the Hyundai Accent's 3 cylinder diesel
I was afraid that the LS series wasn't there. This video stressed me. XD
I was feeling the exact same way
me too
I would've been extremely disappointing if they left the LS engines out.
I give them credit for actually adding it in, but I'm disappointed that they didn't add any footage of the sound. the LS7 in particular sounds absolutely pornographic
+ChevySpeedAddict oh God ikr I heard a new z28 on the dyno in person the other day and I had an orgasm
You forgot the VR6 bro
VR6? c'mon, thats nothing special.
Vw trash
derbi senda you are trash as well
It's just a copy of an old Lancia design, if you want to put it on the list it would be better to put the original
What about Mitsubsishi's 4G63 and the 4B11 😭
Down Hal 4b11T
Dylan Paul the king subie engine is in here don’t need a bitch as evo
I feel like there should be a part two including: 4G63, VQ30-VQ37, Ferrari's F136, Lamborghini's 6.5L in the Murcielago, BMW S54, etc.
I'm surprised the Volvo T5 made the list.
Makes me somewhat proud to have one in my ST.
focus st? thoes have a variation of a the mazda disi engine from the mazdaspeeds, ford funded mazdas r&d for that engine so they had the rights to it when they broke away from mazda.they changed little things like egr and I believe head is of a diffrent design not sure tho. but they do sound alot diffrent than my speed3
Focus st mk2 has the b5254t3. That mazda trash is in the mk3s
The Mk2 ST engine is identical to the Mk2 RS engine, apart from pistons, con rods, and camshafts. And turbo of course.
That was a na no turbo
MuminGoesMuslim
What do you mean? Both the Mk2 ST and RS had a 2.5L 5 cylinder turbo engine.
I'm glad you mentioned the LS motor. It's probably been shoehorned in almost every conceivable car made and can produce some serious power. 👍
Agree. My faves from this list are the rotary, Subaru and the 5 pot Volvo. For what's available now, the 1.75L Alfa 4C engine cast in aluminium and the ford Eco-boost are quite cool.
I love the LS series, especially the LS9 and LS7, and I love the 2JZ and RB26DETT engines from Japan. One engine that I feel should get an honorable mention in this list is the Nissan VQ. The VQ series has been a major engine for Nissan, being used in sports cars like the Z and GT-R, as well as other high volume cars and trucks.
What about the 4G63T from Mitsubishi ?
This video recalled common engines we all know about.
7 bolt versions are weaker than 6 bolt versions and the dreaded Crank walk.
Only true for DSM 4G63's. 7-Bolt DSM motors can still take one hell of a beating.
yep!
Honestly end of the day I think the Boxer is the more popular engine between the EJ20's and EJ25's. I've owned four 4G63 powered cars and a couple Boxers and I'd definitely take the 4G over any EJ any day I definitely see more WRX's and Impreza's then DSM's and Evo's.
The F20C is more than just iconic. It's legendary.
I see my photos!
That's my Silvia SR20DET Before / After photos , and my buddy from Garage Autohero working on it
Thanks Car Throttle!
The Yamaha 6 cylinder in the first gen Taurus SHO (3.0, 3.2) could rev to 8500 with some modification. Such a great motor that people missed out on when they were at the local wreckers. If you find one, please pick it up!
It actually revved to 9000 easily but Ford redlined it down because they didn't feel the accessories could withstand the high rpms.
David McClelland
Nice, I actually have a the SHO Registry magazines that came out in the early 90s. For some reason my Dad joined it when he bought his silver and grey 92 SHO (my Dad was sooo cool for buying that car haha). I was just looking at one issue that details a car called the Perkins M2. American built 'super-car' with mid-mounted SHO engine. Very cool. imgur.com/scvIiUC
Son of Tamriel wasn't a v6 it was a v8..
I think the mitsubishi 4G63 evo engines should of made the list.
Fuck no, after 100K they suck.
@@MrGreenelight Put that crack pipe down, it's gonna ruin your teeth bud.
No shittttt pure craziness man
5-cylinder from Volvo or Audi (specially, the Audi's 2.2T engine from 80's up to 1994)
Alvis Rubenis i wanted it too about audi's 5 cyl 2.2t engine
My school is in downtown, so it's pretty easy to hear a beautiful sounding Subie not too far. Oh yeah and today I saw a wide body S2000 on the street when I was walking out of school. One of the only wide body cars I've seen.
really? no ford windsor or chrysler gen 2 hemi? both are massivley iconic, very reliable and very tuneable
Also 3rd gen hemi and ford's 7.0L v8...unless this video was meant to be a video about the most iconic engines for tuning
Its ok its in the video they stole this all from....
well it's because this channel is mostly about rice burners
Do you know how awesome that would be. Rice is so cheap and abundant it would solve pollution problems.
not all imports are ricers mate. In fact, this channel very rarely features rice.
Wheres the Lexus LFA at tho? Arguably one best cars to ever come out of Japan!!!
That was more so the exhaust tuning than the actual engine even though it still would probably sound pretty sick without the tuning though
who cares about the sound its still one of the highest revving production car engine. V10 and rev limit at 9.5k come on put it fart can on that and it still be an awesome engine.
Like I said, its still an amazing piece of art and I would kill to see and hear that engine in real life. Most people that really don't know much about cars just like it for the sound and that kind of bugs me
+Chris Brown exhuast tuning or not, it's still one of the best cars ever made in Japan. It did have to do with exhaust tuning but you also have to account for revs (rev limit), firing order, displacement, crank, 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke, etc etc.
This video is not about the car it is about the engine. A new engine cannot be classed as iconic.
nice list , these are definitely some of the engines that I like to see on a lists such as these.
The last engine I was expecting to see in this list is the one in my Volvo S70. Made my day. :P
Volvo 5 Cylinder iconic? BMW v10? Sure these engines are fine but you basically told us you picked these engines because they sound good.
There are so many better engines, 4g63, VW's VR6, BMW's M20...
M50 was an improvement over the M20 imo
4age
MΣNT0R™ Spot on, another good one.
VW 1.8t>VR6
+Travis Flubacher vr6t>1.8t
disappointed to not see the mistubishi 4g63 in this
Yeah crank walk isn't acceptable bere
So happy my Volvo 5 inline made the cut, it's a truly great sounding block with unbeatable reliability
Need a second video on this. And include the ford barra series engine. A must have for dirt cheap power!
Saab's B235/234R motors better be on this list.
Oh wait, it's a car throttle post. Just gonna be a bunch of generic LS, 2jz, sr20s etc etc...
atleast they got Volvo's I-5.
theyre good thoe
This video is about ICONIC engines, why would they not include LS, 2JZ, etc. in the list?
LOCO Fiesta They're iconic becasue 12 year olds on Car throttle love to get hard over them. Where are the real legends like the b234R or the 4G63??
+. for rwd, a gearbox from some open fits it. Look up the miata with a b234r swap. And yes, i own a 9000 aero and it's great.
The 4g63 is basically a mitsubishi only motor, and the Volvo i5 is the same way, yet it was on this list.
My B5244 I-5 made it in but the 4G63 and the Coyote 5.0 didn't? It's my birthday!
yeah personally I can't believe that the 5.0 didn't make the cut...
The coyote is a great engine but not iconic enough, although i really have never even heard of the volvo engine
idk this video seemed to be more about in line engines, I believe half of the engines this guy chose were in line type engines...
PJ Zizzle
It's reeeeally big within the European tuning market, and it sounds incredible. The 5.0 definitely deserved to be on here though.
+SpaghettiFox of course it's really popular in the European market because you can take a 500 and slap a twin turbo or supercharger on it and be pushin 700 wheel... don't get me wrong a lot of the European cars are magnificent but when you start going against turbo coyotes and supercharged coyotes, good luck because he can always add more boost or build motor... mmr performance has a fully built 5.0 making 2200+whp runs 7.02 at 202mph in the quarter... that's a whole lot of potential when you can easily make 700whp with bolt ons with turbo or supercharger and be running low 10s possible high 9s... if you want to go all out and fully build, you could have a 7 second car that still would not have nowhere near the type of money invested in it as it takes to have those European vehicles... don't get me wrong he can also fully build his Lambo, I have never seen a Lambo run a 7 flat at 202 mph..
And glad to see my motor at the end :)))) I can't believe you didn't exemplify how the LS1 is the best sounding engine ever!!!
i at least replayed the s85 v10 engine at least 100 times that thing sounds absolutely priceless
Couple of Nissan SR20 Motors would pull a premium one week before race wars
First time I hear someone saying DET and DETT like that... ^^
damn it CT! I'm just arrived at the office and already ruin my pants. thankyou!
The fact that there are no evo engines on this list makes we want to question why im still subscribed to this channel
No Chrysler Hemi or Ford Modular engines?
Mainly European engines were chosen for this.
Yea really Hemi's are great
Hemi's are cool, the Modular fords were just dogs. I had one
They said Iconic. EVERYONE who is a "petrolhead" knows the LS. Hemis are cool, the modular is shit compared to the 351, and honestly, I'm surprised the Cleveland didn't make it up here. This has a heavy euro bias due to this person being from england.
Except when you consider the engine in the GT is still a modular. The coyote, roadrunner, trinity and the new flat plane crank in the GT350 are all part of the modular family.
WHAT! NO VW VR6?!?
My dad used to have a Volvo v50 r design that had the turbocharged straight five. It was quick and sounded nice
The 4A-GZE needs some more love. Amazing engine
No 4g63 ? :(
How did you not mention audi's 2.2L straight 5?
what is the iconic in here ? engine with huge turbo which breaks ever sunday and sometimes on wednesday ?
A great list. Probably all the engines I would have included. For those who have never experienced the GM truck-sourced 5.3L V8 1999 and newer, they are an extremely under-rated engine. 300k miles on a stock top end, 295 horse, 325 torque, 18mpg, very smooth and powerful, especially in a 2wd regular cab, short bed truck. Probably the best all-around V8 you can buy for a budget price short of an LS1.
Good video.
Should do a video about the bread and butter engines.
5S-FE etc.
You forgot about the Hyundai Accent 3 cyl diesel.
Where’s the VR6
Thank you for including the LS.
IT is hard to put down just 10 Engines on that list.. But a good job non the less
An LS in a skyline!? THERE IS NO GOD!!!
LS in a skyline=criminal, RB26>LS
+Dazzmond From NZ no no, LS> RB (all motors)
actually skyline with LS is fine, but SKYLINE GTR LS ? I would not mind using my Japanese sword by a bit
Funnily enough, the LS weighs less than the RB26, though as with what was said, I seen a 4 door R32 on my local Craigslist a while back, I'd LS swap that
Since it weighs less and is easy and cheap to get it into bizarre levels of horsepower and torque, and imho sounds way better than any Nissan engine ever, I'd say there is a god :D
an alfa romeo engine ive never heard of and a 5 cylinder volvo over the coyote, lambo v12, dodge v10, or porsche flat six? really?
im not saying the volvo and alfa engines arent great im just saying they are no where near as iconic as the ones i listed and im aware the lambo and porsche engines have changed slightly over time but the concept of them has stayed the same
+Fire Squad V6 Busso is a real icon, trust me. Then Volvo 5 pot... i think it's famous for T5 models and Focus RS MK2. :)
You've never heard of an Alfa v6 engine? What sorcery is this?
You've never heard of the Busso ? That's kinda sad tbh...
No, that's just you. The Volvo I5 and the Alfa V6 are very iconic. Just because you haven't heard of them much doesn't mean anything.
This was a great video all the way around.
So yeah you left out a few mate. As others have said the ford modular engines (probably most notably the pushrod 5.0 from the foxbody mustang that everyone loves to throw into everything from old e36's to miatas), the Jeep v6 (the main reason for chrystler acquiring Jeep at all), dodge hemi, and the turbo Saab's. I'd like to add to that list: air cooled porsche/volkswagon engines from the bug and 911's, and the Toyota 4A-GE.
For BMW i would say the m50 is the most iconic
That's what I was thinking too. Sure the M-powered Sxx motors are awesome, but the M20/M50/M52/M54 progression has been powering the bread and butter entry level drivers' cars for 40+ years.
Exactly you can find that engine in alot of them , e34, e36, e39 and e 46 i think and is still a popular engine for e30 and all the 4cylinder bmw that wants an upgrade mostly gets the m50 .. I have a e34 525i with an m20 but i kinda wants the m50
M10.
Casper Wendt loved my E39s
4G63 also should be here..
One of these videos!!! FINALLY!!
... M156 from AMG, first engine truly AMG built from ground up (without Mercedes interfering or using it on any regular car), and one of the best, most musical, sounding V8s ever.
Cosworth.
This video is way too biased. I only saw 1 western world engine in this list. All the others were practically Japanese. What about the 426cu V8 HEMI? The 8.0 - 8.4l V10? The 302cu Boss V8?
BMW, Volvo, Alfa Romeo are now Japanese?
This was a list of 10 iconic engines not every iconic engine ever made. Most of the world will not class an American V8 as an iconic engine as they have never been in a car with one. Also the power some small 4 pot Japanese engines produce is genuinely superb. I prefer the sound of a straight six or a revy V8. It is hard for a lot of people to see the US V8s as iconic mainly due to the fact of so many poor power outputs for the size of the engine. I know they are developed for longevity and torque in most cases.
What I am trying to say is some of the Japanese and European engines are engineering masterpieces. The good old US V8 are great but you expect all V8s to be great.
+Ivor Problem Scania's V8 are great
Wow big power.
+Ivor Problem You are such a fangay.
could have made a case for the VR6 as well. Also, if that BMW V10 was glorious, the same era V8 used in the M3 deserves a mention too. they also sounded amazing.
Theres LS swap kits for everything, including a 2018 Jeep JL. Easy and cheap to modify. It's the best of the best, with the 2JZ GTE and RB26DETT right at its heels.
What about the Engine of the Moskvich 412 ? ))))
The 4g63 was left out
Many people will disagree but the Rover KSeries even with its design flaw which caused HGF they were incredibly good engines and still are some 30 odd years later, MG ZR's, rovers you'd be quite surprised when a 160hp rover 25 can take you at the lights ! The 7200 rpm rev limit and the screaming induction noise with ITB's was and is incredible sounding, turbo charged making into 210 hp and the 1.4 for the younger drivers easily achieving 125-130 hp with supporting bolt ones and a remap!
yep the gm ls engines are epic because my 1982 gmc has a 376 lsx engine and it is amazing
You missed the M156 in the c63/sls aaand the 2 liter turbo engine in the a 45. This is a legend with almost 400 hp
Come one. No 4age? I feel like they did that on purpose
We need a part 2 for all the other good engines not entered into this list
Great video, but I couldn't help but feel that there were other iconic engines left out. Most notably, Porsche's flat-six. Another would be a Cummin's straight-six. Though it's not an engine for sports cars, so it may not apply so much to this list, but I still think it's worth a mention.
U guyz forgot the 4AGE!!
Where is the 4G63!!! The Evo is great and it can hold a lot of power.
RB series of engine is actually been put into a few kinds of cars in the factory. A31 Cefiro, C33 & 34 Laurel and Nissan Stagea, Plus the RB series of engine is so famous because it fits almost every Nissan cars from the 80s till early 2000s and it has the same strength as the Toyota JZ engines.
BMW M S70/2 on the McLaren F1.
That engine response is amazing!
Saab b234 is getting way to little respect
I agree. It's literally the engine that put turbocharging on the map.
THANK YOU I'M NOT ALONE
The Corvair Monza Spyder, the GNX, and the BMW 2002 turbo would beg to differ.
and b204r not to mention
I didn't expect to see my engine mentioned here. Nice.
the only engine we need to know is ls
The A-series engine is pretty iconic... Used from the late 50's up to 2001 being the first engine to be transversely mounted in the mini as well as powering many other cars such as the morris minor, morris traveler, mg midget and such. It is highly tuneable and very had been very successful in racing / rally. It went from being a carb engine to single point injection and then to multi point injection as well as also being used as an N/A and factory turbo engine... Just a few things that to me make the a series pretty darn worthy of this list! Just because it diddnt make masses of power from stock.. Always.. doesn't make it bad or not iconic! I have a single point injection classic mini cooper and after 90000 miles still makes good power and returns 49 mpg on the motorway.. Not bad for a 50 year old design!
people always forget the 3.0 engine in the maxima 2001 . so under rated
incoming the angry muscle car fangays
Incoming bait comments from 12yo. JDM fanboys
I just read that in Squidward's voice. LMAO!!! The face just makes it perfect. :D
