like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
We ordered 4! Three are gifts (two for our kids) and one for the living room. We have three HomePods now and with the new intercom feature I’m looking forward to adding more to other rooms! I’m also glooming forward to having a few more to play my music on all of the rooms and access Siri and HomeKit from other rooms so I’ve been wanting more for a few months. I’m very, very excited about these!
I’m now here I subscribed. I’m very interested in the HomeKit stuff. Thank you
now that it has been 2 years and now that other colors of the Mini are available do you have an updated video we can see about the Mini?
the $99 price is so affordable. I'm glad you emphasized that in this video. keep up the great work 👏🏽
I just picked one up for $40 CDN on a whim from a pawn shop. I'm pretty impressed with this little thing.
Since I got it so damn cheap I'm going to pop this one in the bathroom for podcasts in the shower.....it's nice having it as a backup Homekit Hub
Hi I’m really enjoying this channel I’ve just bought a 2nd home and have set this up in HomeKit but wondered if there is a way of moving my HomePod in the App without removing it and then reinstalling it?
I wish they would make a Full sized HomePod with all the same tech included.. the quality of the HomePod speaker is exceptional! Although I will definitely be purchasing a few minis for the house.
I suspect we will see a revised HomePod with U1 and thread next year
@@HomeKitAuthority I hope so, I know the full sized HomePods are a little more expensive but I find myself using it daily in my kitchen for timers, music, Siri questions, calendar and weather notifications, phone calls and all sorts of other things. Since I purchased the new LG nanocell TV this year, I have used Siri to turn it on and off as it’s HomeKit accessible!
I'm buying 6 of them. Truth be told in many scenarios smaller speakers in an array offer better performance. The reason why we tend to go towards bigger drivers is lower bass output and total output. If Apple added High Pass/Low Pass crossover support to Airplay 2 making it easy for vendors to create Airplay Subwoofers (6.5" high excursion dual opposed) you could deliver an almost out of sight distributed audio system that's almost full range
When will thread products be available?? Should I wait or get philips Hue?
Eventually I want a mini in every room but that will take some time at 100 a pop. The echo dot and the cheap price point made it easy to put one in every room and makes it easy to control that room with just that echo without having to say the whole room name. With the HomePod getting cheaper and the mini I will be able to get the ultimate smart home
Yes, it’s going to be a push for most to have enough around the home. I will be able to push to have 3 in the key rooms in addition to my other 2 HomePods. Although they will be used a stereo pair when Dolby Atmos lands
Can you connect 1 homepod and 1 homepod mini with apple tv? How would that be done?
I have always ask me if it is possible to have a HomePod mini or other connected device without having a connected home just for listening music and having a vocal assistant at home
Subscribed boss 👍🏻
Can the HomePod mini alone work with smart locks assigned to HomeKit? Or do you also need to purchase the larger HomePod to access smartlock features? Also, do you need to activate Siri to use with smart locks? Ie. can someone walk up to my home with the window open and say ‘Siri unlock the door’? Also would prefer not to enable Siri with privacy issue concerns if that’s the case.
Interesting video...thanks. New subscriber....thinking of getting a video door bell. What one/s work well with Home Kit?
This is a good option - ua-cam.com/video/ZPA1FgW95rg/v-deo.html
We, somewhat reluctantly, went in on the Sonos system when Apple was late to the game. Admittedly the Sonos One sound is great for my non-audiophile ears. I would rather use Siri, albeit not where it needs to be yet, over Amazon’s Alexa - primarily for perceived better privacy. I’ll be wondering what to do with some Sonos One’s if the HomePod mini sound quality is on par with them.
I would still have it and use Airplay
I also went with the SonosOne as Apple was late bringing the HomePod. I have purchased the HomePod Mini just waiting for the arrival
I have Sonos Ones, HomePod and HomePod Minis. I don’t hear a huge difference in audio quality between Sonos and HomePod... maybe just a little better on HomePod, but nothing huge. HomePod Mini isn’t in the same league. They’re good for the size, but not in the same league as HomePod or Sonos One. YMMV.
Hello.
Thank you for your video.
I would like to start my smart home and I m searching for the best solution for :
1. Controlling Philips hue lights
2. Playing music with a high quality sound
3. Pairing the speakers to my TV in order to have immersive sound (Dolby atmos)
So, it seems that 2 classic homepods can do the job BUT I have a buy an Apple TV 4K. Is that right ?
What would you recommend ?
Thanks again
Yes, you need to buy a Apple TV 4K to achieve what you need.
@@HomeKitAuthority thank you. Too bad because it means another buying, another box, another remote control, another cables...
I do wonder if some hubs perform better than others... so much is being asked, especially for effectively a Apple Watch SOC for camera encryption, facial recognition, object recognition for up to five 1080p streams alone! Home hub mini is gonna be tempting though! Look forward to having a listen to one / stereo pair!
Anyone use to have the original HomePod Hi-Fi? Lol
I think we maybe surprised with the performance of the mini. Use it has the s5 chip, but it would have had some refinement to make it work with the new HomePod
Im interested in that security camera feature, but I will need to see which camera options work with it.
Thanks Muhammad
What is that square lamp (4:36) - and can it be controlled with the regular homebody or just the mini?
It’s the Eve flare and it does not need any of the homepods. - ua-cam.com/video/0H2U1mt4IXk/v-deo.html
Skip the blahblah, the video starts at 1:11
I have 2 HomePod Mini's and an AppleTV 4k and I can not control the Mini's when away from Home. I open the Home App and they say Paused, if I tap on one, it takes 5 to 10 minutes, if at all, to say playing. If I long press it says nothing is playing.
I can ad a seventh point and that is that Apple does not ad Google or any other API which is wide open on all devices that are sold that can connect to Google or other major companies. Google for example does not secure that API so if your savvy you can access private Wifi networks through Google. We had an IT Graduate explain all this as it was his thesis. ;)
I will be purchasing HomePod minis for my bedrooms. I have two regular HomePods now 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs
Nice!
Which color are you buying?
@@goji8430 depends on the room. But I am thinking space grey is the route for me
How does a HomePod mini sound? That’s ok I’ll wait, you don’t know do you, how about waiting until someone actually has one and you can see it and hear it before you say your going to buy something.
@@goji8430 space gray
Siri just needs to get smarter faster. It’s just too limited. Combined with a lack of support for Spotify and it takes the shine off :(
It’s annoying the fact I need to use Apple Music when I have Spotify. Amazon Alexa can change my channels and volume meanwhile Siri can’t cause it’s not an Apple TV but it’s a 2020 tv like what? Siri sucks tbh needs to get smarter very quickly.
I think in iOS 14.4 or .5 you can set Spotify as your default music service, so full Siri support should come with that
@@the420lounge3 is Spotify better than Apple Music?
Can the original HomePod do everything the Mini can do once updated with software? Or will Apple have to revise the hardware?
The original will not have thread or the U1 features as this is hardware dependent
What’s the best HomeKit security camera
I think aqara g2h is the best
I really want to dump my Echo, and get a few HomePod Mini’s. I just wish that Siri worked better (I only know from my phone, car, iMac, and iPad Pro) that Siri is a bit flakey. It sometimes doesn’t respond, and it seem limited in its vocabulary as I have experienced it. I hope Siri gets better.
Yes, voice assistants seem to dictate the sale of smart speakers. I am hoping Siri gets some improvements and with the latest updates it is getting better
Your right, Siri is the dumbest smart assistant, it’s favorite answer is, I can’t get the answer to that on HomePod or you have to unlock your iphone first, and I wouldn’t dump my Echo before anyone actually hears a HomePod mini, there are so many reviews on UA-cam telling you how great they are and not one person has personally seen or heard one, even in Apples demo you saw it but you didn’t hear it, hell the one they showed didn’t even have the cord attached to it.
Super excited about UWB, although I did just buy the Watch SE which doesn’t have the U1 chip.
This is the biggest thing for me!
Does the 6? Was thinking u1 in mbp could make watch unlocks better
@@GeorgeHafiz the 6 does have the U1 chip
@@myHomeKithome don't you think watch unlock could be much better if macbooks had it too? Sometimes my mbp just doesn't see my watch. And I'm sure the lack of auto locking is because confidence of presence via Bluetooth is too inconsistent
@@GeorgeHafiz That would absolutely be a great use of UWB. I really do think this tech is going to be a winner for Apple.
It has a big glitch as far as it not being able to hold a steady connection to LIFX lightbulbs. It will randomly says “ I did not hear back from your devices” I returned mine.
LiFx bulbs connect via Wi-Fi. They don’t connect directly to the HomePod. The issue is with the Wi-Fi connection or the bulbs
Great video! By the way, I am the one who dmed you on twitter.
Great stuff! I see the similar account names 😉
Could you have a HomePod mini and normal HomePod in the same room, would they work together?
No, you cannot stereo pair a HomePod mini and HomePod
You cannot stereo pair them but you can have them working in the same room, playing the same content, just not as a stereo pair
@@leighinibiza you can stereo pair them together. It was in the presentation and it’s mentioned about a third way down this page www.apple.com/uk/homepod-mini/
@@HomeKitAuthority Now you said 2 differed things, No you can't stereo pair them together, Yes you can stereo pair them together. which one is it :). We all know the mini 2 mini can stereo pair and the original 2 original can. But your answer confuses me.
Having said that, i'm not interested in stereo pairing HomePod original 2 Homepos mini, imho it does not makes any sense to do that :P
@@AngelusHD my original answer still stands. You cannot stereo pair a HomePod and HomePod mini together
Is it better to have an Apple TV as your hub or the HomePod mini?
Don’t think it makes a difference
@@HomeKitAuthority I had my Apple TV as the hub, but when I installed my HomePod mini it automatically took over that role, leaving the Apple TV as backup. I took that to mean that's the better setup.
Which color is the most popular?
White
Trying to ask a couple of questions on instagram, but no response. Hope to get your feedback!! All the best! Great channel :)
If it’s via DM then it might goto spam. You need to ask any questions publicly in comments
@@HomeKitAuthority Many thanks.
What smart wall switch should I buy in order to build a homekit house?
Buying the homepod mini + smart switches should do trick to start?
I know we have iPads, but I think We still need a HomePod video hub. Like the nest hub Max and the echo show.
Apple should make a “in between model” (smaller version of the large HomePod)
I don’t Apple would do that
I love where Apple is going, but I would love if they created a HomePod that did not have great sound, did not include any of the cool features that are not software, but controls the smart home and priced it at like $20 - $50 that would be soooo nice
There’s no way Apple would do this, unfortunately. They’re still regarded as a premium brand and even the £99 price point of the HomePod Mini is a low price, for Apple. Just wouldn’t be possible to offer a premium product at less than half of this price. It would be nice, though!
@@mrwriter86 Yea I really did think that would be a very rare thing. I totally agree with you.
Good video, this is the first one of yours I have come across... please clean the products before you take your B-roll.
Will make you videos feel that much more professional.
I was thinking the same: is it so dirty in his house?!
Go away troll! It’s some dust you tit
The tech specifications state that this is not a hub so you will still need a HomePod/appleTV/iPad
This is a HomeKit hub.
@@HomeKitAuthorityyup my bad, double checked. Thank fuck for that 😂
I can’t wait! What do you think Siri? “One moment please.”, “Still looking.” 🤦🏻♂️
I’ll buy both a mini and echo 4th Gen. I don’t listen to music in my house. Just need a reliable device to control my hue lights and kasa lights.
Nice!
Will any of these functions work without an internet connection? Asking for a friend 🤣
No
I just wish Apple would sell either HomePod in Denmark… Siri already works fine with iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in Danish.
Just get it on amazon.I know the shipping is pretty expensive but that is your only option.
@@user-fo3to8rn2x I can also get it from Danish shops, and at a wery nice price. Unfortunately the setup on iPhone or iPad doesn't have the opportunity to select Danish language…
Does the HomePod mini make suggestions or try to "sell" like Alexa does? That is so annoying.
No, that’s one of the benefits of using Apple stuff
omg that dusty homepod XD
Lol, yes you will need to go with the white mini, it won’t show the dust so much.
i just hope apple continues to support the mini forever instead of having to update new equipment like their computers, phones etc
I think it will have a 5 year shelve life like more tech hardware these days
I just can’t justify HomeKit because of the apple markups for no reason
Gosh! The repeated "Subscribe" animation is annoying.
I'm not sure if I'll get immune to this, if I subscribe, or not. Currently, I'm just annoyed by it and won't.
Ok
I agree. I see it every minute and it's too distracting while watching the video.
i have nothing but disappointed with homehub as a hub. frequent not response, jumping wifi networks, many devices not working. any time apple release something new is a mess.
I’m a huge fan of Apple products, but HomeKit sucks. Alexa works much better for smart home networking.
Sorry but the background music is just too much for me.
Home kit is the worst smart home system ever made. Apple should be embarrassed!
HomeKit is excellent, however, right now it can’t be used to its potential. Not many devices are HomeKit compatible, because Apple demands such a cost for the licence that most manufacturers simply don’t bother. Especially with Amazon and Google devices being more popular, they’re likely to sell more by just supporting their services.
If Apple wants to make their HomeKit service more widespread, they simply need to make it more affordable for manufacturers to include it. Reduce their price, more devices support it, more customers buy them. Keep the price the same, the service remains limited and shite, basically. I’d love to move away from Amazon and Google for privacy reasons, but when a smart plug costs £40 instead of £8.50, it’s pretty restrictive, especially as I have six smart plugs. No way would I pay £240 to have HomeKit in those!
Trust me I’ve used many many more that are v v v much worse so you’re just wrong there big time ..
I can never understand how reviewers make videos telling people to buy something, they themselves have never heard or seen up close, Apple never played any music through the IPod mini so they don’t have a clue what it sounds like, all they ever say is Apple says, well Apple say a lot of things, but then they are supposed to, they are trying to sell you a product, what’s this reviewers excuse?
Did you watch the video. Never told anyone to buy and didn’t even discuss the sound. The points are about it being a HomeKit hub!
Pure gadget audio ( definitively not Hi-Fi sound , it's a poor low sound )
Its shit ! i bought the HomePod its rubbish as a HOMEKIT not even 3rd party like echo, i have echo shows all over house "with 10" screens"access to all third party smart life devices, hive UK and many more. and this is coming from a proper apple fan boy. UTTER WANK AS A SMART DEVICE CONTROLLER. i mean I'm smart so i made a digital bridge running from mac pro and configured to see every device, but took over an hour of coding and not every one has an IQ of 140+
