The best art advice I've ever been given is this: "The key to mastering art is how skillfully and creatively you fix your mistakes. This is where the real magic of learning happens." (This was from my elementary school art teacher. She was amazing, and gave me advice on all areas of life, even after I got older. I miss her!)
Your art teacher was the BEST! I hated mine. She made me not believe I could be an artist. She would scribble all over my art and say "no, do it this way", call my art stupid and trite, and she even nominated me for a very prestigious summer program at a Junior Ivy League school (Wesleyan in CT) for creatives....but she just HAD to say "I didn't want to nominate you, I wanted Gaia to go, but she came to this school as a senior and you have to come back to do a school project and you are the only artist left". I ended up beating out every other student (only one boy and one girl from each school could go, but ALL the creatives entered: dance, writing, theater, music, and visual arts) based on my "stupid and trite" portfolio and my interview, but I was only 16 so I couldn't see how amazing that was, all I heard was my art teacher's words. The person who was supposed to be my mentor and the only teacher in my school that didn't outright bully me so I believed her and never pursued a career in art. Stopped doing it for decades too.
@@amypanddirtytoo1926 Yikes! I had a music teacher like that. Even after I won a bunch of awards and made it to first chair for flute, he still told me that I was worthless. He treated a friend of mine the same damn way, and my friend went on to do sound for very popular TV shows in Hollywood.
All of these came out gorgeous. This is the third (or fourth) video I've watched today and I literally just stumbled on your page a couple hours ago. Your art is so colorful and inspiring for me personally. I also adore your voiceover + humor. Definitely a quick subscribe from me!
Your video has so much chaos, but the good kind, the snake turned out better than you think, it suits your style and the page in general which is good.
The whole page was great, even the sneaky snek. I think it's so funny we as artists get flustered during the process. I'm going through the same thing right now with a video I'm trying to finish. Let it sit two weeks because my brain is stuck. Must be perfect, precious... then after we finish the piece, it's usually better than expected. Anywho, I did love the first tree with the background. Everything about it! The colors, gradient, trees as shadows in the distance. Great!! Do more of these. ❤❤❤❤
I really like the vibrance of your paintings and I also think your are pretty wise when choosing value and creating some depth and perspective. Thanks for your videos 😊
Ohmygosh! I just discovered your videos yesturday, and love them. I’m trying to figure out my own art and UA-cam, and just love your vibe so much. I feel like we would have sat at the same table in high school art class, and had a blast. I also love all kinds of media, love ocean creatures, love nature, hate snakes, will be putting on your videos while I work!😜
It is insane to me you only started painting this year! Wow! I've been painting on and off this past year and I'm nowhere near where you are. Goes to show there's no place where you "should" be :)
This is why I love the 2 cup method! I have a cup for clean water and a cup for dirty water! That way I have to do less water changes overall Becuase I clean my brush with the dirty water and refresh the paint/water with the clean cup! 🎉🎉
A way I paint to get that shiny look would be to use a liner brush and watered down white after you got the main painting done. It might take some practice though
I just finished working out at the gym, sat down to eat my breakfast sammich and watch a video. As soon as I finish my breakfast sammich, at 7:34 we both sighed together 😂
I like to use 2 water cups when I am painting so that I can get the paint off in 1 cup and the paint water off in the second cup. I hope that makes sense 🥴
Not the creator here, but pretty sure it's *Scotch /3M Delicate Surface* painter's tape, as it's the same one I use. Often you can find it sold along the blue Scotch painter's tape; stores like Blick or Michaels ought to have it. If its not the same tape, I apologise, but it's very good tape for blocking off parts of paper. Just have to be careful if you're using it on a toothy paper or something of the sort.

@@ScheherazOdd I play cello and violin. Should have known you were a musician by your username 😊
I’m really loving your channel. Your art is awesome but the voice-over is hilarious. You have a great personality. Thanks for sharing. 😊

Aw thanks! I'm so happy you like it!
"I don't really know what I'm doing whatsoever so I just started doing it" is a good philosophy to live by I think LOL
Sometimes the hard part is knowing when to stop. Love the little bird and the mushrooms on the tree.
I love how your pieces have a glow that makes them feel like they could exist either in reality or in a mystical land.
Thank you so much😊
Meee toooo!!!
the commentary in your videos are my favourite, you have such a relaxing voice with a good sense of humour

Oh that's good to know thank you!!
I love the way you framed each painting with the little robin! you're braver than me adding tape on top though 😮
The snake commentary has me rolling and crying 😂 😭
😂 same! Along with the heavy sigh afterwards lol
Yes, and the robin!! ❤
THE MUSHROOM LOOKS SO GOOD!!!

Thank you for sharing your process, I'm really struggling with colours and how to go from dark to light and watching you do help me 🌷

it looks like the tree is sticking its leg out of a split in its dress 😂
😂 I came here to comment this too!! Reminds me of some celeb that did that…Angelina Jolie maybe?? lol either way it was cracking me up
the 2nd tree, looks like a human Lev is coming out from behind it.... Spo00oooky
What kind of tape do you use? I've only been able to find small rolls of washie tape
