Apple today announced the HomePod mini, which features a new circular design, S5 chip, U1 Ultra wideband and new intercom feature. The New HomePod is available in white or black priced at $99/£99.
The HomePod mini stands at just 3.3 inches with a mesh woven fabric cover. It includes a touch surface on the top with playback controls and will glow when Siri is activated. While it does not have the same hardware inside as the original HomePod. The HomePod mini still features a full-range dynamic driver and two passive radiators for advanced bass response. It also packs an acoustic waveguide to provide clear, 360-degree audio playback.

@OtakuCollector 876 what you need is to place two routers on either end of the house and then connect both of them with a power line adapter and Ethernet cables. That’s what I’ve done and everything have full bars across the entire house.

Sorry to comment on a older video, but I’m just trying to add airplay to my bathroom, i have a tv in there and Apple TV so my question is do you recon i could put a mini in there on a high shelf near the extractor fan? Or have to make the plunge and get the lithe audio bathroom speaker with airplay? I was hoping you had a video but i cant find anything on it 🤩
Hi Jon, thanks for all your video's been watching for a few days now. Not new to apple - but new to HomeKit. i've just got a few plugs home and will look into bulbs, cam and other things soon. We have 5 mini HomePods coming home in Jan all for different rooms throughout the house. - and i'm just wondering should each one be set up with the owner's apple id and iPhone, or should they all go under 1 apple ID? or the kitchen, living room etc.. i was going to use my account - the primary account for the HomeKit account - but for the bedrooms does each person use their own iPhone to set up their own HomePod? and will it all still work in the one 'home' (if you know what i mean?)
I've created the 'home' in HomeKit, and added each family member - so would that then allow people to play music on all the homepod mini's and access various info throughout the house? thanks for all the really informative videos. All the best, Fraser, Orkney Scotland.

Does the HomePod mini work even if you don’t have anything from the home kit? I mean does it work if you only have an iPhone?
The homepod mini looks so good. I have multiple amazon devices around my house and I love them. I much prefer alexa over the current siri, which is why I opted for echos in the first place. The new homepod mini however makes me slightly tempted to make the switch, or at least just add it to my smart home so that I can make calls from my phone etc. Im not sure...
the security alone is reason to switch away from Alexa to HomePod
You can already listen to iHeartRadio and Tune in radio on the HomePod. It’s available through an API and does not require the apps.

Hi, I have my 2 Original HomePods as audio output for my Apple TV and now that I bought an HomePod mini in my Kitchen, the sound goes out in this one as well against my will. I checked in System configuration of Apple TV and in HomeKit and nowhere I see the HomePod mini is attached with my 2 original HomePods. Do you know how I can fix this? Thank you!

The only thing I don’t wanna lose with my Alexa dot is the clock function on the outside of the stereo. I love being able to look & see the time without having to verbally ask for it.

Unable to see the HomePod mini on Home app on my Mac. It works as a Airplay device. Is this normal?
Looking forward to picking up some of these to use in the area's it's difficult to justify the full size homepod. Bedroom, kitchen etc. Hopefully it'll drive a lot more development time for Siri & HomeKit as well.

Afmittedly( I don’t really like the design much, but it’s definitely a leap forward with the U1 and further confirms Apple’s commitment to the platform well into the future.

I like them a lot but I'm not in love with them. I have 6 throughout my home and when you tell Sri to play something everywhere it sounds terrific! Unfortunately Apple has not allowed the Homepod Mini to work with the iMac as a stereo pair. This is a giant flaw in my opinion! Also it has some bugs caused by Siri, Homekit and wifi that can be irritating on occasion.
Hopefully some of these issue will be resolved with future updates, but I have found that updates can cause their on problems sometimes. Apple care is very helpful, but sometimes I feel I know as much about Homekit as the advisors.
Hi , great channel loving the advice on you tube. I have had a problem where I used to run my internet through apple time machine and sky broadband and my WiFi switched through both , I had a problem when I wanted to connect a robot vac so I basically turned off the apple time capsule as WiFi and just used the sky, at some point through this I lost the ability to play music through both my home pod minis at the same time in different rooms. I have tried to restart and reconnect !? Am I missing something !? Can you suggest anything that may help me !? Cheers
You need to reset the HomePod and connect them via the new Wi-Fi. But you may have the option in the home app if you go into the HomePod mini settings

No Spotify makes sense from a commercial perspective but pretty much rules me out for this. Happy to try Apple Music again but when I used it last a couple of years ago it just wasn’t good enough.
From an ex Spotify user, Apple Music has come on leaps and bounds lately. It is amazing and I want for nothing.
I think Spotify will come (not sure, but I think it says something about it on the website about third party apps and such)
Does this thing have to be plugged into the wall? some of the pictures you can see a cord coming out of it but most of the pictures and video make this thing look like it's cordless

Nice job, John. I have an audio question. If you are watching UA-cam on an iPad, can and how would you get sound to come out of the Mini(s)? I can’t get sound to come out of my Google Bluetooth speakers when playing UA-cam on my iPad. Thanks!

Yes, the device needs to be airplay enabled. But you can get speakers from Sonos and others that support it.

Thread is huge news honestly. UWB mated to Augmented Reality/VR is going to be huge. Your phone will show you were missing devices are with amazing accuracy. You should be able to point your device at some HomeKit products and have a pop up to control them become available. Audio or video that follows you around the home. I know I’ve made plans to put these things in just about every room. It’s going to payoff if you’re a member of the Apple Ecosytem.

@@HomeKitAuthority which I think we all understand when taken from the context of future marketing impact. Given the improved UI of managing Airplay devices in iOS 14.2 I think when the next generation of CHoIP is ready we'll see substantial update to the HomeKit UI. I think it'll become more dynamic, smartly hiding what you don't need to see and bubbling up what you do need immediate access to. They already made a move to this is the current version of Home apps.
I hope it doesn’t suffer from random, unrequested music plays like the original does.
Mine is switched off most of the time because of that.

Two HomePod Minis added to stereo HomePods as back speakers in a room. Giving a (sudo) 5.1 Home Cinema profile. Then, play audio through same. This, like 5.1 audio will give a sudo Quadrophonic sound. Been doing this for years using a 5.1 Home Cinema box. Already have the two HomePods, will be ordering 2 Minis on Nov 6.

I don’t have any HomePod, but is it true i can buy 2 or 4 HomePod mini to simulate a home theater?? Will it be compatible with 4k movies with dolby atmos?? Siri is only activated when you summon it. It’s not listening to you. But you can switch off Siri completely via settings

I'm disappointed. i expected an upgrade from the existing homepod. it is still not available in belgium. I was hoping for that upgrade for my netatmo doorbell.

This new mini only has one physical speaker, which is firing downwards. So I don't see mid range sounds going to be any good on this new speaker.
Apple did mention Spotify support coming later during WWDC this year, but given the lawsuits with Spotify supporting Epic Games I’m not surprised they omitted any mention of Spotify at the event.

Apple said Spotify and other music services was coming to the original HomePod last year with the iOS 13 update. Look at how well that went, it didn't come to the HomePod.
Now we just need a HomePad / HomePad Mini smart display.

A “HomePad” would be like an iPad without a battery.

I found Apple using some deceptive tricks during the unveiling of this product. I saw the HomePod Mini sitting on an end table in the middle of the room with no cord. How’s that possible? It made me think that it was going to be a truly wireless devices with a battery but that’s not the case. They removed the cord from their own promotional material. I was looking forward to a portable HomePod. Something to control Siri from the back porch or outside by the pool maybe even take on vacation. Apple gave us that impression in parts of their video but that’s not exactly a true representation of the product.😞
I agree, but it can be used with a USB-C battery pack. So that is an option. But it still will have to be within WiFi range.

£99/$99 is not a low price point, when you consider the more capable competition.
It’s also not an echo dot either.
99€ people must understand it's near 100€ not 90€. I hate those psychological prices such as 9,99, 29,99 etc. Don't compare with an echo dot. Echo dot is an assistant that secondarily can be used to listen music, HomePod is a speaker you an use as an assistant. The point is what is important for you. Assistant or speaker. I personally would like to listen some kind of music such as classical, piano, orchestra, jazz etc. before buying one. So yes for me the music aspect is more important than this assistant one.

Apple has so missed the Smart Home market. They should have had this out 3 years ago. Siri is pretty useless and Homekit hardly works with any third party kit. A nice little speaker but Amazon in particular and, Google to a certain extent have got the Smart Market sewn up. Come on Apple where is the vision these days, stop resting on your laurels.

@@HomeKitAuthority you may have, but you have to admit the vast majority of smart devices only offer Alexa and google home devices. I can’t use Tp link smart plugs, connect Panasonic tv, LG TVs, Xbox etc and all the other stuff. Alexa and Google home are the default options in 95% of cases. Apple is nowhere. I use apple devices myself, iPhone, iPad but their share of the smart home market is minuscule. With all their technical expertise they should be doing better. They have really missed the boat and have a mountain to climb to catch up..Hopefully this little speaker is a step in the right direction.
